I am flying to Orlando in August via AirTran Airlines, with my 17 and 12 year old daughters. They have a different last name then me. I know the 17 year old can bring her drivers license., what should I bring for my 12 year old? She doesn't have a school id, The airline told me a birth certificate, but with our names being different I'm not sure that would work?? Any ideas, maybe get her a photo id, but not sure where to get one?

The birth certificate should be good enough. In PA you can get a photo ID at the same place you get drivers license. You might want to check in your state if they offer it at those locations.

My grandson has an ID just for this reason also. He got his first when he was 6. He travels to WDW with us often and I feel better that he has his own ID. He has gone to pin events at WDW and it makes it alot easier when he can verify that he is the person registered. He's now 9 and just got a renewed ID. Here in WV we get them from DMV. They cost $10 the first time and $5 to renew every 2 years. His fingerprint is on file in case he is ever missing, along with his photo. The folks at the airlines get a kick when he puts his ID on the counter when we check in. And with security and some flyers requesting ID, it's great that there is never a question. I know it's not required for kids, but this gives me peace of mine and I find $5 a year (or less) is worth the peace of mind.

We just came back from Orlando on Song Airlines, and they only asked to see ID for DH and myself. DS17 has a driver's license, but they didn't ask to see any ID of his at all. For DS11, I brought a copy of his birth certificate, but it they didn't ask for it. This was at both JFK in NYC and at MCO.
