from a few months back who shared with you kind people that we decided to crack open the closet door and celebrate our 20th anniversary......well, we're back and I think you young'uns will be very proud to know that we have thrown open said door and are galloping into the 21st century.

On January 6th we signed up for the Wisconsin Domestic Partners Registry, which is, of course, the only way to obtain any miniscule rights in our great state...not to worry, the wills are in place. That, of course, was as romantic as renewing a drivers license on the day after a holiday. It may have been a bit better if my DP would have stopped referring to it as becoming "housebroken".

We have found a church (beautiful, old, comfortable and welcoming) for our "Celebration Service" as we had a committment service 20 years ago. We found a wonderful Reverend who totally gets that we wish to celebrate our time together, our wonderful family and our friends and to have our future together blessed. Thanks to a suggestion from one of you "regulars" (I use that term "regular" loosely) we're going to have our Disney "tip of the hat" by having "The Promise" sung at the end of the service. I bet I've heard that song a hundred times while walking out of Epcot after Illuminations and never listened to the words....it's so beautiful. We both agreed on that immediately. We're having a family unity ceremony as our families have never met. Does anyone know of (an acceptable) family song? And if anyone could offer any readings or something we might use in our service we sure are open to suggestion. It's going to be a fairly interactive service with some of our family and friends speaking from the audience about their relationships with us, etc. All ideas welcome!

We're renting trolleys to take everyone to the Church and back to the wingding at a very nice new Holiday Inn (Yeah, I know it's not Disney and it's only a Holiday Inn, but it is nice and the Chef is great) where we're having an April beach party featuring umbrella drinks and a Key West buffett. Followed, of course, by dancing and limbo-ing till midnight. And, being Wisconsin, and much to the chagrin of some residents of this board, yes, there will be the dreaded chicken dance...and polka...and YMCA...and polka...and another chicken dance...and cheese curds...and polka. And then the Four Tops version of the song "I Believe In You & Me" will play and I will cry....oh, I'm getting carried away again. Sorry.

And five days later we will be winging our way to WDW where Pixie Dust has already been spinkled all over us! We got the nights we needed at the beginning and end at POFQ and all our DVC nights at VWL in between. The flights worked out perfectly. When I called for Vic and Al's we got the Chef's Table:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:! I forgot to book our tour but when I did it was still available which was a minor miracle. And then on a whim I decided to see if I could book a pontoon boat for Wishes after Vic and Al's on our "real" anniversary and what do ya know...pixie dust again, major miracle! BTW, don't tell my DP. I've never, ever been able to pull off a surprise.

So that's our update to date. Hope I haven't bored you all to death.....Will I be banned from here because of the chicken dance thing? No? Well, I expect the polka-ing might do it then...

Love to you childrens,
Auntie Peep

I couldn't be happier for the both of you. :) Congratulations! It sounds like it's going to be an amazing time and trip.

I'm very familiar with way too much Polka dancing at a wedding. Ah, to grow up in the Midwest.

Well, I wasn't around the DIS yet for your original "two old broads" post but I couldn't be happier to hear now about what a fantastic party and a beautiful anniversary trip you have planned. Yes, the stars are completely aligned for you. :goodvibes Congratulations on 20 years together. Have a blast polka-ing away (I love the Chicken Dance!) and have a wonderful/fantastic/beautiful/lovely/insert-even-better-word-here trip!!

Congratulations!

I'm so happy for you!

"Promise" is indeed a beautiful song. The only time I didn't cry while listening to it was when we danced to it at our own wedding. Too happy that day to cry.

And if the Chicken Dance makes you happy, dance it all night long! Just because it wasn't right for us, doesn't mean I think nobody should have it.:rotfl:

As for a "Family" song, I'd recommend "Welcome" by Blind Boys of Alabama from the movie Brother Bear

Here are the lyrics . . .

Everyone's invited, this is how we live
We're all here for each other
Happy to give
All we have we share
And all of us we care, so come on...

Welcome to our family time
Welcome to our brotherly time
We're happy giving and taking
To the friends we're making
There's nothing we won't do

Welcome to our family time
Welcome to our happy to be time
This is our festival
You know and best of all
We're here to share it all

There's a bond between us
Nobody can explain
It's a celebration of life
And seeing friends again
I'd be there for you
I know you'd be there for me too...
So come on

Welcome to our family time
Welcome to our brotherly time
This is our festival
You know and best of all
We're here to share it all

Remembering loved ones departed
Someone dear to your heart
Finding love, and planning a future
Telling stories and laughing with friends
Precious moments you'll never forget

This has to be the most beautiful
The most peaceful place
I've ever been to
It's nothing like i've ever seen before
When i think of how far i've come
I can't believe it...and yet i see it
In them i see family
I see the way we used to be

Come on...

