If the Cont became DVC resort do you think they would update the pool?? posted same ? resort BB. For such a Deluxe and monorail resort you would think it woud have a much nicer pool.

:smooth: You mean when they do change to DVC . Rumer has it one of the wings will be knocked down or converted to a DVC resort:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I actually liked the pool there -- yes it was boring, but also very quiet in the wee hours of the morning. We would go to the hot tub every night at midnight.

Since we're operating on hope rather than information, let's hope that this project is part of a general updating of the CR. When it was first built--predating most of the Hyatt/Embassy Suites atrium style--the A-frame itself was thrilling. Now it needs freshening up and the addition of a bit more luxury in areas like the pool.

We have no idea if this project is really on the drawing boards or not. So lets assume it is (based on nothing but hope) and let's assume that it's part of a big, wonderful update for the entire resort, pool and all.

I don't know if this rumor has any validity or not, but here's my take on the pool upgrade.

If I'm Disney and DVC is selling like hotcakes, and I know that ANY DVC resort on the monorail will sell like crazy, what's my incentive to upgrade the pool?

The only incentive would be to make the Contemporary more appealing for cash guests, IMHO. And of course, things like pool upgrades can be paid for in part (or whole...who knows how they really allocate costs) by future DVC member dues.

Kind of a jaded look at it, but hey, I haven't had my cup of coffee yet this morning! :p

Not sure if the OP meant the pool was outdated or was dirty/rundown. But if DVC does decide to build DVC rooms at CR, I hope they keep everything intact and as original as possible. We use to stay at CR back in the ‘80s when I was a kid and I loved it. I recently attended a work-related conference down there and was pleased that, although the décor had slightly changed, the resort still felt the same to me. As mentioned, it may now seem boring and not so ‘contemporary’ but it is a true classic. I would even go so far as to label it an Historical Landmark, as it was one of the original WDW resorts and was so innovative for the time.

EGADS! I think the Contemp is in BAD need of a pool upgrade. I'm sorry, but it is lame. Even if it didn't go DVC I still think it needs some major attention.
I would think if DVC is built there and they do tear down buildings, etc. a new pool would sure to be in the works.

Maybe they would add a quiet pool on the other side of the North wing area that would be more-or-less accessible only by people in the DVC part of the hotel? I'm thinking of the pool at BCV by the canal.

We stayed in the north wing through SOG before we bought DVC-- the kids and dh loved it. They also liked the pool even though it wasn't "fancy". Strange thing is, the kids aren't crazy about SAB and that was one of the reasons we bought BCV.

if they just do the North wing - then no the main pool will be the same (my opinion) - if they do both - then I would expect the pools to be upgraded too.

However I have yet to see anything in writing from DVC that the Contemporary is on the list - and even then they have changed their minds before - remember California......that would have been a good one instead they let Marriott have it.....

How about they theme the pool in a Jules Verne water play area?
(make use of the beloved 20,000 leauges props) In a retro contempory way.

well I guess I missed my chance a having a Nautalis in my back yard.

I stayed at the contemporary once, in the towers, we had th MK view and it was wonderful. I am thinking of buying to the DVC, and would love the contemporary to be my home resort, but then I wouldn't be able to use my points for the tower. The pool could use an upgrade, but our family had a great time there anyhow, and loved playing in the sand.:D

With SSR selling at freakin' $95 a point what do you think Disney will want for CR if it goes DVC?

probably nothing else than $150 a point - considering it would be a monrail DVC resort. the cost of the monrail would be shared between the Cont hotel and the DVC part - that is not a cheap system to have. So I would expect the annual fees to be pretty high here as well.

my opinion does not count.

I was thinking $125...and I think it would sell just fine. MF would probably be higher than any DVC resort though!

In the last 3 years, DVC points from Disney have gone from $72 to $95 ( at SSR ). I would expect the next 5 years to see a similar price increase since DVC purchases show no signs of slowing down. Since any CR DVC would happen AFTER SSR sells out, you can pretty much bet the cost will be pretty high. But if you need those monorail rides, the sky's the limit!

Is it the lack of theming at the pool that bothers people? Or is it just really rundown? You gotta keep in mind that for 1971 that style was considered first rate. I dunno, maybe the problem IS me, I tend to be a preservationist about certain things like Disney and '65 Mustangs.
