I know this is not related to Disney but I don't have any other place to turn to that will offer me so much wonderful advise. My father has asked me to scrap his army pictures. These are from the late 50- early 60's. They are black and white pictures. I am planning on using black pages. I draw a blank from there. I am not sure how to go about it. Does anyone know where I could see some layouts on this subject? Thanks much. Cheri

Hot Off The Press has some great paper for Black & White Photos. I believe their website is www.hotoffthepress.com. The papers are called vintage papers. The also have a book of military papers.

If you go over to www.twopeasinabucket.com or www.dmarie.com and do a layout search for black & white or military layouts, you will get some great ideas as well.

You could use diecuts such as dog tags, which make great journaling icons, tents, jeeps, etc.

I think you could integrate colored background into the layouts - which would make the B&W photos "pop" out.

Welcome to the Scrapbbok board - and to be honest, I've done over 11 albums and not one of them is Disney related!:o I still haven't touched any of the photos from our WDW trip and Cruise from 2000!!

Hi Cheri

I just did a quick search on TwoPeas for Military - and there are quite a few there - not sure if the idea is what you want, but it might start a train of thought for you...

Look here

Hope this helps - it sounds a great idea, I would love to see some when you finish.

:D

Thank you for all the help. The layouts will really help. I have been thinking about incorporating other colors for backgrounds in the album also. These help me decide that I could use them. Thanks again. I am really looking forward to doing this album. I enjoy doing all my albums but my dad has had some health scares and I NEED to get this done, so he can enjoy it and I can get the stories behind the pictures. Thanks again. Will try to post some pages when I complete them-never have done that before. Cheri:p

I'm glad you are doing this. I have tons of military pictures from my father. Now that he is gone, we can pick him out, but don't have a clue as to where he was or who he is with. Be sure to leave room for journaling and either have him do that part or work with you so you'll know what to write. It will be a wonderful keepsake.

There are actually military albums available in appropriate colors with the service name in gold and raised insignia on the front. (Unfortunately no brand information printed anywhere inside.) My husband was career Air Force, so we've got 20+ years worth of things to scrap.

I'm thinking of starting a "scrapping for others business", specializing in military albums and including research on the different bases/posts and units - thus combining my career background in research, hobby of scrapping, and twenty+ years experience as a military spouse. What do you think?

LindaBabe-
I think K and Company makes military albums and I know Dalee makes a camoflauge album. I saw on one of the sb websites (two peas or dmarie I think) that someone had covered an album with their DH's flight suit. It was really cute. You know your idea is not a bad one at all! I met lots of scrapbookers when my DH was in the air force. I crop with a group of girls in the area, many are from the local AF base. Especially with the research and unique things you would be able to provide them. I did an Air Force album for my DH about 5 years ago, and there was very little stuff in the way of military themed scrapbooking supplies back then. There are certainly many more items available now. Let me know if this is something you decide to do. My friend and I take custom orders for our paper piecings, and I could help you come up with some really cool stuff.

Good Luck,
Candi

Did you find what you were looking for? I was at Michael's the other day and pick up a package for you on clearance. If you e-mail or private message me I will be more than happy to send it to you if you would like. It caught my I and I remembered your thread.

I will be in touch!

Cherie,
here's an on line store run by a military wife, with some stickers, paper piecings and those K & company albums/
as well as a preselected assortment of appropriate colored papers.Scrapbooks in Uniform

Lindababe - I really liked that site. It gave me some ideas to work with.

Thanks to everyone who has helped me with this "adventure". I have so many other albums to do(I volunteered to do my mother's pictures) but I can't wait to start this one. The others will have to wait. :smooth:

I have truly appreciated all the help.

Scrapbooks Etc...magazine put out periodically by Better Homes and Gardens has some military layouts in the Fall 2002 issue. I just stumbled upon the memories in uniform site, and remembered this thread. I was hopping on the message board to post about it! Good luck with your album!