Welcome to our family time
Welcome to our brotherly time
We're happy giving and taking
To the friends we're making
There's nothing we won't do

Welcome to our family time
Welcome to our happy to be time
This is our festival
You know and best of all
We're here to share it all

Nothing says "family" to me like that song does.

The song for our wedding party dance was "Heroes and Friends" by Randy Travis. I didn't realize how tricky it would be to dance to. But it is a good song. :rolleyes1

Congratulations!!!
Your trip sounds wonderful...but even better than that: 20 years is a lot of history...isn't it grand?

I was also going to recomend Welcome from Brother Bear for the unity song.

I am very, very happy for the both of you. You sound so excited in your post it is just fantastic:hug: Congratulations:goodvibes

Hokey Smokes! "Welcome" is a perfect song! You did it again! Of course, now I have to explain to my boss why I'm sitting at my desk with my eye ducts leaking. Ah, the curse of having glass walls in our offices. Many, many thanks.

Well, now I know I must be old. All of you are far too nice to me..even rosiep is nice! But, yes, rosiep, twenty years is a looooooot of history and it is grand, very!

Thanks for all your kind words. Did I mention the party has grown from 75 to a bit over 125? I see a second job in my future.....

Shhhhhhhhh! Don't let that get out.

(ps..DH and I celebrated 26 years yesterday)

Congratulations! Sounds like an awesome celebration.

It all sounds absolutely wonderful!! And it sounds like you've got a special overload of pixie dust for your trip! Congratulations and I hope you have many more years and celebrations together.

All the best to you both!
Have the shinniest shindig of them all!

Peepster! What wonderful plans! I love the song, and I think Rob's suggestion is perfect, don't you? (ALWAYS as a theatre person about music. ::yes:: ).

Congratulations on 20 years together. That is a wonderful thing. I hope all your plans for Disney go smoothly. The V&A and special cruise sound really nice. How lucky was that?! Pixie dust is definitely in the air for you.

Be sure to tell us how everything goes, ok? Even the polkaing chickens! :teeth:

Rosie! Happy 26th!! Here's to the next 26! ::yes:: :teeth:

How wonderful. The trip you have planned sounds perfect. Congratulations!!!

I had such a lousy day at work. I'm an accountant and am currently leading the investigation of a case of employee theft - a long time employee. This thread is magical. I wish the very best to you "two old broads." It's so nice to come home from a crappy day of work and have someone else share their happiness. Thank you and CONGRATULATIONS!!!

before i get carried away in this topic. I just have to throw this out there. You HAVE to do the kentucky fried chicken... Pizza hut... Mcdonalds song. It's becomeone of my new favorites. They play it at all the disney dance parties. In fact there's a whole bunch of disneyfied dance party songs to get you in the mood for Disney. And make every one else jealous that you're coming and they're not.

Rosie! 26 years? What? Where you married at 5? Congratulations to you! And I think the boys would be jealous that you were nice to me so I'll never tell them....

Listen, all of you sound like such fun, so if anyone's in Wisconsin in April you just come on over and we'll all polka together (actually that would be more like the Schottische...ah-ha, look that one up in your Funk & Wagnalls, kids! ). Rob, I promise we'll put the polka-ing chickens (you know, we kinda like that idea...never thought of it before...hmmm, polka-ing chickens) away should you decide to attend.

Do you think I can learn to post pics by April?

Blessings to all of you. DOPEYLUVER, have a better day tomorrow! Thank you all for letting me share with you. I just can't believe what fantastically special peeps you are.

Congrats on getting housebroken!

Sorry it's not more, but to the extent that it's inspired you to bring your families of origin together, it's great.

As to readings: (Don't know if this is helpful but I'm a dedicated busybody and you asked.) When we had a ceremony 15 years ago, which was long before a marriage license was an option, we brought together two VERY different groups of people. I'm a child of the prairie (covered dishes were a big part of the party) and she's from the beaches of Washington.

We needed to bridge the gaps between them, on behalf of the kids we were planning, and make them feel comfortable. So we went REALLY traditional on the whole ceremony, including the readings. Ruth and Naomi, plus I Corinthians, also known as 'Paul's One Good Idea'.

We added some local color to those, too. Adrienne Rich and the best paragraph from 'Fried Green Tomatoes'.

So for whatever that's worth, hope it helps--and again, congratulations.
