If Gasoline goes to $4/gal, will you change your vacation plans?

Gas just hit $3.11 here. We have already changed our vacations plans for the summer. We were originally planning on doing a road trip to New York City, and also flying to California to visit our family. Well, we cancelled the road trip. We booked our airfare at $1501 for 4 tickets to LAX. We usually spend less than that for tickets during the Christmas holiday.

Well, it's $3.55 in California and we were planning on renting a car while we are there.

If prices were to surge even 30% from their January low, prices would hit $3.80 by the middle of the summer. If prices were to match their 2008 increase, Americans will be staring at $4 gasoline and an equivalent of wiping out the entirety of the stimulative effects of the Obama tax cut.

So, will this affect Disney World attendance this summer?

It's already there and even higher in many parts of the country. Who knows what it will be by mid-summer?

It's $3.69 today in the Chicago suburbs, even higher in the city so we're quickly approaching that scary $4 mark. Ugh, not fun

We are still driving from Wisconsin. We are just downsizing from our full-size SUV to the mid-size car. Still cheaper than flying and renting a car.

I was looking at air fare today. For now it would be about $991 round trip to drive. Air is at $1557 for the dates and times we would like. If I play with the dates traveling on Tuesday I can get the air down to $1095. Which is very good but we miss out on the weekend. I am really not sure what to do right now! I don't think gas will go above the $5 I have budgeted but really anything could happen!

Not this year. But I can see the next couple years being years where we don't do anything. Thanks speculators.

We decided to fly. I am changing our dates to Tuesday - Wednesday to get the better fare and we are taking a 6am flight but we would have left our driveway by 5am! So for a total of $1017.00 we are locked in and flying! I feel pretty good about it.

I hope it ends up that gas doesn't go up anymore and I just spent more than I needed too! Cause I still have to drive even if I don't drive to Florida!
