Scenario

Currently Have a room only reservation with tickets added on to pay off at check in. (just got shipping notice on bands)

We have decided to try and add a day at MK before our Cruise. The problem is our tickets do not activate until we check into Disney Hotel after our cruise.

In order to add a day and use it pre cruise we would have to cancel our tickets and buy a 7 day now to use and not link to our hotel? right? or can I link those reservations? If not what happens to those. What about the bands that are shipped are those just room keys then?

I don't think that you will have any issues with the FP+ if you buy tickets right now to use since you are within 30 days of arrival (assuming since you said they already shipped the MagicBands). From my understanding, the only thing they will look for is the number of days on the ticket after the 30 day mark since everyone can book FP+ at that point. I would just make sure that you don't cancel the other tickets until AFTER you linked the new ones to your account. Otherwise, the FP+ might get cancelled.

As far as the MagicBand, it will still work on your room and once you associate the tickets to your Disney account those will be available on the band as well. Think of the band as just telling Disney who you are, not necessary what tickets or reservations you have. The band tells Disney who you are then Disney looks up what tickets you have, what room you're staying in, etc.

anyone know the answer?
I'm confused. Do you have a room + tickets package or do you have a room-only reservation and tickets (either purchased from Disney or another source) that you linked in MDE?

If it's a package, I don't think that you can get your tickets earlier than 3 days prior to the start of your stay. But if you bought the tickets separately, then you could use them tomorrow if you want. They are not linked to your room reservation in that case.

I booked the hotel reservation only. I called months later to add tickets. They told me total was due at check in but I could cancel tickets if I wanted it was not a package. I was told I could not use tickets until day I checked in to the hotel.

If I wanted the ability to use tickets tomorrow or whenever apparantly I need to buy tickets only immediately and cancel the ones that are linked to my room (ones that require payment at check in)

So If I understand PP I should purchase tickets now and then link them to room reservation and then cancel room tickets I have not paid for yet.? I am confusing myself. LOL Hmm. Wondering if all this is worth an extra day at a park?

Correct. If you were to cancel your tickets without another valid ticket linked to your MDE account there's a very good chance that your FP+ selections will be null and void.

The other PP was correct in stating that if the tickets are not part of a package (I would call and make sure that the CM didn't turn your room-only reservation into a package, BTW, as you were told that they couldn't be used until check-in) you can pick them up and use them whenever you want. If tickets are part of a package they can be picked up 3 days in advance.

I agree that I would call them up to confirm. I don't think it's possible for the OP to have a package just because packages would have had final payment before MagicBands would be shipped. Disney does sell room only + tickets outside of a package even though I imagine it's somewhat rare (and something their site definitely isn't set up to do from what I can tell).

Not sure why they wouldn't let you pick up tickets early from the front desk, but maybe it has to do with the way their system works. Very odd.

If you call them up, I'm sure they will answer everything. I've seen plenty of people with the same general itinerary around the cruise and so I'm sure its something they get all the time.
