What are my chances of getting a 1 bed villa reservation the first week of July, including over the 4th? Also, did the points just go up? My timing stinks!!
 
First, a little background. SSR has four buildings in this first phase. They are opening, one per month, in May through August 2004. By most accounts, Buildings 1 and 2 are completely sold out. That means you would at least be purchasing ownership in Building 3 (if not #4).

SSR owners cannot begin to use their points at ANY DVC properties until the building they own has opened. The projected opening for Building #3 is July 5.

So, unless DVC can dig you up some leftover points in one of the first two buildings, you couldn't check-in until at least July 5th. Honestly, if you call a DVC Guide and tell him/her that an integral part of your purchasing decision is the ability to use the points for a July 4 stay, they might be able to get you some points in one of those first two buildings--perhaps from someone that committed to buy and then later cancelled the contract.

But the next hurdle would be availability. I have no idea what availability for that timeframe is like right now. Maybe someone else can help in that regard.
 
If you can't get into SSR because it is booked, buy your SSR points and ask if you can make reservations in Old Key West, which is fairly large and may have rooms available.

I suspect you would have a tough time getting into BCV, BWV or VWL because they are smaller and tend to fill-up on holidays!:earsboy:
 
Once you've got your points you can stay at any of the resorts. Not sure how difficult they are to book for 4th of July - but you've got a number of possiblities!
 

i had this issue.

I bought the smallest amount of SSR and then did a 50 pt add on at BVC within a couple of days and was able to use my points BCV immediately (of course 50 does not buy much but you can buy more if they have it)

Then I did my 2nd SSR contract (one 150 and one 100 instead of buying 250 in one contract).

just a thought. Ask your guide!
