No, no one is dying, just growing up, way too fast. It seems like just yesterday we were planning our first family trip and now we are trying to get used to the idea this may be our last one all together. For me the memories from these trips are some of the best I have of the kid’s, I guess that is why we keep going back.
We started saving for our first Disney trip after DH and I did a trip alone when he was attending a conference that was in 1997. At that time we had DS 5, DD 2 and I was pregnant with our second DS. We saved until that second DS was 3; most of the savings came from not eating out anymore, that decision 12 years ago to stop eating out makes this trip with free dining so much more exciting, we still do not eat out very much at all.
Our first WDW trip was just days after September 11, 2001. It was a hard decision to make weather we should still go but after waiting so long we decided to go ahead, we had a fantastic time, we stayed in a FW cabin for almost 3 weeks then did a 4 day cruise. There were absolutely no crowds; sometimes it was kind of spooky it was so quiet. At that time the kids were 3, 6, and 9. My parents came for a few days on this trip.

Our next trip was 7 months after the second DD was born, so now the kids were DS10, DD 7, DS 5 and the baby. This trip was a 7 day cruise then two weeks in DW. This trip was during the SARS outbreak and wouldn’t you know it we had a stop over in Toronto, which at the time was the hot spot for SARS. Before we were able to get on the ship we were examined and questioned by a Disney employed nurse, luckily we all passed, I did coach the kids before hand knowing this may happen (I may have threatened them too, especially DS 5 who once thought it was funny to tell a customs guard that he had never seen his father before when asked “who is that man?”). On this trip we were joined for the land part of the trip by DD7’s best friend and her parents (also our very good friends).

Our next trip was the two middle kids and I for a week in DW then we were joined by DS 12, DD 2 and DH for the Magic’s first trip through the Panama Canal, a wonderful 2 week trip and a few days in DL to end it all. We were once again joined by DD’s best friend and her family. This trip there was no national disaster, we were starting to think our vacations were linked to these things, you start to get a complex.

Our last trip was this past Oct. where I took the 3 younger kids, now DD13, DS 10 and DD 6, I also took my parents who are no longer travelling too far on their own, they are both in good health but my dad is getting very forgetful and that scares DM. We had the best time, a few days in WDW and then back to back 7 day cruises. The perfect trip for all the generations. DH and DS 16 joined us for the last cruise and they did US/IOA for a few days after the cruise, DS16 also brought a friend along (he was so much fun!!!).
The reason my oldest DS has not joined us on the whole trips is because he is the most responsible and focused boy I know even at 12 he would not miss more school than he had to, and it was not our idea!! I would never have stayed home so I wouldn’t miss school, and he is already a year ahead, I think he was switched at birth!!

I guess this is a good time to introduce the family,

I am DM forty something and enjoy anything as long as everyone is happy; Disney is the place where everyone is happy so that is what I like. I have run a family daycare for the past 16 years; I can’t see myself ever doing anything else.
DH also forty something, loves Disney, never went as a kid so he is making up for it now. He is a computer programmer, basically writes customer service programs for small and medium sized companies (Amazon type thing)
DS 17 (just had his birthday last week) great kid, honour roll since kindergarten, very kind and studious, second degree black belt in Tae kwon Do, has taught in our city recreation programs for 3 years every day after school.

DD13 Her 14th birthday is September 6, the last full day of our trip, we planned to be there for this day as last year on her birthday her grandmother died, in her sleep, no warning, at 63. DD is fun loving, roll with the punches, generous, and the perfect go between for DS11 and DD6. Everyone loves her.
DS 11 goof ball to the nth degree!! Way too much energy, quick witted and always “on” Loves an audience, but also very sensitive and easily hurt. Drives me crazy and at the same time I think he is hilarious.
DD6 UGH!!! Spoiled and cutesy, real princess, will not wear anything but dresses and they have to be pretty. Full of fun and eager to go, loves big sister and biggest brother but she and DS11 are a bad combo!! (Hopefully we will do a good job of keeping them apart).

