how likely is it that you'll get it?

I've been really hoping for a room with a patio or balcony, but then last night I began wondering if they even have garden view rooms with patios or balconies (or if just the upgraded rooms have them). I called to ask and the reservationist said they didn't have any with patios and only a few with balconies. She asked for my reservation info and then told me to wait a few minutes. BTW, we have reserved two connecting rooms (1 king and 1 2-queens). She said she found two connecting rooms in the West wing where one has a "Juliet balcony" (i.e. small, you can stand out there but that's it) and that she was going to request them for us. She did, of course, say it wasn't a guarantee.

I was surprised that she went to the trouble she did and it was more than I expected or asked for. Now I'm wondering if when the hotel puts a specific request in like that, what's the likelihood you actually get it. And is there anything we can do to increase the likelihood? (Like maybe show up early??)

I would still call the hotel the week before and politely request again.

Either call or fax like Damo said.
This year they put my room request on my booking , but they gave me a completley different area to where room was requested, luckily we did get it sorted ,and got our room that we requested

2 years in a row I have called to make sure I have a sofa in our room. Both times they have told me yes you do only to get there and NO your room has no sofa but we will give you a roll away.Last year at Portofino and last week at the Royal Pacific.

It sounds like the room controllers do not know which rooms still have the pullouts.

Did you have a king room at the RP?

Yes we had 2 king rooms.I spoke to the hotel.I could hear him typing on his computer and then he said ok i have you in 2 kings both with a sofa.Last year at Portofino when I booked a 2 queen room(5 of us)she said I would have to have a room with a sofa .Got there no sofa so they gave us the roll away.Which is nice,i think better then sofa.

Whatever you do, don't fax a request like someone above mentioned. They will look at the fax and throw it away. I've worked in front office operations at other hotels (such as Disney) and I can tell you from prior experience. Also, there is no way to say how likely it is that a request will be fulfilled. it all depends on how many people are already staying in the hotel when you arrive, how many rooms are available, etc etc. Also when there are numerous families travelling together (esp at this time of year) and they *have* to have their rooms all together it REALLY limits your options. Also, a request like a balcony, or a patio, or a certain view is something that almost every person requests. You are definitely not alone in that one.
