Also why would my insider # save me money on a standard car but not a minivan?

A lot of car rental discounts/coupons are limited to compact through full size cars and don't apply to minivans, SUVs, convertibles, etc.

We have a minivan at home but don't one on vacation. They're usually at least double the cost of a full size.

No, you cannot do that. The card has to match the main renter. Sign your husband up for Insiders, make the reservation in his name and add you as a free additional driver.
The discount depends on when you are going and supply and demand. It does not show a discount for a rental in Aug. but does in Oct.

It let me edit the rental to his name and kept the discount.
