This night we are trying a different spot for Wishes.
Normally we watch it from Main Street, tonight we are on the first bridge
to Tomorrowland.
It seemed like a good spot, wasn't sure about this one tree though.
The whole reason for trying a different spot is because of Extra Magic
Hours. We don't have to hitail it out to the bus stop for a change.
I love Wishes.
Lately I always get all misty eyed.
And curse my kids.
How much more sentimental can you get than that?
Yeah, I curse them because they aren't here with us.
The music starts, a few fireworks go off and Jiminy does his thing.
Then, the second show starts.
The one I didn't order.
The next skyrocket was followed by a girl behind me with;
AAAAAAAHHHH!
I literally jumped , she was that loud.
Two rockets later,,,,Again
AAAAAHHHHH!
Only this time, that wasn't enough,
Not to be left out, her girlfriend had to do the "echo" scream.
Only a little quieter.
It was as if they were totally surprised that somebody would shoot off
fireworks at a fireworks display.
Only it was so fake. A clear case of teenagers showing they were too
cool to enjoy mickey mouse fireworks.
I looked behind and saw a group of maybe 3 girls and 2 guys.
I know I sound nit-picky here, but it just kept going on and on,
after every 2 skyrockets.
The blood curdling scream followed by the echo.
I see Diane turn around, annoyed.
Then the whole family on my left.
And the people in front of me.
You started to wince with every firework knowing what was coming.
The couple to my right both turned around half way and at the same time
and did a stereo, " Hussshhh."
I wanted to kiss them.
Glancing back when they did that, I saw the screamer give them a dirty
look.
And now she didn't skip a rocket in between screams.
And gave it all she had.
We tried to back up some to get a bit away, but then that tree I was
wondering about got in the way.
Ok, it just bugs me when someone wanting the spotlight on them, ruins
it for all those around them.
I have to admit, that's the first time I ever saw somebody hush someone
at a fireworks display.
Yes, we still enjoyed the show, and it really felt strange no running for
the exit at the end.
Instead we walked over to Space Mountain.
They had people stopped outside, I think separating the day folks from the
emh folks.
And as they let us in, the family in front of us got stopped.
No wrist bands.
"We are going to get them soon as we get off. Honest, here's our room
card."
Nope, no dice. I really felt bad for them because that line was filling up
quick.
Well, I did the ride, she opted out this time, and holy smokes, what a
difference for me.
Like I said, it's not daylight out, so my eyes have kinda adjusted, even
with the fireworks.
I didn't know there were stars and nebula's and comets animated on
the ceiling. It really was a new thing for me.
After that we headed into Fantasyland, and I couldn't believe how crowded
it was.
We got in line for Peter Pan without seeing the wait time.
And once again, I forgot about that hidden wait area on the end around the
bend.
It was just over a half hour to get on. And I thought we'd have the parks
to ourselves.
How could I have been such a fool?
No problem getting into Philharmagic though, and I really think they are
missing a great chance to make money by not having an apple pie stand
right outside the ride exit. I can't believe how good that smells during
the show.
Over to Haunted Mansion, and not much line here. I think we just went
in the wrong direction after Wishes ended.
As we're in the stretching room,,,,,,
"Are these walls actually stretching, or is it your imagination?"
"AAAAAAAAHHHHH!"
"aaaahhhhh"
NO!
Tell me it ain't so Joe.
When the door opens, I"m trying to find them, to let some distance
between us happen. But it's too dark, can't see.
We try to hang back and are one of the last in group to get in a doom buggy.
"We have 999 happy haunts in our mans
" AAAAAHHHH"
aaaahhhh
Can't believe it again, they're right behind us.
After the ride was over, we ran.
Now the crowd doesn't seem bad at all.
Did Big Thunder, even that was cool at night.
And then we did Splash Mountain.
Oh yes.
I still don't believe what I saw that night.
You wouldn't either.
Well, that's it for tonight, come back next install,,,,,,
ok, ok, I'm kidding.
The ride went mostly normal and again I'm enjoying it immensely
through what seems like my "surrogate" eyes.
Just before we start climbing the big hill for the final drop, I scrunch down
a bit to try to not get too wet.
Here there is nothing really to look at as you're going up except the boat
in front of you.
In the back seat of this boat is a rather large woman and a really small
little girl.
Almost half way up the hill, the woman stands up, grabs the little girl
by the arm, then tries to leap onto the emergency catwalk up the side
She barely makes it, and this little one is being flung around like a raggedy
ann doll.
I thought the kid was going to be crushed between the boat and the side
wall.
They just started walking down and immediately, the ride stopped and the lights came on.
I now have no doubts that there are either cameras or peepholes everywhere, with cast members monitoring things from beginning to end.
Before this deranged woman and the girl with the extra long arm even
made it to the bottom, two spots in the wall opened up and security grabbed
them, pushed them through the opening at it closed up.
It took about 3 seconds for that to happen.
It was like the Morlocks grabbing the Eloi in Time Machine.
I never found out what her problem was, but that kid wasn't so much
as whimpering throughout the ride. I think she was just as surprised as us.
You really had to be there to appreciate the madness.
At about 11, when started heading out. "Hey, wonder what Jungle Cruise
is like at night.
We tried it.
Once again. A totally different ride. It's not all lit up like you might think.
Everything you look at is highlighted by your captain's spotlight. We actually
had to wait a bit for our boat to fill up. And our captain was terrific.
We have actually avoided this ride cuz last time we tried it, we got an
intern I guess from Hong Kong who was practicing to do it overseas.
Nothing against her, but I could tell even she wasn't getting the jokes
she was telling , plus, you couldn't understand her.
Tonight, this guy was good.
We leave and go to the dock, a boat is waiting for us.
Yeah, right.
" Sorry, I already snapped the chain, have to wait for the next one."
" About 5 minutes."
yeah, right.
Twenty minutes later, HE pulled back up.
Now, I had read that the Wilderness Lodge is just gorgeous coming back
from Magic Kingdom at night, just glowing like it's on fire in the dark.
But he didn't take the across the lake route, rather the channel by the Con
tempory and then hugged the shore to the dock.
All you could see from the boat was a couple lights at the end of the dock.
Another myth shattered.
It was still a fun night.
If nothing else, it was interesting.
That's it for sunday, coming up, Magic Kingdom, part two and reminiscing
with myself
