If Disney changed DDP again....

I'm curious what you all think....

If WDW changes their Disney Dining Plan again (either by taking it away, reducing it, changing prices, etc) would you still go to Disney?

What would be the final straw concerning Disney Dining that you would put up with before you'd stop going to Disney at all? Would you go back to eating off-site if you had to?

I'll go first. Since I've only visited when the DDP was in place, I cannot imagine going to Disney again without it.

1) If Disney changes their DDP again, I probably would not go back to WDW (I might get flamed for this but there are too many other all-inclusive Carribean packages out there at $2500 pp plus alcoholic beverages to list to choose Disney again under these "ever-changing" circumstances).

2) When we go in March (we've been in 2007) we're trying it this time without the gratuity included. Plus I notice that a lot of restaurants once accepting 1TS now require 2TS. If the list of restaurants gets slimmer I definitely would not go. Disney is quite consuming as it is walking around the parks that I cannot imagine all those folks that USED TO eat outside of the parks (how did you do ever do it?? I would not have wasted my time! I don't have that kind of patience)

I have to admit, my vacations often revolve around the food. I would never go anywhere that didn't have good food and fun.

Not to knock Disney but with the changes to the DDP it's made my thought process a lot different on whether I'll visit a 3rd time. I'll know for sure next month when I go!

I wish we could go back to the years when it first came out. *sighs*

I'm a DVC member, I'm goin' to Disney. :woohoo:

I think I understand your sentiment about the food though, this is my first trip (May) to use the DDP, but Disney is many different things to many people and I wasn't planning to do a lot of restaurants until I decided to get the DDP, in fact, I got in that food train of thought, I just upgraded to the DxDP, but I bought the DVC just to get away from the noise at Disney. :lmao:

I can't see me boycotting Disney unless they just did something outrageous.

I guess I should mention that upon leaving from my '06 trip (a perfect trip) I thought I'd never return to Disney and yes, because of the constant noise. :lmao:

Love the DVC life, love it.

We're only staying onsite and doing the DDP b/c of the 4/3 deal. So it will not keep from coming to WDW in the future. We'll just stay offsite - which was our original plan anyway. The 4/3 deal got me!

The DDP (whatever form) isn't a make-or-break issue for me. If it's there, and I'm staying on-site, I'll use it if it makes sense. Otherwise, I won't.

Everything changes.

Everything. To say that one more change, regardless of what it is, will cause you such grief is to guarantee such an event will eventually occur. Price will go up or what's included will go down, over time, barring significant economic deflation, which seems highly unlikely.

You simply have to ask yourself: is the DDP still worth it to me? And if the answer is "no", then ask: is Disney worth it, without the DDP?

Where else can ya go and find so many good restaurants?

Vegas!!
But no DDP there. :lmao:

AMEN!! Though you can go to the 'expensive' Sunday Brunch buffet at Bellagio and it's STILL cheaper than Chef Mickey's Out of Pocket for dinner.

I've done DDP the last three years and can't recall a single one credit TS that became two. And with over 100 TS restaurants on the DDP I don't think the list is too slim. Yes it used to be a better value, but last month we felt there was good value and saved us hundreds. And DDP or not, I'll go, I'll eat, I'll have a good time.

Absolutely!!

Think about the room conversion too, Vegas has nice rooms, for the price of a 1 BR DVC ya can get the mini suite at the Bellagio.

ooooh but there IS a dining plan in vegas. It just kinda sucks

Yeah, that dining plan is called the craps table. :headache:

I still love Vegas, just find that I have more fun with my money at Disney now. :upsidedow

The dining plan isn't going to make or break my WDW vacation. We've used what is now called the basic twice. We really like it but decided against using it again due the the tip no longer being included and no appetizer. Plus right now we just don't want to do a TS meal every night. To me, and this is just my humble opinion, I thing the DxDP is just way too much food and way too much time out of the parks. If it works for you and your family, that's great, but to me, once again, it's just too much time out of the parks.

