Hate to spend all day sitting in the airport in Orlando. We will have a rental car, please help me with ideas of something to do the day we disembark. Thanks.

We are big Polynesian fans- we head over for lunch, shopping, Trader Sam's. Might even resort hop. There is Disney Springs or hitting the beaches in Cocoa.

After our last cruise we drove over to the Orlando Science Museum. It has reciprocal admission with many other science centers, so it was free to us as members of the Virginia Science Museum. It makes for a nice change of pace activity, and has a parking garage connected to it, as well as a Subway in its basement for lunch.

I'd look at some of the things to do in/near Cocoa Beach. It's about 45 minutes to Disney Springs, then 45 minutes to an hour from there to MCO. It's also about 45 minutes from Cocoa Beach to MCO, but it's right near PC.

We purposely booked late flights so we could spend the day at Disney Springs. We had lunch at Homecoming and walked around for hours. It was a great day!

Use a day rate at the Hyatt? The rooms are comfortable, there are a lot of good food options and they have a nice pool.

Disney Springs. There is so much to do...bowling...movies! Shopping and food. Everytime you turn around there is a new restaurant or shop opening up.

My family and I always fly out of Orlando to NYC in the evening so that we can squeeze in as much Disney as we can. On our last day, and since we too have a rental, we get FP's at a park in the morning before resort checkout. We then head back to the resort, wash up, and get everything in the car. From there, we'll either hit a resort or Disney Springs for lunch. After that, we usually have a few hours to spare. This year we went to MK for FP's in the morning, We went back to the resort to wash up and pack the car. From there, we went to Disney Springs for lunch at Wolfgang Puck Express and then headed to EPCOT for snacks that we had left over from our dining plan. All the while, keeping a close eye on the time of course. But since our flight wasn't until 6pm, I thought that heading to the airport at 2:45/3:00ish would be OK.

After EPCOT, we drove around Celebration for a bit and then headed back to Disney Springs. We walked around for a while, went into the shops, and took a nice long leisurely stroll through the entire area. Then the doom and gloom of leaving set in and we had to go. Only to get to the airport and find out that our flight was delayed 2 hours!!!!!!!!!

Just plan something and enjoy the day before going to the airport. There is plenty that you can do. Next year on our last day we're getting on the balloon at Disney Springs...it used to be called Characters in Flight. Have fun!

The Florida Mall is very near the airport. You could go there, if you don't want to go over to WDW.

Also, if you are game for the extra 20 minutes, you could just go to one of the water parks. What do you all enjoy doing normally?

We really enjoyed Gatorland when we were last in this situation. Small, reasonably-priced theme park that was actually really fun and my kids really liked seeing all the alligators in the park!

OMG!!! I was tired just reading this thread!!

We always have evening flights back to West Coast on debarkation day so we have done most of the above activities. Our favorites were Kennedy Space center (easily a whole day and opened at 9 am) and Orlando Science museum. This year we drove to the International drive/Orlando convention center where we spent several hours at Wonder Works which has semi-educational entertainment/games and rides, indoor ropes course, and laser tag. We had as much fun as Boys (11 and 6) did. There is pizza on the premises but tons of places to eat nearby as well as huge parking garage. We have also done the day room at the airport Hyatt which has a decent gym and decent pool.

We would visit Disney Springs if we had time to kill before our flight. It is only 20-25 minutes from MCO and now that there have been so many changes you fill find plenty to keep you busy until time to leave for the airport.

We love to do the day at Typhoon Lagoon - still have the Disney atmosphere and a good distraction from the post-cruise blues. You can leisurely ride from port to there and arrive as it opens, and after 4-5 hours of fun there, you can shower in the locker rooms and head to the airport.
