Ideas to make Disney more "special" to 6 yr old DD??

I read a post that someone said they left little gifts from "tinkerbelle"
I plan on doing the Mickey wake up call.

We are staying at POP in September. DD is very timid and crowds bother her a little bit. I just wanted to take some of the stress of her and give her some Disney magic.

As an adult that is "people claustrophobic" ( a word I made up on my own), I hate crowds, I hate people bumping into me constantly, and I hate feeling like I have people on top of me, I can completely understand. For the longest time we wouldn't go to Disney World during busy times of the year, only January and September. It was the only way to avoid those situations that made me horribly uncomfortable. However, last year I started using Tour Guide Mike, and let me tell you he has been a miracle worker. Thanks to his touring plans we literally avoid the crowds almost completely. It may be worth checking into. Nothing can make someone grumpy faster than being uncomfortable and having to wait in long lines.

Something that will also get her excited about going to WDW is to get a Fairy GodMailer to send her a postcard from one of the characters saying how they can't wait to see her. If she is interested get her an autograph book, if she is a bit nervous about the characters this might help.

We took our DD when she was 6 also and I can't tell you how special the Tinkerbelle gifts were to her. She actually knelt down in Tinkerbelle's Treasures and whispered (so she wouldn't hurt Tink's ears) to Tinkerbelle how special she is to her and thanked her... all her own doing and idea.

She also LOVED pin trading... she was very shy about CMs and I think that this is one of the best things that this age of child can do in Disney to come out of their shell and do something really fun. Buy a whole bunch cheap on eBay or get the coupons from the specially marked boxes of cereal for free Disney pins from DTD or the free pins on the Energizer batteries and let her go crazy with them. SO fun!

Autographs were alao a very big deal. Having her own Disney Dollars were very special to her.

I'm sure that no matter what your DD will feel the Disney Magic! Have a great trip!

Creative Memories has a small (6X6) disney scrapbook that I brought to the park and used as an autograph book. I had the characters sign various pages, leaving room to add pictures of DD with the characters when we got home. With the photos added, it's a great reminder of the fun we had at the park.

In Mickey's toon town, in the store, just inside the door on the right, there are lines for Character viewings. You wait in line to see the characters that you want to see (there are usually 3 lines to choose from, with 3 or so characters in each) They only let about 6 families in the room at a time and usually there's a photographer in the room taking photos of the kids with the characters. I never wait in the lines around the park to see the characters, I prefer this setting, it's inside, cooler, out of the sun and a more more relaxed setting to see the characters.

I think it is a nice idea to get a small autograph book from Dollar Tree and Disney stickers and decorate the pages for each character to sign. It really makes the autograph thing a winner. If you want an "official" autograph book, you could take the stickers in your luggage and do this at the hotel.

Another idea I like is to send a postcard on the day that you leave to your home from "Mickey" telling your daughter thank you for visiting him.

I must agree with the autograph book. My 6 year old son is typically not a real "joiner". I've often called it "slow to warm up" also. But, he is all about the autographs! We snap a picture of him with the character then glue it in the autograph book next to the signature at home. We have very fat autograph books, this being our third year! You do need to be on the ball about handing the character the book on the correct page to keep room for the photos. Save the first page for Mickey and alway have a pen!

I forgot to mention. As the other posters mentioned you can get the books lots of places. They sell Disney ones for around $6 at carts right in MK. It's a good idea to make sure your pen is a nice high quality one to get the nicest looking signatures.

This reminds me of last year when my DD was 6 and it was her first Disney trip. THere were a series of what we called "mousings" (from Mickey of course) every day after we left the room. I found some discounted small stuffed Disney animals/characters before we left and she got one to match each park that we went to that day. A few other trinkets were left like Disney Dollars and little trinkets that I bought before we left. Much cheaper to bring some than count on paying more at Disney.

To this day she still asks me how Mickey knew she was there

We took our DD when she was 3 and then again when she was 5 and she had a ball. One of the things that we did was character dining. On the first trip, we did the Crystal Palace so we could see Pooh Bear and we did a lunch over at The Land with Mickey. Then, the next time we went, we went to Chef Mickey's. I would have to say that was the most fun of the character breackfast's that I have done.

My daughters loved picking out a fan at the China pavillion in Epcot. They personalized it with their name written in Chinese.

My girls also loved the Kidcot stations at Epcot.

i got these for my girls as a welcome gift. I emailed the person and made it minnie instead of Minnie because my kids love minnie. She lives nearby so maybe she could put something together for you.

We did the disney princess tea party, adventures in cooking, mad hatters tea party, and the pirate cruise, and mickey's backyard bbqover the last three visits. My dd loved going and building a cup at goofys candy store in dd. she adored the pin trading. She also really liked getting her hair wrapped!

At the Dollar store>buy a bunch of glow-in-the-dark necklaces or bracelets & wands. Your DD can wear & carry some herself & give away some to other children spreading the magic!
Are you handy at sewing? or even stitch-witch? whip up a few princess costumes for DD to wear at the park. These could be presented to her, one at a time, at the hotel in the am or the night before a big day in the parks. Don't forget a tiara!
For the pin collecting: get a cigar box, line with 1/4 inch cork(available @ craft stores) & go to town dressing it up with fabric scraps. For $10.00 there is a box for pins they sell at the pin stations, but they are not as sturdy, or as nice looking as the homemade type. After a day of trading DD can have some fun putting her pins away--
Buy her a few disposeable cameras--also available in digital, if desired--later she can work on her very own scrapbook!
Begin to look for 'Hidden Mickeys' there is also a slender paperback for sale at the parks on this subject--you can also purchase from amazon.com.
Am excited just thinking about what a fun time yr family will enjoy!

We also did something similar to the above thread. When we took our daughter the first time at the age of 5, we would go on "special walks". She would put her pajamas on and get ready for bed, we would go on alittle walk outside, around the hotel and look at the stars. I would make sure I was the last out for the walk. The first night, I layed a Minnie doll and a few Disney candies on her bed. After that, we left some trinkets, along beside her Minnie doll. Another fun part of it, we would lay her Minnie doll somewhere different in the room. some of the things would be princesses items. She thought this was the best, she thought that the characters came to the room just for her. And on one occassion, at Chef Mickey's, when Minnie came up to sign her autograph book, she asked Minnie if she had left the things in her room, Minnie shook her head and laughed. Moments on the camcorder were priceless. Her eyes were so big!!! This gave her more of an incentive to go up to the characters. She wasn't shy after that!

There is a thread on the "Theme Park Attractins and Strategies" board entitled "PAY IT FORWARD"- there are folks who are volunteering to send postcards from WDW to you. Just find someone on the thread who is going between now and your dates, PM them with your info, and they will be happy to do it for you! I'd do it, but we aren't going until October- I am doing some for a few other families, though.

WE had Tinkerbelle gifts last year...

I had bought some little things (Dinsey related) at the dollar store. I ordered a bag of treats from Disneyflorist dot com.. now I've seen Peggy's Sweets (feralpeg here on the Dis) I would use her in a heartbeat!! They deliver to the resort you're staying at, I planned for our 2nd day, so I check in get a room, and then tell the desk before we leave for the parks, I"m expecting a delivery, can it be put in our room while we're out (I hear sometimes they cant do this, you have to pick it up at the desk)

I always woke up first, and just put things on the end of her bed - a Stitch stuffed animal she admired, a Princess Aurora Tiara, plus the things I bought from the DIsney store before we left, every day, something new and different!!

Yup... that's what we do (it's like the Tooth Fairy or Santa). Actually, Mickey is the one who comes to our room to leave presents.
