I booked my room (Pop) about a month ago. I paid in full for the two nights. I received my statement in the mail, and now that I have the room paid, I ordered my tickets so they will be on my next statement.

While I had the CM on the phone about the tickets I asked about adding the dining plan (my intention was to do that during my next billing cycle, after I have the tickets paid for). The CM told me in order to add dining he will have to rebook my room and that I could not have the AAA rate! I know I have heard that you have to pay rack for the "free" dining, but I not going during that time period.

So, is it true that I can't have the dining plan if I have a AAA rate on my room?

Thanks

Someone else may correct me, but I think the answer is that it sounds as if you are paying for things seperately and the dining can only be put on a package. I'm guessing the procedure is something like they have to cancel your room only reservation and re-book it as a package and maybe the AAA rate is gone for that date or cannot be applied to that package. I'm sorry I don't have more answers, that's just my best guess.

You cannot do the room and dining plan separately. It's a package. If you book the package through Disney, you cannot get AAA discount on the pkg. You will have to book the package through AAA to get a discount. We just went in April and used AAA to get the room/dining plan pkg at a discount. The dining plan portion will not be discounted at all, though....just the room portion.

This happened to me for our last trip. I booked at POP using a code that was mailed to me from Disney - We got a great deal, but when I tried to get dining, they said I had a choice:

Pay rack for the room and add dining

or

No dining for you (dining nazi maybe?) :stir:

We chose no dining because to lose the great price would not have been worth it to get dining.

As others have said the Magic Your Way with Dining Plan is a package only.
You can go to a AAA travel agent and book a package with dining at an AAA discount, if it is available for your time frame. It will be cancelling and rebooking if you do this.
You can change your current room only reservation to a package with dining and at least one day park ticket for everyone in the room. If you do this however, you will be paying rack rate for the room - no AAA discount.
You need to do the math and see if it is cheaper for you to pay full rate for the room and get the value for your meals or not.
Look at the menus on allearsnet.com and check out the restaurants you might want to eat at, and the costs of the meals. This will help you to determine about what your meal budget will be and which approach is more cost effective for you.
When we used the Dining Plan in October, we (3 adults) saved $450 over the cost of the meal plan. So it worked for us. But it does not necessarily work for everyone in every situation.

Thank you for your responses. I think I will just leave things as they are and not bother with the dining plan. I am solo. I considered dining because I will be meeting up with my DSis one night at Chef Mickey and since AK closes at 7 the day I go and I am not planning on hopping, I thought I would check out AKL and eat at Boma. That is why the dining plan. However, I think I may well save some $$ and just grab something at Mara.
