I bought a new bathing suit with the skirt sort of attached. Don't think I'm going to fit into it. We are going to an indoor waterpark and would like to find some comfortable swim shorts to wear. Don't want to be constantly concerned with my cellulite and "not so fit mom" thighs while I'm trying to have fun with my kids. That fact that I am powder white this time of year is not helping. LOL. Any help would be great!!! Online shopping is best for me!

I'm sure I saw some swim shorts at Lands' End. You can get matching tops to make a suit or coordinated ones to make a different look. Not all the tops were biki tops, some were full length tops. Look there.

I've bought some of the tankinis from qvc before and am pretty happy with them

Please have fun with your kids. Don't be so concerned about how you look. You won't know anyone and really, no one is looking at you. They're all worried how fat they are. Yep, everyone's so worried about themselves that they don't look at others. Do you look at heavy or completely out of shape people?

Well, maybe. They make us look better, don't they? :)

Well, snap! I guess I get some karma points every time I leave the house. Glad to be of service...

To the OP: Lands End has a great selection of separates, including skirts and shorts. If you're more plus sized, www.lanebryant.com www.avenue.com and www.junonia.com all have swim shorts as well. Happy shopping!

Chadwicks also usually has swim shorts/tankinis/swim skirts.

I'm not really very shy about my body but I burn very easily so I like a suit with as much coverage as possible.

Years ago I bought a pair of Columbia shorts that were quick dry shorts (not sure of the technical name). I wore those over my one-piece because I don't like to ruin my suit bottom on slides/concrete etc. They dried in a few minutes. I wore my pair out!

I have a one piece and needed a pair of swim shorts in a hurry but couldnt find any and ended up buying a plain pair of black mens swim trunks and cut out the lining. I love em.

I have the Land's End skirt bathing suit with a tankini top. There are many companies out there that make them, but I love Land's End - they know how to make the most of what you have while hiding what you don't like. The suit has kept its shape really well, too. I can get a few year's wear out of one LE suit, which makes up for the price. The only drawback is that you have to get used to more material, I was used to a one piece, but after dd's birth, I just didn't feel comfortable, so I went with the skirt. It's a skirt, albeit a short one, but I remember feeling at first like I was swimming in clothes. I know LE have shorts, like OP said, and their return policy is good, too, JIC! Good luck and have fun!

Lands End all the way...I now will buy no other kind of swimsuit. I love their mix and match things as I too am not crazy about exposing my mom thighs! And their suits wear so well, I have had them for several seasons of beach and pool wearing and they don't fall apart like others.

They do have what they call a Sport Tankini I believe which is a nice top and shorts bottom or a skirt bottom as well I think. I got the shorts one a couple years back and it was great. I now own several different mix and match pieces and love the skirted bottoms. I just think they look classy and modest at the same time.

I also have to order for a long torso and LE is one of the few places that actually has that option to all their suits.

I highly recommend them, definitely worth their money.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for posting the Lands End links!!!! I am looking for a similar type of bathing suit for my Bahamas trip in May. I am on Weight Watchers right now, trying to get off 30 pounds of the baby weight that I haven't been able to take off yet!!! I doubt I will be able to take off that much by May, so I will need one of these suits.

The separates with the skirt are AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, can you get these suits at Sears (since they sell Lands End) or just in the Lands End catalog?

THANKS!!!!! :teeth:

Land's End, Land's End, Land's End. They're worth the price, fit true to size, and last for a long time. You can buy a few styles/sizes and return the ones you don't want to Sears. I love the skirted bottoms -- just waiting for them to come out with a sleeve to cover my wobbly arms!!

For the powder white skin, try the Jergen's natural glow moisturizer,it's very subtle, I think.

Have fun with the kids!!

I've tried several shorts. I think they are great, but one thing I would tell you to avoid is one with velcro! If it gets stuck to your suit - yuck!

Having said that, I bought a pair of board shorts last year. They were Billabong, I think. I found them actually at Universal Studios in Orlando. They weren't a bad price either. When I looked in Pac Sun though, not only did I feel old, but all they had was shorts with velcro. The Billabong shorts I bought were low rise and have nice long leg coverage. If you are in plus sizes around the middle, they might not be for you, as they don't hide belly rolls very well, but if leg coverage is your main concern - they will make you look younger!

This may be a painful suggestion - but I was not the 'exercise type' until about a year ago. In one month, you really could do a lot to tone up those thighs! And what a great motivational tool! A trip to Disney was actually one of the things that finally motivated me to do better for myself! It made a HUGE difference in my endurance while at WDW, too. And my legs were not nearly as sore as they used to be!

Oh my ABSOLUTE favorite bathing suit of all times I bought from Lands End last year:

This is the link to the Misses sizes, but they have Women's sizes and Long sizes ( :cool1: Which I am tall, so this was perfect for me!).

The reason I love this suit is not only do you have the shorts (and I like them to be seperate from the top so I don't have to pull off the top to go to the bathroom), but if you notice the neck is not low at all. You an bend over and you don't give a 'peep' show! It also holds you in place (and I am a full figured gal on top).

I also have another style from Lands End similar to this one, but I can't fit into it any more (I lost 70 pounds last year, so now my old suit falls off of me---that would not be good at all! :scared1:

It is nice too, but the neck is a little lower (not much, but a little), so I like the higher neck.

Either suit is great though!

I was just at JC Penney over the weekend and they have a nice selection of swim shorts in stock. I prefer to try my things on before I buy them.
HTH.
