If I upgrade my ticket....

and I bought it discounted, how much would I get for it?

DH gets discounted tickets to Disney World, but they don't have the one we want. There's a great deal on a 7-day base, but if I were to upgrade to a park hopper at the gate, would they charge me the difference between what I paid and what I'm getting, or would they charge me the difference between a gate-bought base ticket and the hopper?

I think if you add the park hopper its a flat fee per ticket no matter what discount you get on the ticket. So whatever Disney is charging for the park hopper you would pay. Or at leat I think, I hope I have not confused you to much.

I'm not 100% sure but I think they only charge the difference between the days you have and the days you want (or adding in the hopper option). To go from a 7 day ticket to an 8 day ticket this past trip I took they only charged me $2.17 per person. I got my tickets through AAA and the lady that added the extra day, at Guest Services, said I got them at a discount, but still very cheap to upgrade. It is not the same situation as what you are doing, by adding the hopper but I think it will still be just the base charge for the hopper no matter what discounted rate you got your tickets at. Not sure I really helped any but that is what I just went through.

never thought of adding days...then I would get a discount on MORE of the ticket They have a park hopper at 5 days, so I could just upgrade the days

Yup if you have the 5 day park hopper and want to increase it, you only pay the difference per day. Heck I even upgraded to an AP when it was all said and done because I have one if not two more trips before next June.

If you go to a Disney ticket window and upgrade an unused discounted ticket, you will be charged not only for the added entitlements, but you'll also be charged the difference between the price of your discounted ticket and the price of the same full-price ticket bought through Disney.

In other words, let's say you got your ticket for $30 less than retail. If you don't use it, and try to upgrade it first, you'll pay the $48 for the park hopper option AND the $30 for the difference between the discounted price and the full price.

However, if you use the ticket at least one time before upgrading, you'll pay ONLY for the upgrade. You won't also have to pay to make up for the discount.

I know this sounds weird, but it will save you money!!!

I am in the same boat, but wondered if i could upgrade back at the guest desk at hotel that evening or when i leave the park? I would prefer to do this before arriving at the park the next morning? Would rather be there for RD then have to worry about upgrading tickets. Would love to know if this can be done at night or after entering the park first day

As long as it doesn't involve an Annual Pass or something like that, any and all ticket upgrades and additions can be done at your resort, at ANY park ticket booth (including the water parks), and at Guest Services at Downtown Disney.

So as long as you slid your ticket through an entrance turnstile at least once, the very millisecond after you do so you are eligible to upgrade the ticket and not pay a "penalty" for buying a discounted ticket from an authorized reseller.
