If it ain't nailed down its got to be free!!!

I saw this young girl in the isle at our grocery store feeding her baby some food out of a baby food jar. She hid the empty jar behind other ones. My first thought was oh my she is stealing. But when I saw how that baby wolfed it down I realized this was one time I should keep my mouth shut. :sad2:

It is so hard sometimes to make a judgement call when you see someone stealing. Even though stealing is wrong.

I have to say I am guilty of taking pens from Disney
You mean the ones in your hotel room? I don't think that qualifies as theft.

The rest of the stuff mentioned upthread, though, heck yeah! LOL

that's cool!!! :thumbsup2 People should be able to sample - if you have the intention to buy !!!!! (I guess I had just assumed it was no longer done, due to abuse) Would love to see the Brach's "honor" sysytem here again - I remeber, as a kid I thought it was a nice treat!!!!! :sunny:

yeah - just the pens in the room!!!!!

I work in a reasonably large IT department, and we have a tradition that you bring in treats to celebrate your birthday, a promotion, etc. The treats could vary from donuts, to bagels w/cream cheese, all the way up to pizza and other entrees.

One woman that I worked with (she's since been fired) used to have a "rule" that anything that was still around at 2:00 PM was fair game. So at 2:00 she'd go into the break room with a shopping bag and start loading it up. She was shameless!

We used to joke at around 1:30 that it was time to grab some food before xxx's kids got it all. Actually, she's been gone for a couple of years and we still make that joke!

i remember my mom many years ago upon returning from a vacation with the ladies complaining about how "hotels are out to get every cent they can"-her complaint was that the hotel she stayed in had lots of signs in the room that said "if you like our-whatever-pillows, robes..they are available for purchase at the gift shop"-i had to explain that the practice served as a disclaimer that the items were not "freebies" to take home (i was working at a very high end place at the time and could not believe what people tried to walk away with-pillows, robes, mattress pads, bed spreads).

my mom is teased alot in the family that she's never purchased a pen in her life-just walked away with them from whatever bsns. she had been to. when we cleaned her house out we were amazed at the hundreds of pens from bsnss. long past (she also NEVER threw away the condiments that came with 2 go food-but that was a throwback to my dad-he was a depression era survivor who well remembered when he was very fortunate to make a meal of catsup, hot water, salt and pepper-or as he called it "survivor's soup").

another poster talked about "grandma" and the champagne glasses-that brought back a flood of memories-growing up the bulk of our glassware was "casino glass"-mom (and again "the ladies) would make a run up to lake tahoe to gamble for the weekend and they always came back with their purses stuffed with the cocktail glasses they got. their attitude was "they gave me the drink for free so they expect me to take the glass as well"

oh - also, used to work for a non-profit and you would not believe what would just disappear from the supply room on a regular basis. It was suggested locking the room and having people request supplies - powers that be disagreed. I always felt it was one thing if a company wanted to spring for this - but a non-profit is wasting the donations from people who feel their money is going to the cause!!! Kinda sad!!!

I was grocery shopping last Sunday and saw a mom give her 3 daughters each an apple. Now I can see giving your child a snack if it is an item that is priced "per item" so you can still pay for it but not fruit that is weighed per lb.

I also oversee supplies at work. We started to lock up all TP and PT when the CEO saw an employee walking to her car with a roll.

At a holiday party the year before last, the CEO stopped an employee who was taking shrimp and putting it into a ziplock bag that the employee had somehow attached to the inside of his coat. A few minutes later the CEO stopped the same employee from taking other food. The employee's response was "But you only said stop taking shrimp".

My mom also does the thing with the pens. My brother has ongoing medical issues, and she takes him to the dr. or physical therapy at least 3x a week. She actually has been known to get excited about going to the dr. office so she can get a new pen. The woman must have a couple hundred pens with different Rx names on them! Now I have been known to use a pen at an office or a restaurant and accidentally put it into my purse when I'm done (it really is by accident, I swear!), but if I am in need of a new pen, I will step foot into a store and purchase one!

My grandmother was a queen of glasses. She never let that wedding stop her.. she kept on taking glasses.

She's been deceased for over 20 years now, so now we can laugh about it.

It was stealing and yes it was wrong. Her baby was hungry and needed to eat. I would have offered to pay for that jar and a few more, thus no stealing. I sure hope I would have thought of that at that exact time.

Years ago DH and I decided to have a New Year's Eve party at our condo that had *extremely high* vaulted ceilings. We decided to move all furniture out of the room and decorate the entire area like the inside of a Persian tent, even down to having pillows to lounge on and belly dancers entertaining. Our biggest problem was finding enough purple fabric (yes, it *had* to be purple :teeth: ) to make the "tent" and cover enough pillows.

My best friend at the time was a nurse at the local hospital. She said that would be *no problem*. She proceeded to bring a mountain of hospital sheets and pillow cases to my house and said to all we needed was purple dye that's used in the washer. We dyed all the sheets and pillow cases and she sewed them together into several massive pieces of cloth. With DH's help we draped the entire ceiling and parcially down the walls. Also had plenty of matching pillows for everyone to recline on. Now...I wonder where she got all those sheets and pillow cases from?????? ;)

Our principal took the entire staff out to dinner after the last day of school to celebrate the end of her first year with us. She let us know in advance that she would pay for everything except alcohol. Apparently she didn't know that she also needed to say that the dinner was only for staff because two teachers brought their husbands and expected their dinners to be free too. The one woman not only brought her husband but also brought her grown daughter. I would chalk it up to a misunderstanding except that both off these women bring their husbands to anything where they might get more free food. I've even seen the one teacher bring her daughter to the yearly insurance fair to help grab the free keychains, pens, post it notes and whatever else the insurance companies there are giving away to get your attention.

Does anyone else see a couple of Friends episodes in these stories?

First, the one where Ross and Rachel's grandmother dies and Ross knocks a box off the shelf in the closet and it's full of Sweet & Low.

Then there was the one where he stayed at some hotel and then loaded up on all the toiletries and other "free" stuff that he could get his hands on.

My parents were always good for taking a few extra packs of condiments wherever they went. You'll find a few in my house, but it's mostly just a few extra packets of soy sauce which game with my sushi take-out. I don't swipe or even request extra.

I have a friend who takes the pink packets of sugar from places. (Their names are on them.) It really lessened my thoughts on her.

Your friends names are Sweet and Low? I don't understand the name connection.

kind of off topic, but when did it become OK to try out lotions and sprays in stores. I am not talking about testers, I am talking about people who come over and spray all the AXE sprays and then go over and squirt the hand lotions and then move on to room sprays and spray those. I keep seeing more and more of this in stores every day.

I see that at Walmart... drives me crazy.

I think she meant the name of the restaurants on the packets

At Lauri's store (Hallmark) they have a problem with people constantly stealing the envelopes that go with the cards.

They'll set a seasonal display completely brand new - each card comes packed with an envelope. By the time the holiday is there, more than half of the rack is missing envelopes.

When I worked at Ulta I saw this all the time. People would just open up a lotion bottle and squirt it all over. (A carpet and lotion don't mix well.) Then they would leave that one there, and take the next one to purchase. Uh, was the one you JUST OPENED not good enough? Or they would open a brand new perfume when the full, working tester was right in front of it.

My great grandmother was the sugar stealer. Everywhere we went she would stock up on sugar. She never used any of it, she just took it anyway. She would also carry half her apartment with her in her purse, and everything was wrapped in toilet paper. I really miss her silly ways.
