If Polynesian DVC...How much would you pay?

I love the Poly and like some others have said it does have a lot of sentimental memories associated with it. I have pictures of my kids from many stays at the Poly from the age of babies to adults and have many precious memories of character meals, luaus, etc. A part of me will always love the Poly, it was one of the orginal resorts and we have always and probably always will visit or stay at this resort on a regular basis. If DVC villas were added to the Poly, I would definitly be interested in booking at the 7 month window, but I would not buy pts there. As much as I love the resort, all my DVC pts are at BWV and any future pts will also be for BWV--to me it is so much easier to keep all my pts at one resort.

We stayed at the Poly in December and were not overly thrilled with it. Although I do love the convenience of the monorail and all the restaurant opportunities, I think we would pass.

We might occasionally try to book at 7 months though.

We have always loved the Poly, stayed there many times before we bought DVC. However, we own at OKW, and considering the units and their spaciousness, we now prefer OKW and most likely will not stay at the Poly. We do go there to visit on almost all of our vacations, for sentinemtal reasons, but just can't talk ourselves into a hotel room vs DVC.

The Poly holds many memories for me, too, but I wouldn't buy in there, I would stay there on an AP rate only. I own at BWV, and I like it over there, and have enough points there now, at 600. I want to add on to OKW--we are empty-nesters, and enjoy the solitude there--but none of the other resorts holds much appeal, at least, not enough to buy in at $95 or more per point. We stayed at Poly for the first time in 1978 at $65 per night!;)

With the popularity of the Polynesian, i doubt there would be much availability at the 7th month window
While it is interesting to speculate on the future of DVC, I think it is hilarious to start considering a non-existent resort a sell-out success when SSR is still in the early stages of sales and Eagle Pines sitting on the drafting boards. I sincerely doubt that anyone could successfully put forward the argument that the Poly is any more popular than any of the other Disney property hotels. Each hotel, including the Value Resorts, have their own following who consider their favourite hotel to be the best place to stay.

I'm with some of the others. I wouldn't pay anything to own at the Poly. Maybe it's because we lived in Hawaii, and the Poly just doesn't "do" anything for me. I don't see dh and I buying any points from DVC at the current pricing levels, unless they open VAKL... then we'd have to raid ds's college fund to buy more points. :p

Hopefully....no one @ D will ever get that greedy or ever get that idea !!

The Poly has such a wonderful, peaceful, romantic island charm.

Every year since 71, I have visited, and, or, stayed here.
Though..remembering...in 71 @ $42. per nite (Tonga-Hawaii) longhouse somehow was more palatable than $400+ now!!

Can't even picture ....5 story DVC, other side of monorail,,,UGH!

:(

It would be a true loss of "Disney Magic" to consider the thought. ::MickeyMo

I like the rumor about them knocking down the North Garden Wing at the CR and building a DVC there. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

I am sure if a DVC were ever to be added to the Poly, it would encompass the already existing theme of the resort and would be done very tastefully. I am sure the building(s) would be similiar in design and theming to the existing longhouses.
However, I remember reading about 10 yrs ago that Disney wanted to build another resort in the MK area but there is a problem with the land and the % of it that is fit for building. Something to do with the foundations for the buildings and the land not being suitable, etc.
So I doubt there will ever be a DVC at the Poly but I would definitely try it out, if they ever did build it!

But I can try.::yes::
I can't find the link (for which I apologize in advance) but I know that I've heard many times that the Polynesian has always had the highest "returning guest" rate of all of the WDW resorts. I consider that a reasonable measure of its popularity.

Of course, YMMV.

Now that you mention it...I remember reading this same tidbit of WDW trivia, somewhere over the years of my Disney obsession! LOL!! I do know they have (or used to have, as of a couple of years ago) the highest % of CMs with the longest longevity working at the same resort (Poly).

I think The Poly has the best theming in all of Disney.
I can't afford additional points at $90+ or the annual dues to support them, but if the per night points/room were reasonable, I'd use the 7 month window.

We loved the Poly in our only visit there, which was in 2003, staying on an incentive we got when we purchased BCV. As it was our first ever stay there, you can't chalk it up to nostalgia. It's a beautiful resort, has arguably the best nightly view each night, is on the monorail - what's not to love?