So now onto this trip, one day in February DS 16 comes down to breakfast and says “ I haven’t been to WDW for a long time, I would really like to go”. You have never seen anyone jump onto Travelocity as fast as I did. This kid never asks for anything and he really has not been to WDW since he was 10, plus he is graduating from high school so what better time to go (well anytime is a perfect time I know but what a good excuse). Now he gets embarrassed when I say we are going because he asked.
This will be (or will it?) our first family ONLY trip to WDW. We are only doing WDW, no cruise, no US/IOA, not even a rental car to venture out of the world, just staying put.
I booked a Family suite at All Star Music as soon as I could, we have also stayed at the Ft. Wilderness Cabins which we loved, and they were great because we did a lot of cooking that trip and we also had a car. Truth be told, the busses at the Fort take a lot of time.
101-0134_STO-1.jpg

We then stayed off site at Tropical Palms, they were really nice too, nice and quiet and again good for cooking, but you need a car.
20081019_1203.jpg

DH and I have stayed at the Carribean Beach Resort too, but too many kids, but it is a beautifus resort.
20070209_278.jpg

We stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter and Riverside, we loved the French Quarter but we are too big of a family now for either.
20050506_0018.jpg

On our last trip we stayed at the Family Suites and really liked everything about them, some of our favorite times were just hanging around the resort, the pool, the dive in movies, all the games by the pool and the food court.

So once I had bookd I just waited for an announcement about free dining. Of course I heard what the days of FD would be here on the DIS before the announcement was made so I was ready, 4:00 am, to get that added to the reservation, easy as Pie. We arrive on August 22 and fly home on Sept. 7. We had to make two separate reservations because you cannot stay more than 14 days on one reservation, which makes no sense to me at all. We will also only have the free dining for the first 14 days but I figure we will be so full from all that food we won’t need to eat those last couple of days.
I was able to get us flights out of Seattle for $297 return, Travelocity is amazing, we watched it for weeks until we saw the price reach a new low and we jumped. Flying out of Vancouver is more than double that, plus we have some very good friends that live just outside Seattle who we can stay with the night before our flight.
Now the fun begins the waiting and the planning. Sometimes I think the planning is more fun than the trip so this time I decided to give everyone a job and share the fun. I am in charge of which day and which park, DH is in charge of Ridemax (we have used this many times in DL and think it is just the best thing, not only because it saves us loads of time waiting in lines but mostly because it keeps us moving and we don’t have to make any decisions on the go, trying to get 6 people to all decide on one thing when they are hot, tired and hungry is just asking for trouble.) DD 13 and DS 11 are in charge of which rides on which days and giving that info to the Ridemax man to program in. DS 17 in the keeper of the info, from airline reservations to pre registering to having all our ADR’s with us at all times, I think his I-touch will be coming along with us. DD 6 and I are making an autograph book together. I am also in charge of ADR’s but am open to input on where everyone would like to eat, but only because it is free!!
So when we started to plan we did talk to our friends who always seem to come with us to see if they wanted to join us but their cat is due to have kittens just before we leave (they hope, what a rigmarole to get a cat pregnant, who ever heard of someone studding out their cat, and people pay for this service, go figure)
Then I talked to my parents but they are having company from back east so they can’t come. We even talked to DH father but he wanted to be home for the anniversary of his wife’s death so he was out too. We started getting excited that it would just be our family, see, we had to check the regular cast of characters before we got too excited, we enjoy travelling with other people but being alone was what we were really going for seeings how it may be the last time DS 17 will come with us.
Then it happened. I mentioned the trip to DS11’s friend’s mother. DS and his friend have been in class together since kindergarten and they really get along very well, even though she is a girl. She was over one night in March and when her mum came to pick her up she asked about our plans for the summer and I didn’t see it coming, when I told her about our trip she started asking questions and soon I knew, I had made it sound too good. We had once met up with them in Disneyland but just for a morning and a ride or two so I thought they were solo travelers. I guess they are not. At about 9:30 that night I got the call, “When are you going, where are you staying, who should I call, when should I book????” Oh well, at least they are people we really like. They have never done WDW before so it has been fun filling them in on all the ins and outs. They are also staying at All Star Movies in a family suite, staying the same dates as us, just leaving a couple days before us for home. They have DS 12 DD11 and DS 9. We decided to share a few meals and a few rides after them and swap out the 11 year olds a couple of days but other than that we will be on our own. Having older kids should give DH and I some alone time too, but we may be happy to all be together all the time too.