This time we are trying the QSDP. It seems OK. If they didn't have a QSDP we would still go. If they had not dining plan at all, I would still go. I can see though that if the prices keep going up and the quality keeps going down, I can see maybe leaving the parks and eating off site. Plus all these "holiday" surcharges, like calling all of June a holiday. I can definitely see people eating off site more.

Overall I like the idea of a dining plan, I like that most of the trip would be prepaid and I could get whatever I want without worrying about pirces. It makes if feel more like an all inclusive vacation. But if they didn't have a DDP I would still go.

We would still go for sure and still stay on site. We had planned to do a mix of CS and TS dinners this year and not get buy the DDP (in any form) but the US dollar keeps getting stronger against the British pound and if it continues will be sooooo expensive for us Brits. I have just added the DDP onto our vacation this May so that the cost of the meals won't be a massive shock when we get there.

If they didn't do the Dining Plan at all in the future, we would just eat more CS meals.

We went without DDP in 2003. We stayed onsite (AKL). Granted, we had a military discount (on the tickets and the room). I still had fun. We ate onsite and offsite. Granted, we drive down there, so we had a car.

Things are expensive at Disney...but I think things are expensive everywhere. If it is a trip with kids, I'd rather go to Disney than the Carribean. It is easier to drive somewhere, stay in the country, etc. even if the cost is the same, and frankly there is more entertainment at Disney.

Without the DDP, we definitely would eat more offsite or have gotten a room with a kitchen.

I've never done the DDP, so it definitely doesn't make a difference to me whether or not they offer it or what it includes. I am considering trying it next trip (if it's still around, next trip won't be for a couple years) for the convenience factor. But it's definitely not a make-or-break option for me. I love Disney, they'd have to do something drastically bad to make me not want to go back.

If Disney changed their dining plan, or got rid of it, I would still go to Disney. I go to Disney World because I love it, and I want my child to love it too. I don't go for the food. Actually, this is my first time going using the dining plan. Before, we would go to Micky D's in the morning, and eat quick service at night. I wish the plan still included appitizers, and tips, but what can you do?

I find it interesting that the question is "will you stop going to Disney" and not "will you stop using the dining plan."

I haven't used the dining plan since they changed it in 2008. I still go. It's possible to have a great trip without being on the dining plan.

My ending point should have been last year, when WDW converted my favorite place in the entire WDWorld to a convention only venue. I have fewer trips this year, and need other excuses to go, but I am still going.

Plus I notice that a lot of restaurants once accepting 1TS now require 2TS.

When is the last time you used DDP?

As far as I know, they removed Coral Reef from the 2 credit list and added Cinderella's Royal Table. This occurred several years ago. I think all the others on that list have always been 2 credits.

Curious:

What was it?

As a DVC member I would still continue to go. This sept will be the first time Ive used the DDP as it will save us money. To be totally honest I would prefer that they did away with it since I feel imo that the food choices and quality have diminished a bit since it came into existance.

I enjoy the DDP, no question. I look forward to it. However, for the most part the food at WDW isn't what I'd call amazing. It's certainly overpriced.

For us WDW isn't about food - they can do what ever they want with the dining plan, but I'll be back. I may choose not to use the DDP, but I'm not quitting Disney over food.

Well, I've been going to Walt Disney World for twenty-something years, and Las Vegas for about fifteen. No reason to change now.

No, a/any change in the Dining Plan would in NO way affect my Disney vacations. Last year, renting DVC points cost me less than Pop Century would have - so I did not bother with the DDP, and I really, really like it. Just as well - I wasn't hungry most of the time.

But I was visiting long before the DDP was a glint in anyone's eye, and knock wood I'll be visiting for many years to come.

Just curious, which place did they convert to a convention only venue? I must have missed that one.

Didn't LeCellier used to be a 2 credit restaurant or was it just not included originally on the DDP?
