Ideas to stay sane if we all lockdown again

I’m not pretending and living life as normal. But I am getting very tired of the double standard. Essentials have been going to work since Day 1. They include everything from grocery store baggers to physicians. But if those same people want to actually do something besides work then they get accused of being reckless by the people who are sitting at home telling themselves how many lives they’re saving. But their whole “stay home” plan is based on enough people going to work to support their new lifestyle.

I personally have no problem with people going out, it's been proven that masks work. Go out, but wear a mask. The double standard that I have is people who won't wear masks, but then require hospitalization-it's putting others (doctors, nurses) at risk due to a refusal to do a very simple thing-wear a mask.

Do you all saute it in garlic and onions? LOL, what the heck does everyone do with their toilet paper? I can only assume movie snacks, LOL. I opened an 18 pack on April 1st. I've used 3 rolls.

3 rolls since April 1st? Do you USE the bathroom? Do you work outside your home? Shop a lot and use the bathroom there, or maybe use a gym bathroom?

We have two adults and two kids, only one of whom is male (which makes a HUGE difference in amount of TP used). Work from home, and hybrid schooling means all four of us are at home the vast majority of the time. I would guess we go through 3 rolls of TP per week. I always seem to be changing the rolls.

How do you know with certainty it would end sooner if all we did is curtail gatherings and wear masks?

Your logic of providing the virus with a host yes that would check out for science, it's why ebola has such a high mortality rate. But curtailing gatherings and wearing masks would equate to the pandemic being over sooner is a whole different thing. Would it have the possibility of limiting spread? Yea I could get behind that, but that doesn't mean the end result is the virus would end sooner as in with 100% certainty.

I get the fatigue everyone is having but we should still be careful in how we word things.
Maybe it won't 100% end the pandemic but it would certainly buy some time until a vaccine can be made available. Once the majority of the people are vaccinated, the virus will have a tough time finding a host.

I was going to suggest maybe now is a time to consider making a list of things you can think of your house might need, touch ups here, a project there, maybe a room refresher like readjusting the furniture or getting new ones, a different color palette or mood, even a list of books you were meaning to get to reading or a collection of puzzles if that's your thing that you've been meaning to try.

That list could help you out for the coming months in just planning to get things in a timely manner but also looking forwards to something when boredom strikes. Usually that's my problem that when the mood strikes me to find something it's the finding something that becomes the issues lol.

The reason I suggested a room refresher is just because of the stress we've all been under, the sheer amount of time many of us have found ourselves at home staring at the things that we probably didn't even notice or just that you want this newer stay at home/closer to home (self-imposed or otherwise) to start off completely fresh rather than a repeat of spring and summer.

Best of luck to ya!
I just re-did our spare bedroom in Sherwin Williams Sea Salt and I find it to be such a soothing color. Looks greyish at times with just a hint of green. In the morning it's the most subtle soothing light green. I just love it. I was tired of painting bedrooms grey. I have one more to go and I may go for a similar shade but bluish grey rather than greenish grey.

You must use 2 ply. I think I use two squares when it's two ply. 8-12 if it's one ply, which is what I normally buy.

2 adult women in our household at the time. It really does make a difference.

Hence the reason I said we need to curtail gatherings and wear the masks. Where did I say it would magically go away? Why can’t common sense prevail here and people just do their part to help stop it spreading and more dying needlessly. If we don’t provide it a host, it WILL go away. No magic in that. That is pure science and basic common sense.
To me, it’s not so much a question of being safe, but more getting this stupid pandemic over and done with. If people would curtail gatherings and just wear the masks, the virus would end sooner since we wouldn’t continually being providing it a host. But that won’t happen because people won’t. Seems logical to me, but apparently a huge portion of the population don’t agree and want to pretend they can live life as normal.

I agree with the basic premise of what you are saying. Obviously, there will be people who have to go to work unless there is a lockdown where no one goes anywhere. That is just the nature of this thing. Is it fair? Of course not. life isn’t fair.

But I do think both groups of people, those at work and those at home, can and should at this point curtail all the unnecessary gatherings and “beers after work” mentality for now or this thing will never end and a lot more will die needlessly. Yes, life must go on. But there are certainly ways we can all do our part to help stop the spread, but people don’t care enough to do that. Until if affects them personally.

This thing will never end. The end result is going to be an annual vaccine. It is never going to go away.

Essential people who are going to work are, for the most part, doing their part by wearing masks. It is already affecting them personally. They too have parents, children, and all the other reasons that everyone else uses. And no, during a lockdown - they still go to work.

Can you truly tell me that everything you’ve ordered online is necessary? If you can’t truly say it is then you have caused “unnecessary gatherings” for other people.

I personally have no problem with people going out, it's been proven that masks work. Go out, but wear a mask. The double standard that I have is people who won't wear masks, but then require hospitalization-it's putting others (doctors, nurses) at risk due to a refusal to do a very simple thing-wear a mask.

Going out pretty much requires a mask anyway. I know I see a few people from time to time without one but for the most part, people are complying either because they already want to wear one or because it’s hard to find any store/venue which doesn’t require one.