Your Family is beautiful!!!! You are right our kids grow up too fast. My DD17 just graduated from highschool and we will be at WDW 8/15-8/30 to celebrate!!!! Then she is off to college 9/1!!! (insert huge sigh:sad2:)

Nurse Mommy 4, that is so funny that your kids are almost the same age as mine and yours go girl, boy, girl, boy, and mine go boy, girl, boy, girl. My DS17 is also starting University Sept 8. He is so excited. We will be there at the same time too. Have a great trip and thanks for posting!!

We are getting busy planning but the Disney people were not cooperating with getting the park hours out fast enough for my liking. We are going to be in WDW for 16 days but we only have 10 day park hoppers plus so some decisions have to made about which days will be park days and which will not. It would be very nice to have the freedom of Annual Passes but the difference in price is quite a bit seeing we did not have another trip planned. So once the park hours came out I did my best to plan park days and non-park days. Then the fun part, food!! Looking at all the restaurants and menus was so fun but because DH and DS17 have allergies it narrowed down our choices, but that is ok because it actually made it easier.

Our Days will look something like this

Aug. 21 Drive to Seattle
Aug. 22 Fly to Orlando, Magical Express to ASMU, swim and eat
Aug. 23 Swim, resort hop
Aug. 24 EMH Animal Kingdom, nap at resort, Hollywood Studios for EMH

So I just had to wait for the 90 day mark to make our reservations for dining but the stress over where and when to dine almost took all the fun out of it. If you read enough reviews you start to think that it will be torture to eat anywhere and you may end up sick, with bugs in your food, with servers that yell at you, or your reservations will all be lost and you may not eat at all!! Then there is the stress over actually making the reservations on the 90 day, will I get anything I want? Will I be eating dinner at 3:30? Will I get any character meals? Will I be on hold for a whole day only to be cut off and lose even the meager offerings I was able to get?
Well my 90 day was May 24th (I think)on the day before I did a few practice calls to be sure I knew all the right buttons to push and words to say so I could get through fast. Before I get flamed I never stayed on the line long enough to tie up a CM, just long enough to hear the prompts. I got up at 3:45 am on my 90 day mark and started dialing then hitting redial, at 4:00 I got right through to a CM and I was back in bed (but too excited to sleep) at 4:23. Here is what I got:

Aug.23 O’hana 6:50 (this is a non park day and are hoping to see the wishes at the beach)
Aug. 24 Sci-Fi Dine in 8:05 pm (the only one that is a bad time)
Aug. 25 Biergarten 6:30 (with our friends from home)
Aug. 26 Coral Reef 1:35
Aug. 27 Chef Mickey’s 5:40
Aug. 28 Tuskerhouse 9:35
Aug. 29 Hoop De Do 7:15 (with our friends from home)
Aug. 31 Le Cellier 5:05
Sept. 1 Cinderella’s Royal Table 8:30 (just the girls from both families)

Then on the next few days I was able to get (with only one incident where I had to talk to a manager. They were not going to let me reserve my 90+10 meals for my 11th through 14th days each consecutive day after my 90+10, that doesn’t make sense but I think you know what I mean)

Sept. 1 Maya Grill 6:00
Sept. 2 O’hana 10:00
Sept. 3 Saana 5:10 (with our friends)
Sept. 5 Whispering Canyon

Other than the time of the Sci-Fi I am pretty happy with what we were able to get, and it was no trouble at all.
With the ADR’s made I felt such a relief, but it was very anti-climatic. There were no long waits or big disappointments. And now there is not much else to do except wait.
So I decided to make a planning journal that will double as my trip journal too. And there was always that unsuspecting friend who will travel along with us. How much useless info could I pass onto her? I decided I would test the waters and invite her over.

