If I book now for a stay in June 2011....

Can I use points from 2010, 2011 and 2012 for the June 2011 stay? I'm confused as I won't yet have even the 2011 points in my account so I find it hard to believe that right now, I can use points from 2011 and 2012 for a 2011 booking.

I am a new member, but I think I understand DVC well. You can bank your 2010 points, use your 2011 pts and borrow your 2012 points as long as your 2010 use year has already happened (ie NOT an Oct. UY, like mine). If your UY is later then that, you would have to borrow your 2011 points and not be able to borrow your 2012 points as well. Assuming your UY is June or earlier in the year you will be fine. Hope I answered this correctly. Please let me know fellow DVCer's if this is wrong!

Yeah, it all depends on your UY.

If you had a Dec UY like me, you could bank your '09 points and use your '10 points and borrow from '11 points. I don't get my '10 points until December of this year.

it would work for a june UY...but it depends on your UY as others have said. (edited to add: yes, it would work for a feb UY also.)

your 2012 pts are already in your account. you can see it online. but you can't book anything with them till you hit the 11 month window to book the beginning of your 2011 UY (in other words, you can only borrow pts one year ahead).

The info in that link was wonderful! It really helped me understand the UY better. I bought resale and was told numerous times by a few people that UY is irrelevant if I plan on keeping our reservations. Since I'm almost 40 and haven't cancelled a reservation yet, I had no problems with a Feb. UY. Now, I know what it all means. Thanks again!

Here is what helps me. The first thing you do is figure out what UY your trip will take place.

Once you know this, figuring out the points is a bit easier. A trip can be "paid" for with banked points from the previous UY, the current UY points, and borrowing points from the next UY.

So, for a June 2011 trip with a Feb UY, the trip takes place in your Feb 2011 UY. You can "pay" for it with banked 2010 points, 2011 points, and borrowed 2012 points.

I think what confuses some is that they think they don't get the points until the first day of the UY--that is not really the way it works. You have all your points now. Your UY just tells when they turn from "next year's points to "current UY" points.

When MS books, they look to see what points will be available when you travel and not what is current and available for a trip that day. This is why members can book any vacation 11 (or 7) months in advance regardless of when their UY is.