I bought a 60 roll pack on April 3, that's been gone for at least a month now. Four adults, three of them women, using it.

That particular bit wasn’t my comment. I personally wouldn’t go so far as to say some of what was in that post, especially in such a forceful manner. I would say though that your choice of the word “mentality” is a good one. We now seem to be at a point where what one thinks or perceives is more important than what’s really happening.

The beers-after-work example is a great one to ponder. Here we have the concept of “cohorts” as defined by our public health authorities. A cohort being a small group that regularly and perhaps unavoidably meets together for work or family-related reasons. Once a cohort is established, what those people do together really doesn’t matter, does it? A meeting in the office is no more or less risky than going out for lunch (both of which are allowed under our local restrictions with the condition of masking and personal distancing).

This is all somewhat subjective based on each of our local conditions and the restrictions in place. It does seem to me though that some people who, for their own reasons (that I would never question or disrespect), feel it necessary to go beyond what’s officially recommended and required, then view those who “only” conform to the rules as reckless and that’s unfair.

ETA: And I personally am getting tired of being labeled a Covid denier because it “hasn’t hit close to home”. I have not nor do I intend to violate one single, solitary regulation that has been put in place - I conform to everything. That’s the very definition of doing my part, regardless of whether or not I join a colleague for a drink after work once in a while.

My county just voted to lift the mandatory mask rule so we'll be down to "highly recommended" on Oct.31st.

Don't know if you know this or have a tablet to read from, or want to do this on your phone or PC, the Free Library of Philadelphia has one of the most extensive eBook library collections in the U.S. at over 56,000 eBooks. :thumbsup2

Note that they did away with the cards for out of state residents. I used to have their card and last year they announced they wold no longer allow OOS people to renew so they could focus their efforts and money on residents. Bummer.

My son's bathroom goes through maybe one roll a month.
DH and I go through at least 2 a week with him home. It was about a roll a week, when he worked in his office. He will use half the roll, I swear, to blow his nose, ignoring the tissue boxes that are sitting on the bathroom counter, coffee table, and his computer desk......

Logically thinking it would go away quicker. If it has no hosts to continue spreading it will, therefore, end sooner rather than later. Continuing to gather in crowds and not wear masks provides a free for all for it to spread. To me that is basic common sense. It is also what experts have been saying all along. If a virus has no host, it will end. Pretty simple.
It appears you may not remember what you said :flower3:

I clearly never questioned the host comment, I questioned the comment in bolding. It's exactly why I said we need to still be careful about how we word things. People are speaking like they know without a doubt what will make the virus just up and disappear. It's unfortunately that sort of thinking that leads to people having a sort of feeling towards other people, just like what the other poster was talking about.

Logically you and I both agree that removing a host will eventually lead to the virus not having a way to survive at least right now (not talking extinction level stuff). But you very pointedly claimed that it would go away sooner If people would curtail gatherings and just wear the masks, the virus would end sooner. You don't actually know that (and neither do the scientists at this point, it's a new virus that we are constantly learning about) but because you believe that it is affecting how you view people who do.

I'm actually buying winter gear. After years of hibernating and traveling to get out of the cold, I'm preparing to brave outdoor time in the snow and ick in case travel isn't smart or possible.

My dining room is still set up as a craft/study room from early this year, so I'll likely do some more sewing. And of course, if DD12 ends up out of school again, I'll be back to semi-homeschooling too.

If we go full lockdown again, I think I'm going to get back into World of Warcraft. I haven't played regularly in a while but as far as indoor amusements, it was one of my favorites for a very long time.

And I may or may not have classes to fill some of my time too, depending on what decision I make about my masters.

There's a new expansion due out any day now (hahahahaha). Was supposed to come out this month, but has been postponed. Lots of changes, levels have been squished, and a lot of new options for character looks.

And see I don't disagree with that. I think that is a MUCH better viewpoint. Totally different in saying it can help, it can perhaps give more time compared to saying it would end sooner if you did those two things.

Never work on company time, never poop on your own, hahaha. No, that is not the mantra I chant at work. I can never get into the bathroom at work because of those that do. One guy spends 3 hours every morning, literally. His phone isn't on his desk, he's in the bathroom with it... for hours.

I would only use the bathroom at work or in public if it's an emergency situation. But it is just me at home and occasionally my daughters. The one in community college will be at my place between classes and after class, but she only goes in for one class and the rest is online this year.

I made a mistake. I had a leftover Scotts that I used up, so 4 rolls.

Always used Scotts because we had a septic, so when I got divorced and had city water/sewage, I continued with Scotts. I was able to snag the 18 pack of Angel Soft because that's all that was available and that's the one thing this pandemic has done for me. Converted me away from Scotts, LOL.

I really like grey but I agree on getting tired of it, it's like how taupes and tans were the predominant wall color. I think the color you chose (I looked it up) is very pleasing. Calming, a touch of something different and yet still easy to complement with other decor. A bluish grey sounds wonderful as well for that other room! Calming, soothing and relaxing is really what I think so many of us need right now :)