I've really enjoyed the introduction to your trip report. You have a great looking family! The ADRs sound wonderful, but don't envy you having to get up so early to make them. Yikes!

There is such a fine line between Disney Planning and Crazy Disney Obsession. I have to say that I walk that line and sometimes I slip.;)When my DFriend called and suggested that they may be vacationing the same time and place as us, and that place was WDW, and they had never been before, I had to hold myself back.:ssst: The first thing I did was come here and ask what would be an appropriate amount of information to give in this situation. The responses ranged from “mind your own business” to “suggest a good guide book to them and direct them to the DIS” to “answer questions only when asked” to “tell them you are a Disney Nut and let the craziness begin”. Well that last suggestion sounded like the most fun so I went with that.:thumbsup2 I sent her an email and invited her over with promise of tea and treats, she didn’t see it coming. Turns out she was so into it, she had even started researching for herself and she ate up all I could dish out. We had to quit early so we could pick up the kids from school so we scheduled another visit. This time I was prepared, we covered ADR’s, Ft. Wilderness, transportation, packing, walking (I like to warn Disneyland veterans about the added miles in the World), water parks, Disney Quest, Hoop De Do, MNSSHP, Magical Express, photo pass ( we got in on a share before they were banned), Cirque, and weather. I even made her a beginner’s binder. She hasn’t been back. Just kidding we have plans to get together to make a shopping list for Garden Grocer, just to have some drinks and breakfast stuff in the rooms, we will share an order and split it when it comes. School is over now so we don’t see each other as much but I think we covered everything and she did make some of her ADR’s to coincide with ours so I guess I haven’t totally scared her off, yeah, I would have hated to ruin my dear son’s friendship with my obsession.

We had some decisions to make. As I said in the very first post DD6 is SPOILED, not by her father and me but by DD13 and DS 17. We have decided that a trip to Disney World is not the place to try and fix this. So we have decided to bring along a stroller for her. She has not ridden in a stroller since she was 3 and broke her leg, even then it was for 2 days, she ended up wearing the bottom right off that cast she walked on it so much.
20060504_039.jpg

But I know the first sign of her being tired we will hear about it and one of the spoilers will carry her, then they will get tired and whiney, so we are bringing the stroller!!
Now to make this seem even more ridiculous we have bumped the park ticket of that same young child too feeble to carry her whole weight for a day up to an adult’s ticket so she does not have to eat off the kids menu if she doesn’t want to. Now who is spoiling her?? We actually do not think she would be upset eating off the kids menu but there is not much variety and after the first week she may just stop eating. The first time we took her to Disney land she lived off the fruit and yogurt and bananas. She was sick of the fried and tasteless foods. It also gives us more options for sharing food; she and I could easily share most meals, leaving us with room to use those snack credits. The cost of bumping up her 10 day hopper plus to an adult’s was under $40, and there was no lying involved, we called and asked if this was possible and they said it was fine and that they did it all the time.
We also had to decide about the MNSSHP. We had been to this party at both WDW and DL.
20081002_1202.jpg

20061013_746.jpg

We really enjoy being at the park at night and when we were going there were not a lot of late nights so that plus the fact that we only had a 10 day park hopper we decided to go for it. We ordered our tickets and they were delivered in less than a week. It was our first Disney mail, the tickets were so cute we all got so excited!!

Great updates!!!

My original dates included the beginning of Sept ( I wanted to take the kids to MNSSHP). We went to Pirate and princess party in 2007 and we REALLY enjoyed it. Then we found out DD17's first day of class is 09/02 so I moved the trip back a week. Oh well, next year I want to try for a December trip and then we can try MVMCP!!!