Resort size is as much a factor in availability as the popularity of the resort. Yes, if they built a DVC component at the Poly with only 100 rooms, it would be very difficult to book. But what's the point? People are gobbling up SSR points (seemingly) as quickly as they did VWL and BCV. I'm not as convinced as I once was that DVC's best course of action is to slap 150-200 DVC rooms on each current Deluxe resort.

If they were to build at the Poly (or GF or CR), there would be an element of people who would buy there just because it's the one resort DVC is selling at the time they choose to buy.

There would also always be self-proclaimed Poly lovers who would choose to trade out to other resorts. You can't tell me that people who buy at the Poly would stay there exclusively over the next 50 years. And, as MelissathePooh implied, the point charts for the resort would probably stand as a reason why we would have little interest in trading into the resort at 7 months.

I'm going to show my age a bit with this statement, but I really don't see what the attraction of the Poly is. I guess I always chalked it up as being largely nostaligia (as Shan referred to), but it holds no nostalgic value for me.

If a point came where the Poly was the only resort that DVC was selling when we decided to add-on, I'd either waitlist for another resort or, more likely, go resale.

I love the Poly and I would buy there in a second. I figured that someone like yourself would be down on the Poly.

Hey, it's my fan!!!

Nice to see that you're insulting all of the other DISers "like [myself]" who are "down on the Poly." I'd hate to think I was being singled-out.

Gee, and just when I thought the whole point of DVC (and the nearly two dozen resorts that Disney has built at WDW) was variety...

I have never stayed at Poly, but have visited the resort a few times in '99 when my SIL got married on the grounds there....

IMHO, the resort was very beautiful and very charming, but I can't see my DW and I buying any more points onsite at WDW.. (Especially at the new going rate...)

We own more than enough points between on and offsite to stay at WDW for a week or two during our favorite seasons... Buying anything else up and beyond that will just be added expense...

If there were any other resorts like VB or HHI, I'd be there in a heartbeat... I have serious doubts that DVD will build anything else offsite though because of the cost and length of time it would take to sell... (Plus they have already started using Marriot as a "partner" for DL California and DL Paris with Newport Coast and Village d'Ile-de-France.)

Very interesting to know. I have always said if DVC were ever to be bought out or partnered up with another timeshare co., my prediction would be with Marriot.

Well..

I don't know if there's every been a declared "partnership", but DVD has used Marriot twice already for timeshare resorts near DL California and DL Paris...

DVD actually owned land near Newport Coast, and announced plans for a new DL DVC resort, but scrubbed the project and sold off the land to Marriot... See Werner Weiss's writeup at http://www.yesterland.com/ncv.html

When the chance came to build a DL Paris DVC resort, DVD againt opted out, and Marriot built up Village d'Ile-de-France within walking distance...

Both opportunities, IMHO, would have added tremendous value to the program. European DVC'ers would have had a resort that they didn't have to cross the Atlantic to get to, and West Coaster DVC'ers wouldn't have to cross the country to get to WDW everytime they wanted to use their points...

I know DVD is very leary of expanding in areas outside of the WDW "sphere of influence" due to the fact that the resort would take time to sell out and land doesn't come as cheap, but what's wrong with building near the other existing theme parks?

Being from Michigan, I'd love to be able to use points to go to California or France... I know I can use World Passport, but in my experience, the trades don't always come as easy as they would if the resort was managed by DVC... Plus with DVC, we could get flexibility to book in other increments than one week at a time...

Time to get off the stump now.. :teeth:

If they offered a DVC Resort on the monorail, I would pay whatever it cost. You can't beat the transportation flexibility.I would also like to see them go ahead with the Golf Course resort that was rumored to be built near the Bonnet Creek courses.

The Poly is my favorite, and while I can't say I'd pay $95 for any of the current DVC resorts, I can see paying $100 or more per point for Polynesian Villas points.

I'd probably be aggravated at how many points per night the Poly would cost, but I know in the end, I'd pay it and forget about the cost while sipping Lapu Lapus at the Volcano Pool.

I know there is no room land-wise for villas at the poly. Maybe they could just make studios out of one longhouse to satisfy all the Poly Lovers?
