If SSR opens before "official" date-any specials?

I know there's a big wishful thinking here. If Saratoga Springs Resort opens before their official date of 5/17, might there be any discounted cash rates offered for stays? We're planning to check into OKW on 5/16, but need a hotel for the night of 5/15. Just thinking how great it would be to stay there to try it out. However, DH just wants to stay someplace inexpensive, so my only hope is for a big discount to stay at SSR. Anyone with past history? I think I heard VWL opened before they were "officially" scheduled, not sure, what happened there? We weren't members yet.

Not likely. They always "open" the resort prior to the official opening date and have CM's give it a test drive to break in the staff.

To my knowledge, Disney has not had to offer discounts to get guests to try a new resort. If it opens early AND they know far enough in advance, they will likely just offer it for cash ressies. Any discounts will be whatever they are offering for all WDW resorts for that time period.

I'll be surprised if that happens for SSR.

I keep hearing two different dates for the opening of SSR, May 1, 2004 and May 17, 2004. Anyone guess which is closer to the truth? I know that in the next few months we will have a much better idea but our April/May trip has been planned for 2 years and the Spa is supposed to be a huge part of our trip. We are praying for May1 !!!!

My sources suggest they are ahead of schedule, which bodes well for the May 1, 2004 opening. They should be announcing the "official" opening date soon.

I'll second that...where is this 5/17 date coming from?!?!

AFAIK, DVC is still stating that 5/1/04 is the official opening. I believe that Doc also said that construction is running a bit ahead of schedule right now.

Anyone care to add credence to this 5/17 rumor?

We just completed an add on at SSR and we were told that the opening date is May 17th, 2004.

BTW, when VWL opened earlier, I could not use points or any other discounts at that resort.

The only saving grace was that since we were the first occupying that particular 2 bedroom unit, we had a lot of problems in the villa. Wilderness Lodge gave us 25% off of what we paid.