The next thing to do was to order Ridemax. Once you subscribe to Ridemax you have it for 90 days, unless you buy a year subscription. We decided to wait and get it 90 days from the end of our trip so we could use it while we were away too. Shortly after we got it the dates for all of August were up so we were good to go, but first the DD13 Becky, and DS11 Mitchell had to poll everyone in the family and find out what their favorite not to be missed rides are. Those will be the rides we do over and over. Once that was done they had to plug the rides into the days we would be at the parks. That all was done in a night. Now we wait for DH to start working on the plan with RM. I guess he still has some time.
We also had to make the decision on what DD13 Becky who would be celebrating her birthday in WDW wanted from the list of “Free on your birthday” gifts from Disney. We already had park hoppers so that was out, so it was between the fastpasses and the money. We are hoping to be able to do 3 or maybe even all 4 parks on her birthday, hitting all the favorite rides so the fastpasses for one park would probably not be all that useful because we would only use the E-ticket fastpass and not the others. So she decided that she would like the gift card. I just have to find out if it can be used after her actual birthday as we will probably be too busy on the 6th to use it. We will be at DTD the next day so hopefully we can use it then, she is pretty excited about it, (almost as excited as she was last night when she won the Most Sportsman like award for her swim team).
Now we have to decide weather we will wear costumes to MNSSHP. I am voting no as we are trying to pack very light this trip seeing how it will cost $15 per suitcase per leg of the trip. I am not against laundry on holidays, especially if we have a few pool days. I am hoping we can each get packed into a carry on and a back pack and just have one suitcase to check in for all the things we can’t carry on, (shampoo, toothpaste etc.) Last year we had matching T-shirts that we may use again, most of the kids are too old to dress up and it will be so hot I think heavy costumes may be out. We also do not like to be the centre of attention, except DS Mitchell,

What to do now, the planning is so fun but the waiting is so hard!! But wait, Dfriend sent me an email wanting to know when we could get together to make our shopping list, yeah, something else to plan. :cool1:The only problem is I have no idea what we will need. We are not huge eaters but we like to eat, often. Not having done the dining plan before with the whole family it will be hard to judge what to get. I know we will get a case or two of water cause it is going to be hotttttt!!! We will also get lots of Diet Coke to fill my addiction, and we don’t want to waste snack credits on those things. But as for breakfast food and snacks I don’t know what to do. :confused3I don’t want to waste money on food just to have to throw it out but I also do not want to pay Disney prices for snacks if we run out of credits. I also have to figure in those last couple of days when we are not on the plan at all. Then there is the issue of fridge space to consider too. Planning everything we are going to eat for 2 weeks is out of the question, I can’t even plan a weeks worth of dinners at home. Ugh, did I say planning was fun?!?!?
Having Dfriend over to plan with will be fun and should help. And to make it more fun I am going to suggest that before we make our shopping list we make a trip out to our one last remaining Disney Store with some of the younger kids and get them each a shirt for the trip. If we are luck maybe they will pick matching ones, which makes such good pictures!! I do spend a fair amount of time on the Disboutique and would love to make some of the outfits I see there but unfortunately the days of all 4 of my kids agreeing to wear matching clothes have long passes. I doubt I could even get them in the same colour. I do make dd6 some dresses though, I better do that while I can, I see that ship sailing away soon too, then I will just have to wait for grandkids.

So I met up with my Dfriend and we took the 4 youngest kids with us. We went to Metrotown which is the only mall left in the Vancouver with a Disney Store. Each kid got a Disney t-shirt (2 for $16), and the mall also had an animatronic Dinosaur display that kept the kids busy for a long time. It almost felt like a little taste of Disney, :cloud9:then we ended up at the food court for dinner, again a Disney-like experience. The kids sat at one table and we sat nearby at another. They had so much fun; it was fun just to watch them. If they have this much fun in a mall I can’t wait to see them in 46 days!!!:cool1:

We came back to our place and they jumped on the trampoline and played cards in the tent trailer while Dfriend and I looked at the Garden Grocer site and decided on our shopping list for our combined order. We will mostly get drinks, a few snacks and a bit of breakfast food for the dine and dash mornings trying to get out the door quick.
I must admit we spent a good part of our evening talking about the kid’s friends and their parents, most entertaining but not very productive.

