IDs for cruise

I have a passport which I believe is the only form of ID that you need if you have one, however my wife has an org birth certificate, but she does not have a photo drivers license. She does have some other photo IDs, work related and such, but not a license. NJ has only recently really started pushing them. One TA I'm talking with thinks that will be an issue, that she MUST have a driver license photo ID. Anyone have any experience with this?

Also can anyone confirm that just a passport is enough, I don't need anything more also do I?

One other thing, my passport expires this year, July I think. I've seen somethings that it must be valid 6 months in the furture, so if traveling in Feb will this be an issue?

First off, as a fellow NJ'er, your wife is going to need a government issued photo id to be used for getting on a plane, and for getting on/off the ship. None of the work related id's are valid/government issued id's. She's going to have to go down to DMV (I know a FUN place) and get herself a photo license before you leave on your trip. I also didn't have a photo license for a time, but always had a passport, so it never was a problem.

Now for your passport, that's a grey area. Since you're not traveling to any countries where a passport is required (ie European country) it might be o.k. If you were planning on going overseas, it definately would be a problem. For the cruise, it may/may not be a problem, I'm not sure. If you have time (but seeing you're traveling in Feb probably not) I'd get it renewed to be sure. If you don't have time, I'd bring your drivers license and birth certificate to be safe, you don't want to get into problems trying to board the ship.

we used our passports exclusively on the cruise. no problem. actually probably made it easier.

If you are taking a DCL cruise you will be visiting ports that are not US. (Bahamas for starters) It is safer with a passport, but if there is no time to renew, then defintely call for other alternatives.

I agree with jel that your wife will need some form of govt. issued id. It can just be a state issued ID card, but it must have her photo on it. Not sure how if you want to, but received our passports back in less than 2 weeks when we applied for them. You can ask for an expedited process also if you wish. The passport you are probably safe with, but you will need to address your wife's issues. Call DCL.

Even if you have a passport, other credit card sized photo ID is a really good thing to take too. You really don't want to carry your passport off of the ship in port. You need your KTTW card and photo ID to leave and reboard the ship while in port.

The credit card sized photo ID and KTTW card fit nicely in lanyards (don't recommend the lanyard for holding these doc's while off of the ship) and they also fit in the water tight "box lanyards" DCL sells. We use the box lanyard when we go to the beach or on a snorkeling trip to keep our cards in (so they stay with us while in the water).

I've started wearing the lanyard while flying. With as many times as security wants to see your photo id, I have it handy without the hassel of getting it out of my bill fold (I usually try leaving behind the id or the bill fold - haven't had this problem with the lanyard).
