If Hurricane Hits... Resort Refund Question

We're due to check-in at SSR on a rental ressie on September 12th. While I know Frances is due to hit before that, I am a little concerned that yet another hurricane could be on it's way for our week, god forbid. If a hurricane does hit while we're down there, are the DVC points refund during the time we are effected? I know we wouldn't receive a direct refund from Disney but what is the normal proceedure for refunds etc. for the actual day/night the hurricane hits? Will they offer you an extended stay for what is essentially time lost/down time?

I don't know that they are obligated to do anything. Did you purchase trip insurance? Also, you might want to just call and find out what the resort says.

I hope it all works out for you!

This is just my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt. We were supposed to go this weekend. I am rescheduling for next weekend (9-12). If a hurricane were to hit that weekend, you probably be hearing about it by the beginning of next week or even now (of something way off brewing). I have not heard of anything else out there (unless they are just not focusing on it).

You need to work with the person who rented you the points. Usually DVC points are not refunded. If you miss your check in, the points are forever lost. However, I did see some posts where some points were refunded due to Charlie. Any additional time stayed after the original reservation would need to be worked out with the Resort (cash basis).

Well this is just my opinion. I don't know what Disney would officially do. I would think if you have already checked in then no they would not refund anything (DVC or regular reservations). It seemed for Charley, for the guest already there, they credited back to your ticket a park day for the day that the parks closed early. Also looks like they tried to keep people safe and comfortable in the hotels once the hurricane hit.

I would imagine (hope) if the hurricane caused you to postpone your trip, then they would work with you. I think in another post someone was concerned about this and called CRO. They were told that they would not be responsible for the cancellation fee.

Hey suzy - thanks for the information, it's comforting. I know some people watch the Atlantic closer to Africa to see if anything is beginning to brew. I hadn't heard anything yet, so I'm glad you confirm that nothing else is heading behind Frances.
