If Airline Goes Out Of Business ?

Re: my tickets on FLYI. My tickets are for spring break.

I called my CC company yesterday and they are putting the charge in dispute now. They are going to investigate and let me know in 6-8 weeks. I don't have to pay the charge on my next statement so hopefully I have some chance of getting my money back. I've got my fingers crossed!

Thanks for all of the information everyone has provided! It prompted me to call the CC!

I agree with Carol. If your flight has not been cancelled yet, it's going to be difficult to get your money back on a dispute.

I've been flying alot on business and most flights have been close to full. So if a major airline would quit flying, there are not going to be many seats open to take additional passengers. The flight I took last night EWR/PIT on USAir was overbooked by 2 passengers (they got volunteers).

I am now just sick with worry. We have tickets on Delta, purchased in early February!! To rebook on another airline will be over $3000, plus the loss of our other tickets (about $1200), but I believe those might be covered by our trip insurance (I specifically asked our travel agent when we booked, and she said our air flights were covered)

But, it will add 2K to our trip, plus we'll be flying Southwest, which has significantly worse flight schedules, plus the whole preboarding nightmare and the fight for seats. I purposely purchased on a carrier with assigned seats. Our other option is America West, but I know they tend to cancel flights and rebook you.

I am thinking I should be fully refundable seats for December 17-27, does anyone have an opinion about this?

I would not panic yet.

DL has NOT gone out of business and I personally think that they will get thru this. I think that even if they "threaten strike" DL will get a 30 day cooling off period which will take them until January. I would wait until next week to see what happens. I have tickets over Christmas on them using frequent flyer miles and I am not doing anything right now.

I'm with the others about IA. You won't have much luck with that until they actually do go out of business.

I had a free flight with them and I booked it for December 17. I was going January 13 but the indications are that the airline won't make it long into the new year. The worst part was trying to move my DVC reservation. I'm in three different rooms now in two different resorts, but darn it, I am getting my free flight... and more time to check out the Christmas decorations, too.

Member Services was great about finding the rooms for me, by the way. I even saved 4 points.
