If POP and CBR were same price, which would you choose?

Okay, this seems like a strange question. We have booked POP for 14 nights, however, things have changed (I don't really want to get into that) and we could upgrade to CBR for virtually a few dollars (well more, but because we would be there for 14 nights, the money is not the issue, as it will not be split evenly i.e. some will not be paying any money if we change from POP to CBR).

I am going to get the rest of my party to read this, which is why I will say that I have always trusted Trip Advisor and feel that, for example, the pictures taken by guests are more accurate. However, POP has a better rating (ranked 29th and CBR is ranked 60th) and some are worried about that.

My feelings were that people complained more about CBR because it was double the money, but not double the experience (for lack of a better word). Does POP get a higher rating because it is good value and CBR (for the price most people pay) is not worth it (in their eyes)? I hope that makes sense.

(Incase anyone is wondering, it will be four adults- 24, 25, 27, 52).

So what I am asking is that if POP and CBR were the same price, which would you choose?

TIA, Lisa. xXx

CBR hands down. The moderates are a completely different feel than the values. There are more amenities and better pools. I would even think twice about it.

CBR all the way!!! My daughters, my mother, and I are staying there for the fifth time in July. We have only stayed at moderates, but we love the size of CBR rooms (340 sq ft), the refrigerator, the coffee maker, and the two double sinks with storage. We love CBR's beautiful tropical themeing, white sandy beaches with comfortable hammocks, and friendly ducks. We like the main pool and the quiet pools in each section. We like the variety of the food court and the bus service has always been good. I would not hesitate to switch if money is not an issue. Check out Safetymom's FAQ on CBR. She has pictures and a ton of information about our favorite resort.

Next Trip - July 11 thru July 18 - CBR :yay:

While I have never stayed at CBR, I have stayed at several Moderates and stayed at POP last year. For me personally, Moderates are better hands down. The rooms are not that much bigger (but, CBR does have the biggest Moderate rooms); just the theming and overall feel of the resorts are so much nicer and worth it. Also, minor as it seems, I love having double sinks in the bathroom for getting ready in the morning. Our POP room was very clean, but it still was no more special than a clean Motel 6 room. :hippie:

Good luck on your decision. :goodvibes

I love the idea of the extra amenities- mostly the beach and extra pools; my mother likes the idea of the beach and the themeing (compared to the concrete). We just have to convince two more that the bad reviews were only because for what people paid, they expected too much. I thought I'd do this thread and show them it. They know how much I have learned since being on the DIS and I am hoping that if they won't take my word for it, then they will take it from people who have all the answers! Thanks for your reply.

My vote would be for CBR for the reasons already listed

Keep in mind that even though it has a sandy beach you cannot swim in the lake

CBR even though of all the moderates I think it is the yuckiest. A moderate over a value wins even if it is CBR. Go for it.

this is hard for me - Love Pop, but I didn't like CBR at all.

loved POR!!! and CSR is definitely worth the upgrade.

Pop is fun.

CBR should be fun - maybe because I am pushing a wheelchair and this place was NOT designed for wheelchairs. Where Pop is.

now CBR definitely has more stuff - biking, marina, slide, restuarant, etc.

but more stuff to me doesn't make me like.

the first trip it was the long walk and I mean long walk to the food court. This last time it was probably the sand along the sidewalk - wheelchairs don't like sand.

this hotel is also easy to get lost in - too many building exactly alike.

if you decide to go with this hotel - be prepared to walk!!!

Pop doesn't really have that much walking. It is definitely a better design.

they have a courtyard setup to allow each room to have more privacy and yet something just felt strange. I just don't know. Felt I was being watched?

Same here, including the wheelchair part. :thumbsup2 I've visited CBR before but I wasn't impressed at all. It seems too spread out. The check in area is in a totally different spot then the rooms are in. The food court can be a very long distance from your room. The hills there are killers for wheelchairs but this probably shouldn't affect your decision. The buildings are starting to show their age.

Personally I'd choose Pop over CBR. But I'd easily choose CSR, POR or POFQ over Pop. I like Pop and don't like CBR so it's an easy choice for me. However I do like all of the other moderates so that makes them better then Pop in my viewpoint.

While I have not done POP, I have done the All Stars and CBR.

CBR wins hands down.

It's a much quieter resort with a great themed pool as well as many quiet pools. If fact, it's the only resort where I actually used the pool.

I like the option of having both a food court and a sit down restaurant, CBR has that POP does not.

I loved the short walk from Aruba to Ole Port Royale for morning coffee thru the island ond over the river. (not the morning coffee though)

POP seems much too crowded for me. Why do I feel that way even though I never stayed there you ask?

I drive there several times a day and my bus is almost always full. While CBR has it's moments, on average, it's not as busy as POP.

I like Pop, its my favorite value, but CBR is much, much better. The resort has a much more immersive feel and the pool is one of my favorites on property. I love to walk along the walkways at night you really feel like you've been transported to a whole new world. Pop is nice, but it has a much more homogenzied feel to it, you can never quite shake that "I'm at a value hotel" feeling. It is also much more crowded and less of a personalized experience. I like that CBR is spread out, because it has a more intimate feel, and you do get the feeling that you've escaped the crowds for at least a little while. I also think the dining is superior at CBR and the island with the birds is awesome. The buildings are a little older, and one thing I noticed is that the wallpaper border did not match the draperies or the bedding, but that in my opinion is a minor detail. The rooms are much larger at CBR and have held up well, and if you're going with a group of adults, you will appreciate the extra space. Those Pop rooms are SMALL! You'll definately be a lot closer after spending a few days crammed in there! If you're getting CBR for basically a Pop price, definately go for CBR.

I, too would say CBR all the way!!! We stayed in 2005 and absolutely loved it! We just returned from our second trip in May and stayed at POFQ and were bored at this resort and found ourselves wishing we were at CBR the whole time! Never stayed at POP or any values but I'd say for your party having 4 adults you will definitely have a better experience at CBR with the theming and larger rooms and so on.
Good luck with your decision and have fun!!!!!

Easily at CBR. It has bigger rooms than any other moderate, nearly the same size as AKL and WL I believe. That's a nice bonus.

We always stay deluxe but I would CBR over POP. It just looks really ralaxing and the rooms are bigger. Also I like the idea of a table service restaurant where I am staying. I don't think I could take the noise and chaotic environment of a value for longer than a quick weekend trip.

My vote would be for CBR. I loved my stay there. It is a nice resort with lots of the disney feel. I would stay at a mod before a value anytime.

Great thanks to everyone who replied!

I should have pointed out that it was two rooms at POP or two rooms at CBR, so space was never an issue (although I read that CBR rooms were bigger tham other mods, I didn't know by how much). I will show this to the rest of the family and I'll let you all know what we decide.

Thank you all so much!

Definitely CBR!! We've stayed at WL and AKL, and CBR STILL is our favorite! The mods are so completely different -- we love CBR!!

>>>>>Are you all staying in the same room>?If so, CBR all the way!!!The rooms are very comfortable and four adults if not a problem. I've done it twice at the CBR and twice at WL(The CBR rooms are bigger). The food situation will be better, the pools are better and the their is a large hot tub. The atmosphere at the CBR is very happy, that liting island music always put me in a good mood.
