If booking the dining package can you opt to keep tickets for later visit.

I am thinking of booking old key west for January but to get the Disney dining pack I have to order theme park tickets. I do not need them this year as I have complimentary tickets to use. Can I just keep them unused for a different visit or can I opt to give them to family to use next year. Or will they automatically be on our room key.

Thanks

If booked as part of a (uk) package, tickets are assigned to the guests listed on the ressie and are non transferable

I am not sure if the 2016 tickets will be valid for a later use. I didin't see any expiration on the package T&Cs but tickets T&Cs state that they need to be activated by december 31st of the year they're purchased for
So as long as you use the tickets the same year you should be ok

Would'nt it be easier to use your package tickets ans save your comps for later ? When do they expire ? Is there any way to have them extended ? (I had comp tickets once that were made valid until 2030)

You have to use the tickets by the end of the year in which they were bought for so your tickets would need to be activated by 31 December 2016. They will be on your MBs and are non-transferrable.

We have upgraded package tickets to an AP certificate in the past rather than an active AP due to timing of trips. I now have 2 AP certificates that haven't been used but they are OK to hold on to until we need them. Maybe an option for you to save losing the money?

Otherwise I would use the package tickets and hold the Comp tickets for another time or looking renting DVC points or a room only discount at a different resort.

The only reason I was planning to use the comp ones first (2 days plus 2 water park days) was that we did not plan to do many days in Disney this visit so I though we could keep the tickets until next year when we may feel like doing more - but I think I will go back to my original plan and just either book a villa/condo off-site or look into renting dvc points(not done this before). I phoned disney booking line but they were not that forthcoming with advise. They sort of suggested that we could keep tickets until end of year but then seemed to back track on that. I do not plan on visiting next summer so end of year wouldn't help anyway.

Hi chmurf- when you picked up your complimentary tickets where they already assigned to names as I will be picking up 7 tickets (all under my email correspondence) but only 4 out of the original 7 are returning the additional three will probably never be going back, so I am trying to find out if I can re-assign the tickets to 3 of my group for a later visit. Don't want to call and ask - in case they remove them lol

I picked the tickets up at DTD guest relations.
I told the Cast Member that we were unlikely to come back to florida before long, so he offered to make them valid until 2030
I don't think they were assigned to any name but there's no way to tell what will happen with your tickets. You'll only know when you get there. And don't hesitate to ask the Cast Members and explain your issues.

Package tickets can be saved be saved for later in the same year - we have done it. They just sit on your MDE the only thing is they do need to used by the end of the year.

If you end up with 2 or more sets of tickets ensure that the GS CMs have set the correct priority order on them for how you want to use them, DD had an active AP, active water park AP and an unused Ultimate. When to the water park and it used her Ultimate which I was saving. Didn't notice till we got home and had a headache sorting it out!

I was going to ask the same question, and think I have my answer, so thanks :) We have booked a package onsite for 2 weeks with the free dining staying from 21st April and so have the 14 day tickets included. However we are now going and staying offsite for 2 weeks this October for 2 weeks. Rather than buy a 14 day ticket for October we were thinking of buying an AP for the extra perks (I am currently doing my calculations!). So reading this, if I am right, we can go in April and using our MBs with the AP connected we can use the AP for that visit, and keep the new MBs with the 14 day ticket for a visit at the end of the year.

Now, I guess I am right in assuming there is no way I can upgrade those 2016 package Ultimate tickets to an AP to start Oct 15? I could kick myself as we were just there in May and we could have upgraded to an AP then, but didn't even think we'd be going back this year!

If you buy an AP for October 2015 then you can use that in April 2016 and save the package tickets however they do need be used or upgraded by 31 December 2016.

Regarding the MB - nothing is linked to a MB it just contains a chip with a unique identifier that links to your MDE account. In your account you will have your active APs and your package tickets. Now this isn't a problem but I would suggest a quick visit to the GS or ticket desks on the way in to your first park in April to check that the tickets have the right priority set i.e. AP first. They should do but DDs didn't for some reason once which I learned the hard way!

And as the MB just reads your account your can use them interchangeably :goodvibes

Thanks so much Elise79 :) Am I right in thinking I can't activate the April 2016 ones until we get there? I can't use them this October for example and then upgrade them to an AP?

No you can't get package tickets prior to check in so you wouldn't be able to get them and upgrade them in October.

I called Disney about this and they told me categorically under no circumstance can I save the tickets, nor can I change them for AP vouchers for a later date (I would be travelling with a current DVC annual pass so didn't need the tickets). So we decided to stay offsite.

Unfortunately you were miss informed.

We have upgraded unused package tickets for DVC AP vouchers before twice. We have also saved DDs ticket till later in the year and then upgraded it to an AP renewal.

The only problem I have is I now have 2 AP vouchers that I will have had for 2 years before they are activated.

I have done it myself in the past, but they told us that from next year (when they give the MM away free) they will no longer offer this, I spoke to 3 different people who all told me the same thing. Now, whether it comes to be true or not I don't know but it was too much money to take the risk for me

I was also told this! We have 5 two day tickets to use,
But was told if we buyvthe package starting from next year,we will not be allowed to save them for later in the yr.

So it seems the tickets are now part of the package, assigned to those dates, rather than actual separate tickets? If that is the case that also means, for example, that those who do split stays, and don't use their tickets until, say 4 days into their stay, cannot now use them beyond their stay in the Disney parks? They can only use them for the dates of their actual stay in the Disney hotel that they booked them against? Not that I am intending to do that, it would just seem that they now HAVE to be used against the stay they were booked against and any flexibility with that has been removed.

I would guess in the above example you can use them consecutively for as many days as they last from your day of check in at WDW, even if not all your days are at WDW resort hotel. Already you cannot use them prior to checking into you WDW resort (this used to be possible). They are trying to tie people in to a total on site stay.

Nothing as changed as far as package tickets go

There used to be a way to pick them up before check in
This is no longer possible

But the tickets haven't changed

They can't be used until check in for the stay they were purchased for as part of a package

But they can be used for their full validity period, which is
- a set number of days over a period of 14 days after first visit for us tickers
- 14 or 21 days after first visit for uk tickets
- They need to be first used before december 31st of the year of the check in date

Regardless of when you check out

They are still regular tickets. The only thing is that they can't be activated before check in

This is the answer I received yesterday to my enquiry about it from the company I booked my package through:

"With regards to the ticket side of things, there is a step you can take to request when you are in resort that your Disney tickets be removed from your magic bands onto a separate ticket. The check in desk may need a supervisor authorisation to do this but it is something that can be done at present.
This arrangement can change at any time and Disney may decide that they no longer allow this facility so please do note that this can change without notice."

tnis answer is not really relevant to your question

it's just a matter of media type

even if you have "credit card type" tickets, you will still need to have them linked to a MDX account in order to manage FP+

having those real tickets is offered for those who can't, or don't want to, use the Magic Bands

removing the tickets from the magic bands (this alone is not relevant since nothing is stored on a magic band in the first place), but putting the tickets onto a physical ticket just changes one thing : you scan a ticket instead of a magic band (for park entry or for FP+ access)
