If it were not for the DIS I would never have...

A post I made on another thread got me thinking.
I'd love to hear from other DISers who got to do something they would never have done if it were not for the DIS...no matter how ordinary, brilliant, obscure or just plain unbelievable.

I know that most people will have met many new friends thanks to the DIS (myself included...erm unless y'all disagree) and I'm sure most of us could list off enough things to have a top ten, but I'll kick things off with a couple -

If it were not for the DIS I would never have thought it was ok to be male, straight, mid thirties and a huge fan of Disney and it's plethora of pixie dusted characters. Yes I guess it's a little stereotypical but it wasn't until I started meeting fellow DISers that I realised there are other fellas out there that like this stuff as much as me (don't get me started on reactions I get at work - "You're going there again?"). WDW - can't think of any place I'd rather be right now...Epcot WS specifically :drinking1

I also of course owe having great fun at night on TSM and an amazing first time cruise experience (that has me wanting to cruise again) to the DIS :thumbsup2

I'm right there with you on a guy liking Disney. We are for sure not the majority demographic. :goodvibes

I would NEVER have been able to afford our birthday/anniversary 1 week trip earlier this year. It was our 10th anniversay and belated (very belated) honeymoon. I never would have made great memories with him that I will have forever. Tips on the podcast and forums helped me save so much money!
Now I am planning another week in March-this time with the kids and we are going on the PodCast cruise and getting to see the World at Christmas time. Never in a million years did I think even one trip could happen, much less three!

That's because you are all special ;) :rotfl:

I love all the little details the Dis has brought to my attention - I would never have gone to the reosrts we weren't staying at and taken the time to look around, taken the time in the parks to 'smell the roses'

I second the new friends :goodvibes I'm so glad I've met so many wonderful people :grouphug:

Totally! and no harm to detract from reality once in a while - not enough in my case :rotfl: WDW is the only place I have been on holiday where I truly do stop thinking about work. I think I might have to cuff myself to a railing in Epcot on our last day in Sept, cause I'm not going to want to leave!!!

If if were not for the DIS, I wouldn't be hopping on a plane in two days to somewhere I have never been before and staying with good friends who were strangers to me less than a year ago!!

I would also not be able to say, I now have friends that live all of the country and the world!!

:love::love::love:

rk. I think I might have to cuff myself to a railing in Epcot on our last day, cause I'm not going to want to leave!!!

I so totally agree.. :thumbsup2

Besides meeting friends, I would have never thought to go solo anywhere..now it is like my right!!! to meet others at WDW and have a great time..

I would have never gone to Jellyrolls without DIS friends or tried new foods or rides..

That's great!
Exactly the same for us and just last weekend.
Hope you have a great trip!

i would have never gone on a disney cruise (well not in the next few years anyhow). but i did with all you great folks in May! :thumbsup2

I never would have tried some of the restaurants I am trying (or have tried since listening).

and I would probably be rushing with the bulls to get a TSM fastpass on our Dec trip, but instead, thanks for the DIS, i'll get to ride TSM over and over with little or no wait. i mean, who can beat that? I would have never have gotten that opportunity.

I may never have tried Narcoossee's. It's now a must do every trip. Will be having my birthday (10/1) dinner there this coming trip.

...known what a Fish Extender was.

I found the DIS about a year before our 2008 cruise (The Magic's 10th Anniversary Cruise!!). I joined the meets thread for that cruise and met some great people, some of whom I still chat with occasionally (Hi Robin).

Oh my gosh...this might be a long list.......

If it weren't for the DIS, I never would have.....

1. Thought to use a town car service

2. Rented DVC points

3. Ate at the Yachtsman Steakhouse

4. When I cam here I was using dial-up, I got DSL specifically so I could listen to the DIS-Unplugged podcasts.

5. Kevin & Bob's report on the Backstage Magic Tour got me to book one.

6. Stayed at the Swan & Dolphin (courtesy of DU and the Prizematron)

7. Called in sick at work one time just so I go to Wednesday night chat.

8. Been so upset at the passing of someone I never met. :sad1:

9. Been so worried about someone I never met having eye surgery.

10. Been so excited about someone I never met going on a trip of lifetime to Australia.

11. Joined Facebook so I wouldn't miss important things like what happened with Teresa's wild dogs.

That's all I can think of for now!

Oh my...there are LOTS of things that I would never have done without the DIS!

1. Most importantly...I never would have met my BFF! (Hi Jen!)

2. I would never have 2 DIS-DH's in addition to my real-DH

3. I would never have boarded a flight by myself to head to WDW to spend the weekend with a bunch of complete strangers. Ever. But I am so glad that I did. Some of these folks are my dearest friends...

4. And I most certainly wouldn't be spending the next 2 days baking and decorating 100+ cupcakes for a DIS meet on Saturday...

I actually have to credit the RADP group for doing some of the things the DISers are posting, like meeting friends you've never met at WDW. ;) There's some overlap here, as I've seen various people I know post here, too.

But I have to give the DIS credit for the group of friends I met playing VMK (Virtual Magic Kingdom). I never would have thought I'd become friends with adults who played a "kids' game".

While VMK was going strong for its 3 year run, I was almost exclusively hanging out in the VMK forum (since changed to Disney Online Games).

Without the DIS boards --
I would never have known what a podcast was.

I would never have posted a message.

I would never have ventured onto Facebook let alone joined.

I would never have spoken my feeling about riding in a scooter in a Disney Park.

I would never have let my husband talk me into going on the Podcast Cruise.

I would never have met so many people who shared their joy of Michael and I becoming Grandparents. (And yes I will post a picture soon - once I learn how :) )

I would never been able to identify with such a diverse group of people who all have a little bit of pixie dust in them.

I would never of met two wonderful people, Becky and Gavin, who still touch my heart and I can't wait to share hugs with in two weeks when we all met again in DisneyWorld.

And I would have never so many people who think its great for me to enable my husband's Disney obsession (and now my own). I certainly have met enough who think it is all a bit odd.

Who ever knew so much could change because of a little place called the DIS boards.

Thank you to all of you.

If it were not for the DIS -

1. I would have never stopped and actually bought a Dole Whip. They always looked & sounded good, but all the talk made me stop and enjoy.

2. I would have never bought into DVC

3. I would not have had to buy a new monitor, because of the drink i spit all over it laughing so hard.

4. I would have never tried some of the new resaurants at WDW.

Keep it up, keep it happy and keep it humble!

I am new here and just recently started listening to the Pod Cast, but if it were not for the DIS my daughter would not be dining at CRT her first day ever in Disney because I would not have known when to get an ADR and I would have missed my opportunity! princess:

I never would have listened to a podcast (really had no idea what they were), so my MP3 wouldn't be near as well used. ;) I also had never posted on a discussion board until I joined the DIS. Let me tell you, it's saved me a bunch of time in my now completely on-line grade program! :surfweb:

And I never would have gone to a meet full of people I'd never really met...and actually enjoyed myself! And now, I'm going back to another one! :cool1:

If it weren't for the Dis:

I would never have know about the Barber Shop on Main Street and now have my DD haircut annually.

I would have never posted on boards

and wouldn't have a nice distraction from work on Wed and Thurs listening to the Pod Cast
