If DVC resorts opened with no parks, would you go

With no amenities open I would say no. Even if the pool and restaurants were open I'd guess they'd be packed to the point it wouldn't be enjoyable to use the amenities.

Our trip was scheduled exactly when all of the closures began. When the parks closure was announced (but resorts were still remaining open), we briefly considered a resort-only stay because our trip wasn't just to go to WDW, but to visit family. We quickly abandoned that plan when it became clear that visiting family wasn't prudent and travel restrictions were being put in place rapidly.

We have an October reservation at OKW, but if parks are not open yet, we'll almost certainly cancel (may do so anyway if the situation hasn't improved enough to allow us to make the trip). We have about 40 points that will expire in August of 2021 (thankfully, our SEP UY allowed me to bank those 2019 points because the closure hit before our banking deadline).

If it looks like WDW is not in the cards between now and then, I'd consider a short stay at HHI to use those points.

We would only do a resort stay IF everything at the resort was operating (restaurants, pool, activities). No park isn't a huge deal to us. It's nice just to be able to get away from home. And I would definitely need that now more than ever. But just to go and sit in your room with nothing else available = BIG NOPE.

We have June 20-27th booked (moved from May). Our good friends are also going that week. I want to cancel and use points at HH in the fall. Bam, easy. But DH wants to hold tight for now. We are moving NEXT WEEK (eeeekkkk) to PA. Will now be 6 hours farther away from HH and from WDW. He says no to HH because now it will be too far a drive. I point out that we have to drive to WDW in June, with current resies. And it also will now be 6 hours farther (about 16 hour drive in total). Personally, I'd rather drive the 11 to HH than 16 to WDW. And I wouldn't have to buy park tix. Our FP window opens in a few days (like the 20th or 21st) and I need ticketing for 3 of us. Hate to buy and then A) trip gets cancelled due to WDW still being closed or B) resort is open but parks are not...or even just MK is open (MK is our least fave park).

So...long winded but I want to cancel. Today. I even pointed out to DH that parks might not be open. He doesn't seem to care. Now. Now he says it will be fine but then if we get there and they aren't open he will gripe and complain. We also cancelled a July cruise to Canada that he was REALLY wanting to do. Cancelled the May WDW trip for F&G (had a club level AKV studio for 2 of the nights and the Cali Grill brunch booked as well). Moved that to a May HHI trip thinking maybe WDW would still be closed but HH would open. Then realized that wasn't likely so we cancelled that and booked this June trip. Oh, and we initially had Mother's Day at HH and cancelled that for the May F&G trip (to see Survivor). So DH, fairly, says he is tired of changing plans. We had the NCL Hawaii cruise booked for 2021 for our 25th Anniversary and I just could not stomach the thoughts of the flight so I cancelled it. I was going to book Aulani for before the cruise for like 3 nights.

Again, I blabber on and on. But I just don't know what to do. I have 263 points tied up in June trip. Then I have 94 tied up for January to run the 10K (which hasn't opened registration so maybe the races will be cancelled all together). I have gotten no refund yet ($950 paid in) for the cancelled July cruise. I have $1055 paid into another cruise in Oct (this is paid in full and a non cancel-able rate). It's out of Charleston which would have not been a bad drive from current house but will now be 6 hours longer from new house. Don't really want to go. If we could cancel, we probably wouldn't get refund anyway as we still haven't from other cruise (nor have folks whose March cruises were cancelled...that is HAL and Oct is CCL). ALso have a Celebrity cruise for March. Not even thinking about that yet and final payment isn't until Dec and we can cancel before then (but also at risk of not getting refund if all these cruise lines go bankrupt).

But, the thread question...I might not care too much if we go in June and parks are closed. We are staying SSR and if DS is open we will just go eat and drink there. Will bop around the resorts...eating and drinking. Probably would hang out more with our friends that way since they have 2 little girls who love the parks so we'd likely not see them that much if parks are open (our girls are 21 so we are over the parks and rides and shows and just do 2 FP and leave typically). But if they only open certain hotels and DS doesn't open either...then no thanks. Def don't want just MK. Would love AK or Epcot to be open. In fact, if I do go ahead and buy tix and make FP it will just be 1 day tix for now and FP will be at AK.

Frustrated and starting to feel some cabin fever. So this topic is a nice distraction. Looking forward to more posts on this thread.

