hi, my friend is going to WDW for the first time. she is staying off-site at a condo.
Does she need to get a magic band ? or is that only for those on-site?
if she needs one, how does she get it if she is not staying on disney property?

1 no
2 only onsite guest get the free MB
3 if she would like to buy one she can she can even do it before she gets to disney on line through the store they range from 12.99 ( for a plane color and up

if she dose get one she can use it to get in the parks and for her FP+ or she can use the plastic card that she will get

ok, so she does not need to get one, is that correct?

Last year we stayed off site and I bought one. It was much easier.
I had the photopass so I didn’t have to dig out my card everytime we got our photos taken; they just tapped the magic band. And with the FP+ it made it easier too. Even though you are staying off property I would still get it. Sooooo convenient.

I always stay offsite but I bought one when they first came out and I love it!!! I have a terrible awful habit of losing any paper ticket or card key Im given on vacations so a magic band is the best option for me.. it's so much more convenient

She doesn't need a MB. As stated, she can buy one. Benefits to having one is convenience to access the parks, FP+ rides, pay for things (assuming she links a credit card to her MB),etc. But, one feature the MB offers, that the park card will not, is the ability to capture her picture on certain rides. If that is important to her, she should get the MB.

When you stay off site, the only thing you use your magic band for is park entry, FP+ and photopass.

If you're going to use a card, make it easy. Don't put the card where you'll have to "dig" it out. With cards we do the same thing we used to do at WDW, which is the same at DLR and UO, and that involves the use of lanyards. Easy. And no awkward wrist contortions or toddler-like plastic bracelets.

It's personal preference. We always stay offsite and have Magic Bands. We'd never want to do without them again. OK, maybe that's a bit of an overstatement. Like bumbershoot said, if you use the card, have it somewhere that you don't have to "dig" it out. We don't like doing lanyards because they get in the way on rides...my kids take their pin lanyards off on some rides. We find the Magic Bands ultra convenient for park entry and FP+ use. But if your friend doesn't want to buy one, then no-harm-no-foul. One thing is for sure...she'll certainly have plenty of opportunities to buy one, they're pretty much everywhere.
