I rented points thru a DVC'er (not thru this board, but someone I found on eBay & cotacted directly to make the "purchase". I do not have their phone #, called info & it is non published so I cannot reach them except thru email (who knows when they will get my msg). My flight is cancelled to Orlando & I cannot get my whole family together to try to make the last one that will fly down there. Plus I am worried about losing power & being stuck with a 4yo & 1 yo. Also concerned about lack of supplies for the kids (milk, water for formula, etc). If I call the resort directly to cancel & keep waiting for an email back from the DVC'er, do you think I will be ok? I really hate to lose the $1500 I spent already on my 2bed VWL. Will DVC MS let the DVC'er rent me back the points as soon as I can get another VWL 2bed? I am worried that maybe those points would have expired soon but am hoping MS will be doing something for those who had to cancel due to Jeanne.
How does this work? Anyone????

MS has been good about putting the points back in the persons account without penalty. They have done it with the past three Hurricanes.

I would contact the seller and demand a phone number to reach them to discuss.

This is a tricky situation but Member Services is allowing points to be restored to owners who need to cancel due to hurricane. If you are certain you will not be going, then the first step is to cancel the reservation with the resort. The resort will not be able to help you rebook.

The member cannot reach member services until Monday to ask that the points be restored and then use the points to rebook at a different time for you. It is a little extra work for the member but I'm inclined to believe in the good of people and that once they get your email they will help you. The problem is..will they get your email in a reasonable time so this can be worked out on Monday.

All you can do is cancel with the resort, contact the member via email and ask that they contact you to work out next steps. Do you have a copy of the reservation confirmation? Is the member's number on it? If so, if you haven't heard from the member by Monday, perhaps you can call MS and seek their assistance to call the member directly and ask them to call you. I don't know if they will do that for you but they might.

Good Luck and try not to worry too much. I think once the member knows your situation, they will help you. It would have been nice if they called you knowing the storm may affect your plans. But, if they don't read the disboards, they may not be aware of Disney's policy of restoring points and think you are out of luck anyway.

Keep us posted on how this turns out.

If you rented the points from a member then only a member can cancel, modify, change a ressies either thru MS or the resort. the member always has full control over the ressies.

the member can call the resort and change the ressies.

you need to contact ebay to get this persons phone #.

did you have a contract with this member? concerning if you cancel your trip.

although MS has been very good with cancelation due to the hurricanes, its not really a guarantee that MS will always give back the points.

i hope the member is honest enough to let you know and you are not out your money.

when making any kind of arrangements on renting , won an auction on ebay always get the persons info, and if the person doesnt want to give his/her info out dont follow thru with the deal.

good luck to you and your family.

if i were you i would try to find a way to florida and use your ressies, it may not be that bad, and disney didnt get much damage from the last ones and disney was very good to their guest.

Boy did I learn that!
I think I actually did have their phone # at one time but we have since moved & I NEVER thought anything would happen so I can't find it. My bad!

At this point I am booked on an earlier fight - still trying to get there, but I am worried about the loss of electricity & being stuck in a room (albeit a 2bedroom villa!) with 2 cranky kids!

Hopefully this was rented from a member and not an exchanger. It will depend on several variables but I'd cancel if you are certain you are not going. Remember, technically, cancellation on the day of arrival forfeits the first days points. What happens will depend on the choices MS makes, the points use year, your agreement with the person and their willingness to work with you. Technically an ebay auction would be a final transaction but I'd think most members would be willing to work with you on this subject to the limitations of the points involved. If it's an exchange, you'll very likely be out of luck I'm sure. A couple of ways to tell would be if it's for 7 days and if you have paperwork that's directly from II, not DVC.

Your post makes me worry it's an exchange because it suggests you'd be leaving today and no way you'd be able to rent a 2 BR including the weekend for $1500 from a member except in an extreme fire sale situation or where it's a friend or family member one were just doing a favor. Good luck, I hope it works out.

It is a DVC'er. I was supposed to come in on Sun (staying Sun thru Thurs - 150 points/$10 per point) but due to the weather I was able to get an earlier flight & found a room at the Embassy Suites near DTD for tonight. My confirmation is thru DVC so hopefully everything will work out.

Just a hunch but maybe if you look in your sent EMAIL you may find the Phone#.

3DisneyNUTS says
"Fill out the need member info form on ebay and it will giove you their phone # they listed with ebay.
scroll down to contact info and follow the directions their info will be mailed to you."

GREAT, thanks I'll try it!

Unfortunately I moved & no longer have that email account. :(

lenshanem says "Hope it gets worked out Erin!"

Shan, you are following me around the DIS!!! :)

I THINK everything will work out. Worst case scenario I am out $300 for one night. Just changed everything to come in on Mon (so Jeanne, you better be gone!). I am still trying to reach the DVC member & I will happily try to find someone to take those 30 points so I can be refunded my money! So many people on these boards searching for points, hopefully it will not be a problem.
Thanks to all who responded!

I meant emailed to you LOL you will have it in a few seconds :)

At this point (unles I misread your posts), you were able to change flights so you can probably get to WDW without incident.

While it certainly wouldn't be my "first choice" for a vacation visit, I think you'll be perfectly safe as far as food, water, electricity, etc. WDW did not lose power (a few flickers) during Charley or Frances. The eye of Jeanne is still predicted to skirt the East Coast of FL, and it has sustained winds of 105mph.

To be sure, you will have some very un-Disney weather...and maybe even a little scary. But if you do decide to go, you should be fine.

All you can do now is wait until you are able to contact the owner you've rented from.

Best wishes whatever you decide to do, and if you do go, have a safe, though rather adventurous, trip.

FWIW -- I wouldn't worry too too much about the electricity thing. You're staying at Disney -- they WILL take good care of you. We should know -- they took care of us during Charley! We were at BWV... and we NEVER lost power. Disney was smart -- they put their lines underground, I understand.

Just a quick update:
The DVC'er called me! She was happy to call the hotel to confirm the cancellation (since technically it needs to be cancelled by the DVC member) & she will resell the points & reimburse me!
All's well that ends well. Now lets hope Mean Jeanne comes & goes so I can make my trip on Monday!!

So glad this got resolved! Enjoy your trip, even if it is a wet one! ((((hugs))))

Glad you were able to get it worked out! Now I just hope both of us are able to fly in tomorrow!

We're now forced to wait until Tuesday to leave for the vacation that should have started today. However, the good news is that, when I called SSR to let them know, the resort staff got MS on the line to tell me the points would be restored to my account. So it looks like Disney has pulled MS people in on the weekend during the storm to put our minds to rest during a stressful but "out of our control" time. I was very appreciative. We may not get there until Tuesday but at least we'll have our two days of points for another time. :( :)
