If a stranger asked to give your child

I've always brought extra glow items to the parks and my DD loves to hand them out. I make sure that she asks the parents first before approaching the children. She would say something like, "I've got an extra glow bracelet. Would your daughter/son like to have it?" We've always had good responses.
My DD was a little apprehensive the first time she did it, but once she got over her shyness about talking with a parent, she spent most of her evenings trying to find children who didn't have glow items. What a nice way to spend the evening ... sharing.

Our next trip will include DS, I hope he gets into the glow item giving mood too!

I might think it was a little odd if they didnt have kids themselves. But I doubt I would say no over a glow stick.

usually my daughter, if she sees a child or especially a girl and they are interacting, she will ask me if she can give her something. I will say ask their mommy/daddy, which she does, then gives it to the child...

I got a whole bunch but i have it a little easier as i will just let my daughter give them away so it won't seem so creepy

Also a heads up! I went to CVS yesterday to pick up some meds.. :sad2: and they had some packs of like 20 bracelet/necklaces for like 1.99. I'm thinking of going back and picking up a set or two..:rolleyes1... so my DS can share the happiness when we go in 1 1/2 week!!:cheer2:
PS-Dollar Tree has them as well, but I thought a pack of 20 for 1.99 was such a better deal!!

I bought some glow bracelets today at Michaels. They're $1 for a pack of 15. That's by far the best deal I've found (Dollar tree is 8/$1).

On a side note, I picked up 10 packs to hand out to trick-or-treaters. Last year we had so many kids come to our door that I was running out of candy. We had two packs of glow bracelets left over from a friend's bonfire, so I cracked those open. I told kids they could pick a bracelet OR a piece of candy, and every single kid picked a bracelet until they were gone. :thumbsup2

I agree, if I am asked first if dd could have a glow stick I would say of coarse! and thank you. DD is very leary of strangers so anyone who came up to her, she would hide behind me anyway. Its so nice when people do that, at Disney it just makes it more magical.

I always ask the parents first, then we share. If someone wants to give my child something I would prefer they ask me first. :)

What I did on our cruise last month was to activate the glow sticks and make bracelets. I wore them, then when we were in the Pirate night party, I gave them out to kids standing with their parents.
We were at a table for 8 in the dining room, all adults, so I bought the tube with the glow sticks and gave them to the adults to make their own necklaces or bracelets. Big hit with the big kids and the little kids. We had fun.

We just did this two weeks ago. Every night on the way home on the buses either waiting in line or on the actual bus. I had kids, but everyone was appreciative except for the one mom whose son broke his light stick and had glow stuff on his arm! Just watch the ages that you give them to!

My girls ( 24 & 16) love to do this. We buy them all year at the dollar store and the girls put them all up and down their arms and then they pile on a bunch of necklaces and they run around the parks at night and enjoy the rides and shows and handing out glow bracelets and necklaces all over the place. They especially like to give them to children having a meltdown because their parents won't buy them a glow thing from the cart or little kids who are tired and getting whinny in line for something. It is a lot of fun for them and a big part of their trip.

Sorry, just getting back to the boards. Thank you everyone for your encouragement to go with my gut feeling to try again this year. I'm so excited to get there!

We just bought a huge package of bracelets at Michaels last night for my niece to give out at the parks at night.

i would ask first since some parents dont let there kids have glow sticks. My best freind wont let ANY of her 4 have glow sticks since the three year old bites them open (then glows). She freaks out every time.

a glow stick, would you let them accept it? We are going to the world at the end of the month and I was thinking of bringing glow sticks. We have no kids but we love to watch their faces light up. Some parents have looked at us like we're nuts but it's something we like to do. Last year we got a lot of leary parents.

WWYD? Thanks
We did this last year with extra i had i did not want to bring home i ask the parents can the kids have it if they said yes i gave if not i said have a magical day.

We have taken them each trip and made sure we had extras for any children nearby who would also like one. My kids had alot of fun handing them out to other children. We have never had anyone not accept or seem offended. I know I would appreciate it if I forgot the sticks and someone else offered one to my child.

i think this is a great idea!!! Last trip I had someone give my DD a balloon they were leaving and couldnt take it on the plane. She was so happy and her eyes really did light up. It was really nice because i wouldnt spend $10 on one. hahah

Hi
I love giving out the glowsticks. My DGD gave some to some children while we were waiting for Fantasmic to start. The kids looked so happy to have them. I asked the parents first if it was ok, and they looked so surprised that we would give their kids something. It was fun!!
