We've booked a villa for Sept'Oct 06. DS2 is due to have test surgery in August this year, with if all goes well more surgery hopefully in the Autumn. This will be followed up with 3 weekly trips back to Nottingham(we're in Devon!) for the next 3 to 6 months for top up to the new pump.

This holiday will be a well done and hurry up and get stonger bribe!!!

The last holiday was meant to be the last one as getting all DS2 kit out there was daunting however having done it ,it wasn't too bad I just needed to be super organised.

Anyway We will want to do all the favorites but this time not at a commando rate and take in some new things too.

DS2 is in a wheelchair loves all things Disney/Universal. We have done Dis Cove and Sea World/Busch Gardens and will do them again cherry picking the best bits.

We wants some new ideas and alternatives to mull over and to give DS2 to think about over the Autumn/Winter

Thanks

Karen

Hi Karen,

Karen in Broadclyst here

Have you got the WDW & Seaworld DVDs? Would it cheer him up to have them to watch while he is recuperating? Then he could pick out stuff he wants to do as well?

Cheers

Hi Guys

DS2 will be 18 in 5 weeks, but is small for his age and has mild learning difficulties due to his disablities, love anything trains or Thunderbirds. And is very fond of tall, blonds!!! Although Jasmine was his fav last year.

Hi Miffy

We do have the WDW dvd but not the Seaworld one so will watch out for the advert on the TV

What about the illuminations cruise...... And/or a couple of nights on site / a disney cruise.....

This would really give him something to look forward to if you haven't done it before.

Even a nite on site at Universal so that you have front of the line access.

I also like the other Karen's idea of letting him do some planning via the videos. It would certainly help pass the time while he's recuperating.

Hopefully some others will also come up with ideas... :wave2:

Karen, I'm sure I ordered the Seaworld planner off the website Seaworld.com. This was last year though so maybe not anymore.

Hi Nordicpollan , p.m. me and I'll send you the anhauser busch promo dvd, have them in work (I'm a travel agent) and will be happy to do that for you and your son.

Hi Lynn, We have decided we will book a few days on site thinking of AKL

I will have to look in the cruise as I,m not sure if any of the boats are wheelchair accessible, although Stu is at the monent small enough to lift it can be uncomfortable for both of us to have him balanced on our laps. Fimgers crossed this will be easier after his Ops :cool1:

Thanks again for all the ideas

The boat called the Breathless is not wheelchair accessible, as it is a speedbaot. The other cruise boats are pontoon boats (they have a flat platform where you sit and the "floating part" of the boat is hollow pontoons).
If you decide to try a cruise, be sure to ask, but you should be able to put the wheelchair right on.

If you return at a different time of year and if he enjoys the swimming aspects of things you could see if your dates worked for swimming with manatees. Here's a link to one of the companies that work out of Crystal River http://birdsunderwater.com/

A trip to Cirque Du Soleil is a possibility, if there are any US sports he likes options are basketball ( Magic) , football Tampa Bay Bucs, Baseball Devil rays ( Tampa ) obviously these all have different seasons, so check the available sports.

Other ideas are to try some of the Disney "back stage tours" (or even BG/SW offer "back stage programs") These can run anywhere from $10 up to $200 depending on what you're looking at. If you're looking to "cherry pick" these are some of the sweetest offerings LOL.

Things to look up are the "garden tour" at the land in Epcot, "Keys to the Kingdom" @ MK , dolphin dive at Epcot ( LivingSeas) , shark dive at SW , tour AK back stage areas, BG have a "feed the giraffe (or other animals) safari". There are MANY many things to do that are a little out of the ordinary.

A dawn balloon trip over Orlando, helicopter ride maybe even a trip up in a plane with the "warbirds" crew in Kissimmee.

Thank you for these ideas, certainly things to think about.

I would like to book a Segway tour for Hubby and DS1 as they are going to really have to fit in and around DS2 hospital trips.

We are off to Nottingham next Saturday as they are having an open day all about the Operation DS2 is having and by luck we are booked in at Little Bridge House :sunny: (our local childrens hospice) for a long weekend so DS2 is going to stay there whilst Hubby and I tootle up to Nottingham for the day.

Keep the Ideas coming

Karen :cheer2:
