If there were no discounts at hotels/motels?

If there were no discounts at any hotels or motels and you had to pay full price, what hotel or motel would you stay at? Why? How would you get to the park if it isn't within walking distance? Also, consider these questions as if you are on a somewhat tight budget? Would you delay a trip to come up with more money to stay at a better place? Where would you absolutely not stay?

I am trying to make up my mind at what place to stay, while staying on a budget. I would like to know what other people would pick for their own vacation.

Answer 1, some, all, or no questions. Thank you in advance.

uhh if hotels and motels had no discounts not even a AP discount. i would probably never ever stay near the DLR ever!

oh, well if your on a tight budget, try candy can inn, anahiem plaza inn, and or the hojo

Well I book most of my stuff through discounted web sites (travelocity, getaroom, etc)
and I am always on a budget!
I always try to stay on Harbor, between Ball Rd & Katella. That way I can walk.
Also, many hotels offer AAA rates if you check their website directly. (If you have AAA :))
I have stayed at a Holiday Inn which was farther away, and we used the ART shuttles ($4 a day).

As far as where I would not stay....well I really haven't come across any motel/hotel near Disneyland that completely disgusted me. Sure some are nicer looking than others, but when all you're looking for is a room to sleep in at night and get ready in the morning than who really cares? As long as it's clean!:thumbsup2

These are not what I call budget hotels except maybe during low season. I'm planning a trip last week of March which is part of spring break season. Hojo is $125/night. Hotels across Harbor are even higher.

Motel 6 on Disneyland Way is $60-$80 on holiday weekends but $50 at other times.

When really on a super tight budget then I often stay a few miles away in Fullerton or Stanton. I've gotten Holiday Inns there for as little as $50. Motels are even cheaper.

If traveling without kids (2 adults) I use Priceline and have stayed at the Hilton, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Red Lion and other 3 or 4 star hotels for around $60.

Bargains can also be had using Hotwire but you won't know the exact hotel you get, only the amenities and star level.

Anaheim Plaza has the best location to price ratio... About a 9 minute walk and rack rate is under $100 pn peak....

I would stay a little further away in Katella and save more money for a 15 minute walk...

Have you tried the Anaheim plaza inn? i have read that many users on here have been getting a good rate.. i think it was $60 a night, and they are right across the street on harbor near the gardenwalk.

With the new Toy Story lot, you can legitimately look at hotels further down on Harbor and just walk to the shuttles. It's opened up some real possibilities for the budget minded. Though, my personal opinion is alot of those further down are truely "budget" hotels.
When we haven't been able to get a good deal at HoJo's we've stayed at Anaheim Plaza. Once when it was last minute we stayed at one of the hotels near Knotts for a great deal, it included breakfast, too.

Toy Story Lot? I have not been to Disneyland in a bit over a year. When construction started on Carsland the old Timon lot was closed down. Where is the new Toy Story lot?

ok do you know where Roy's is down harbor? ok the toy story parking lot is over there. in fact right across the street from Roy's. you park there, and take a blue bus to the park, then ride the blue bus back. :) it's convenient.

I'd first try the Park Vue Inn, because of the perks of staying there. Then Ramada Maingate because it has been all updated in the last couple years. Candy Cane Inn because is appears that the owners really care for thier motel. If further away the Annabelle, it a ok walk but a nice place, which I've had CMs recommend.

We are staying at the GCV this summer and I feel I am paying more than full price. We do extra things to be able to afford where we stay, if my wife does not want to stay at a different place, we won't go. We will save the money to do what we want, which is our current approach to our vacations.
I truely hope most people do a budget for their trips, which may be big or small, but at least know where their money is going so there are no disappointments.
If tight I would probably stay at PVI or Hojo's just depends on my needs at the time.

If there were no discounts available, and it was a choice of "go & stay in a very basic hotel or not go at all", I'd stay at either the Anaheim Plaza Hotel or the Alpine Inn. (Both are older motels but have been clean & comfortable, albeit "no frills", when I've stayed there.)

There are 2 places nearby I'd never stay: Castle Inn and Zaby's. Castle Inn, IMO, used to a a decent place to stay, but my last stay there a few years ago was so bad that there is NO WAY I would ever stay there again (and I'm certainly no "hotel snob"...it was just BAD.) The other place, Zaby's, I would never in a million years stay at as some friends of mine stayed there a couple of years ago & there was mold in the bathroom and graffitti on the wall. Yes, on the room wall, not on the outside. The place was a total roach motel & looked like not only had it not been redecorated since 1975, it probably hadn't been cleaned since it was built.

Yep...we have really enjoyed the Extended Stay America at Clementine. It is literally across the street from the Toy Story Lot. In fact, the buses drive right past the ESA driveway....we joked with the bus driver if they'd pick up hitchhikers if we stood there instead of walking across the street. He smiled but said no. ;)

It has a kitchen with a full size refrigerator, 2 burner stovetop and a sink, plus pots, pans, dishes, etc. so you can save a bit more by making your own breakfast or dinner.

Obviously the price depends on when you go, but we've paid as low as $49 a night and as high as $60 (weekend after Thanksgiving, but it went down to the $50's for the week after).

Comfy beds, clean, quiet....and no chasing after discounts!
