Ive looked around RIV whilst I was there. The rooms are really nice. Although coming from the UK, Im trying to avoid a European feel.

But the hidden Mickey's in the carpet etc are a great touch. I thought it was a beautiful hotel in a great location.

I have 155 direct points (BLT), so I will be booking a week there in a 1BR standard view, EPCOT firework hopefully!

The aspect that confuses me the most about the RIV is the location. It’s literally a DVC resort built on a Moderate property. So I’m getting the location of a Moderate at Deluxe pricing. That has been my major holdup with the Resort. If RIV was built on the plot where Reflections was supposed to be built it would change my perspective entirely.

It does seem strange to me, but for a slightly different reason. Imagineers have been concerned with sight lines and immersive theming for decades. I'm still perplexed at their decision to put a European mid-rise building among the short Caribbean-themed buildings.

I don't think this has been the case for many years. After all, I can see the Contemporary from the Wilderness Lodge, the Grand Floridian from the Polynesian, and pretty much everything from Bay Lake Tower. For people looking for a reason to dislike Riviera this narrative fits as long as we disregard all of the other design faux-pas. Personally, I liked seeing the colorful CBR buildings from my Riviera room, but I wasn't looking for a reason to complain about Riviera so that may have made a difference.

It's also true with the Swan & Dolphin. The Boardwalk and Yacht & Beach Clubs compliment each other, but the Swan and Dolphin....don't.

And yes, you can see the MK resorts from each other, but they're not on the same property like CBR/Riv, although that has no bearing in my decision to not purchase Riviera.

The only reason I could see for the Riv's location is the Skyliner stop but that seems pretty weak.

These poll results are very interesting... If I were DVC and in a massive financial hole I would consider removing the restrictions knowing about a third of current owners would add on @ Riveria. If DVC did some marketing and better deals you could maybe gain another third of our owners adding on at Riveria. This could mean up to 66% would buy at Riveria without restrictions. Even if you say half the "Maybe" votes would buy thats 50% of current owners.

Removing the restrictions wouldn't cost DVC a dime which in today's market is amazing. Your expenses for removing the restrictions is zero and the sale through is in the 50% range of current owners. I know some will say they are playing the long game but right now we are seeing unprecedented times. Let hope DVC reads this thread!

The resale restrictions are not for me or you. They are a weapon for guides to use during the sale pitch. If a potential buyer goes on the Internet and read the common tip "don't buy direct, buy resale", the guide can easily answer: that was before, now there are those nasty restrictions for resale, do you really want to be limited to one resort instead of 15?
DVC thinks that the restrictions will help close more sales than are lost because of them. If that doesn't prove to be true, then they'll revert them. I don't think it'll happen, they're a big selling point for the guides.

There are many on here that try to make the argument that the location is somehow better than the BWV and BCV. Its been brought up a ton in RIV discussions but some people just view it as a positive because of the Skyliner.

I think the Skyliner helps put it in the same category as CCV but below the likes of BWV, BCV, and BLT. With the walkway opening likely in the next year or two it is also behind the VGF and POLY (yes its a little bit of a walk but its nothing crazy).

To put it in perspective someone even tried to say CCV was somehow better in location than BLT as well. I purchased at CCV but wish it was sitting on the land of BLT (just couldn't get over the theme at BLT to purchase there). So have BWV and CCV as my two resorts.

I may have instead of BWV resale and possibly in place of my CCV fixed week.

I really like BWV but dislike the shorter contract and I might be swayed to buy RIV then.
We bought BWV direct, then followed with 2 BWV resale contracts a few years ago.
Last year, we visited the RIV models & fell in love. The décor, large rooms, the location, the gondola, the entire elevated experience won us over. I compared buying more more BWV vs RIV - over the course of each contract (up to 22 vs 50 years), RIV came in notably lower priced per point. Add in that all of our 5 existing contracts would expire 2042/2054, it just made sense to buy something that our children & their children will continue to enjoy (our adult children already love WDW/DVC, and their passion has only increased over the years).

Initially, I had wondered that if BWV had the longer expiration, would we have bought there.....but, i don't think so. It's nice to have another resort we are so enthusiastic about!!
