Hey!!

We set sail on my mother's b'day (Nov. 12th on Wonder) and we return on my parent's anniversary (Nov. 19th). What does DCL do to acknowledge special events? Do I need to call the res. hotline to arrange something for the b'day since it will be the day we leave or do I wait to speak to the matre’d as soon as I get on board? Any suggestions to make these two occasions special for them would be great!!!

Thanks!!!

Last summer we boarded on DH's 40th birthday. I ordered the birthday room decorations which were a nice surprise for dh and ds. I also created many, many door magnets (40 was a theme!). These magnets made it easy to find our room. I was able to sneak away and put them on our cabin door before dh got there. Surprisingly he left them up the entire trip.

Your servers will also bring a birthday cake at dinner (you may have to remind them of the birthday). We were also on board for our anniversary and got a cake at dinner.

Have a great time!

I wondered the same thing...We aren't cruising til oct 2006, but we are celebrating my mom's and dh birthday, and also our 10th anniv. But none of the dates falls when we are actually on the cruise. Is there any way they would still acknowledge it? We are sailing on oct 29....both bdays are oct 25, and our anniv. is nov 9. We will be in disney world for our anniv so that is exciting too!!

How did you request the cake? We will be setting sail the night of our 10th anniversary. I contacted dcl about getting a cake for us at dinner that night, and they told me that we could get a slice of wedding cake for $3.99. I really wanted a small cake just for our family. Not just slices. TIA

How strange. I've never heard that before. When we were on board they were celebrating all manner of birthdays and anniversaries with cakes they seemed to have in stock. There was no charge for the cakes. You would either inform your TA/DCL who can note it on your reservation and/or get in touch with your head server on the first night of the cruise and let him know what's going on. He'll take care of it for you--that's what your $6.75 per week is for!

Thanks. :flower: I will make sure my TA has the info about our anniversary on our reservation. I too thought that was kind of weird.

Our TA had made a note of birthday & anniversary but I also made sure to mention it to our waitstaff. They always seemed to know about it but I wanted to be sure. In fact on our 1st cruise we ate at Palo on our anniversary so our server asked us if we wanted the cake the day before.

That is whacky bannanas! No way do you have to pay for a celebration cake. No way do you have to pay for any food while cruising (ya, ya, I know the exceptions - but not this type of food). Just tell your head server and your waitstaff about the celebrations - let them surprise you. Also let your room steward know.

We were on the July 2 West Coast cruise. We celebrated 3 occasions- 2 birthdays and my parent's 50th anniversary. Their anniversary was in Sept 04 but the cruise was in 05. There was no charge for the cake for any of the occasions. They even wrote Happy 50th anniversary on the cake. The cakes are a good size- we had a party of 12 nad ther was still cake left over. Just remind your server the first night when you would like to do the celebrations.