I may have had a few fears about our trip being so closely linked to our friend’s but after spending more and more time together I think it is going to be very fun. We will not be planning to be together too much but when we do meet up for a meal I can see us staying together for the rest of the day, laughing and trying to keep up with the kids.:grouphug:

There are some new things at WDW since the last time we were there and some not so new things but things we didn’t have time for on our last very quick trip. Kim Possible is new and looks very appealing to all of us. DH, myself and the Rebecca (DD13) are big fans of The Amazing Race and the Kim Possible game might be as close as we ever get to doing something like it. I have done some research and have discovered you can sign up as early as 9 even though the missions don’t start till 11 at the earliest. To sing up early you have to go to either Innovention building. Each mission lasts 20-45 minutes and the last mission begins at 8pm.
Another thing that is new to us is the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique. DD6 is the perfect candidate for such pampering and I really think we should do it; the only problem is that I would like to do it before our breakfast at Cinderella’s castle but our breakfast is scheduled for 8:30, too early for a reservation at BBB. The other options are to do it our first day at MK, a day that is not a park day and have it done at DTD, or maybe we should have it done at DTD on the day of our MNSSH party then she would be all dressed up for trick or treating, hmmmm I think that sounds like the best plan, now to see if they have any openings.

Loving your PTR and can't wait for your actually trip report since you will be there just before us!
You have a beautiful family and wow 16 days, go girl go:thumbsup2

I will try and get some of the trip report up before you go, the weather will probably cool down a bit by the time you get there too, I am a little anxious about that but I guess we will adjust. Our daughters are the same age, it is such a perfect age to bring them, with does she love princesses? I will check back on your pre trippy soon.

We made the decision to do the BBB on the park free morning we have before MNSSHP. I got the middle package (there are 3, one is makeup, hair and a sash, the next also has nail polish, and the third is the zinger with full costume, but comes with an expected price too, we were actually quite surprised at how reasonable the first two are priced) and we got a 10:30 appointment. We went for the one with nail polish because DD is trying to stop biting her nails,:thumbsup2 anyone out there with a good remedy for this please chime in. If the nail biting keeps going well we will stay with #2 but we may have to down grade to #1 because there is virtually no nail to paint when they are all chewed up. The boys can go to Disney Quest and Becky and I will stay with Nicole-Renee. We can also try out Wolf Gang Puck Express for lunch while we are there. We will do a bit of shopping then too. Then we will go back to the resort for a nap, no swimming for Nicole and she may have to sleep sitting up not to mess the hair. I will also have to make another trip to the Disney Store because Nicole needs to bring her own brush and comb to BBB and no Wal-Mart set is going to do. I just need to find out which of the 7 princess costumes we have acquired she wants to wear and hopefully I can get a set to match.
Boy, the kids who have parents on these boards sure are lucky, I know my parents did a lot for us but I don't think they ever spent this ammount of time on holiday planning. I wonder if in years to come they will be labeled by their therapists with the "DIS syndrome". NO time to save for therapy now, there is a trip to save for!!:rotfl:

You hit the nail on the head right there! That is sooooo try!

Your DD will love BBB, we have never done it, maybe one day! Regarding the nail biting, my DD did it for awhile and then just stopped one day so hopefully the same will happen for your DD! You will defiantely have to post pics after of your DD all dolled up!

Oh, I hope she stops, but I am not holding my breath:sad2: I will be posting lots of pictures, don't you worry, I love taking and sharing pictures!

Photopass is something new to us too. We did have some pictures taken a few years ago but we didn’t end up purchasing them and we also didn’t know how it all worked before we went. I have done some looking into it this time and we even go in on a Photopass share. I am a little bit worried I will not get all the edits and borders done in the short time we have but I will cross that bridge when I get to it. I think I am one of the last travelers on our share so I shouldn’t have to wait too long to get my CD.
I wasn’t aware that there are some special “Magic Shots” set up at some Photopass stations, incase anyone reading was also unaware here is a list of them:

The Photopass people will help to pose you to make the pictures work, I have seen some of these and they are very cute!