OP's scenario is actually what Shanghai Disney is doing. They were closed already back in January and started partial re-opening resorts but not the park back in March. Here's the annoucement from the Shanghai DIsney website.

I feel your frustration and cabin fever! We are scheduled for the same dates and I am conflicted as well. We are in Michigan so we would be flying down and spending the week in a 1BR at RIV. If no parks are open, I will cancel. If at least one or two parks are open, we will go.

It's snowing today in Michigan. The idea of being at a lovely resort and hanging out at a pool for a week is a nice distraction :)

We would only if we were going to lose our points before March 31, 2021

With no parks, there’s nothing in Orlando that would motivate me to visit. I would definitely consider an Aulani trip though.

I bought a timeshare with Disney that only guarantees me a room at a Disney resort. I might not like traveling to use my timeshare and not be able to visit that park, but really in the end I bought the right to use a room.

For me I always viewed my DVC timeshare as a resort that happens to be near a theme park. Not the other way around. A theme park with a resort. If the hotel had amenities and I could use the pool and have access to a bar and some restaurants I would happily accept a resort stay.

I do think that what could happen is VB, HHI and Aulani might see an uptick in interest. Aulani in particular can be point intensive for a stay, so that could eat up quite a lot of member points. I tried to use up my points at Aulani between March 22 - March 28 and the resort closed on me  -- I would have been perfectly happy to have stayed at Aulani, but Disney had other plans.

We have enjoyed trips without parks in years past, however a trip without the pool would not be worth it. We're in NH so it is a 24 hour drive minimum, typically add in east coast traffic and the last time we drove it was in our motor home (we've since sold it) with all the conveniences. Driving a car and stopping for 2-3 nights in hotels, all those public bathrooms (yuck) both ways would be worse than flying IMO. We already cancelled May and October and are unsure about our TX Thanksgiving at this point. I love the idea of blowing all your cookies on a cabin, though! Patience is not my best attribute! :rolleyes1

I have done non-park stays before, but those were tied to other activities in the region. If Disney parks remain closed, but most of the resort amenities and other "no/low crowd" activities in the region are available, I am open to the idea of doing such a stay.

LAX
Without the parks, I wonder what magic Disney could add to DVC resorts.

Like if each night HS set off fireworks so everybody in the nearby resorts could watch.
Maybe they could set a schedule for the Food Trucks to visit each resort.
Pretty sure pools could open. The chlorine does a good job killing microbes.

Would be cool to visit this alternate WDW. I'm still holding out hope they somehow open the parks eventually, even if that comes with limitations.

So...since we have the same week booked...let's talk dining. What do you have booked? I only have a few:
6/21 Raglan Road brunch
6/23 Topolino's dinner
6/25 Yak and Yeti dinner (will cancel 1, need to see when I can get FOP)
6/26 Yak and Yeti dinner

What ADRs do you have? I may sit here tonight and make a bunch. We were just going to wing it but if park aren't open, then maybe the restaurants will get slammed.

So, do I buy DH and AP. I have one. Then book FP for the 2 of us and do 2 days of AK (for FOP) and 2 days of HS (for Mickey Railway)....and we can share with DDs. Will then buy them park tickets when we arrive. Or I could buy 2 day tix for DH and DDs or 1 day tix. Hmmm?!?!?!?!?

No, I want everything the resorts have to offer before I would fly all the way down there.

We have Morimoto Asia 6/21 for DD12s birthday, Cali Grille on 6/24 for my bday and Topolino’s on 6/26.

I haven’t bought tickets yet but will probably get base tickets now and upgrade to PH or DVC APs upon arrival. I’m still hesitant to buy tickets but I know even if this trip doesn’t happen we will be back 😊

Yes probably would just to burn points rather than lose them, as long as I get to stay in a boardwalk villa. Also probably drive over and spend a few nights at Panama City Beach where we like to stay. Not ready to fly yet.

Booked Morimoto for 6/26. And got Victoria and Albert's for 6/22. Ohana on 6/20. And Liberty Tree on 6/24. So we have a dinner every night except Father's Day where I booked a brunch instead (at raglan Road). Kept the Yak and Yeti on 6/25. And Topolino's on 6/23. But I'd rather Narcoosee's or Flying Fish or Yachtsman as we've not been to those and they have been around longer. DH and I watched a You Tube review of Topolino's tonight and it seems a bit meh.

Tickets and FP...just buying doing the minimum.
