So we will be at DL with some friends and her bday is during our stay.. What would be a fun thing to do with kids and adults both?

* The Rainforest Cafe or Goofy's Kitchen for lunch or dinner. I know that at Goofy's you can call ahead and tell them it's for a birthdy, and for a few dollars you can add some balloons and ask for a small cupcake. We did this for my mom's 50th birthday at Goofy's. It was an extra $15, but it made her day.

* You can always have your friend wearing a shirt that says "ITS MY BIRTHDAY" and everyone else can wear a shirt that says "Im with the birthday girl"

* I dont know your budget, but maybe a Fantasmic dessert package

* Maybe take in a comedy show at the Golden Horseshoe and have a piece of chocolate cake from in there, and perhaps before hand let someone know it's your friends birthday, so the actors can pick her out of the crowd. We did this for my mom as well and they got her up there.

* If you want a not so Disney type of thing, my suggestion is to go to the Gardenwalk and have dinner at the Cheesecake Factory, and take her to the bowling alley after.

I like the pp suggestions! I would add BB for a meal, its just that good :)

Make sure she picks up her free Happy Birthday button at City Hall (some stores also have them, if you ask).

Goofy's Kitchen is a great place to go for a birthday!

Yes Birthday button for sure :thumbsup2 I want to add as well that for Goofy's Kitchen a fun thing that we did was when the characters went to the little dance area by the buffet and the music started to play, and brought out little tambourine drum things, even though we were all adults, we had a great time dancing with them and banging on an instrument. We got it on video. It was amazing, and the characters had a great time at the fact that adults were being big kids and having a good time too. This is a good time for kids.

Go to the Cove Bar above Ariel's Grotto and have a drink. :)
Get the bday button
Have a good meal, make sure the server knows you have a bday in your group
F! dessert seating or a tour is a GREAT idea!!

a character dinner.. :thumbsup2

Does GK do a character dinner? I thought they just did bfast & brunch......
AG does not currently have characters at their dinner, you get WoC seating instead......
A character bfast could be fun tho. :)

That's why I asked. :) We ate at GK once and had a terrible time, we haven't been back. We did bfast, I wasn't sure if they did dinner or not but I knew they did a brunch. :)

Character meals can have a HUGE variance in how good they are. And I have experienced the full range.

We have done GK twice (maybe 3 times) over the years and only once did we have a bad experience. It was our anniversary (we celebrate with Disney as often as we can since we were married at WDW many moons ago) and we got nothing.

I don't expect or need super special treatment just because it's a special occasion (nice when it happens, but never expected), but we got one character the entire time we were there to come to our table, Goofy himself. He was super cool and fun, but there were many other characters walking around and we had two young DDs at the time (one was 4, the other 7 if I remember correctly - they are now 9 & 13 so it's been awhile).

Back then they did a dance party sort of thing where all the characters would gather and they'd bring out plastic dishes/spoons/etc for the kids to bang on while they danced. My DDs are very polite and patient and as my youngest daughter's "turn" came she politely took a spoon and bowl. Some other kid ran up and snatched it from her hands AS she was taking it from the cast member. My daughter was about to burst into tears as this brat started literally banging it in her face. The cast member said/did nothing. Didn't offer her another toy or anything. My husband had to step in (something we hardly EVER do) and get a toy for her since she just wanted to leave.

We finished our food and didn't go back for several years. I started reading reviews of people saying the food was better, they refurbed the restaurant, etc so we gave it another shot. And it was decent. Not amazing, but decent and fun which is what we look for in a character meal. Our wedding "reception" was at Chef Mickey's in WDW when we got married.

The flip side is the Princess breakfasts (both at WDW & DL). Those are absolutely over-the-top amazing every time we go. Ariel's Grotto used to have some Ship Captain guy leading the old character meal (does anyone remember that, also Lilo & Stitch were there?). We did that the same trip as this bad GK trip and it was super! It wasn't super busy and my kids got the characters almost to themselves. It was fantastic. As this was our last meal at DL for that trip, it left us with good memories instead of the entire trip despite the less-than-stellar dinner at GK. :)

All that said, we'll be doing the Princess breakfast for my GFs birthday when we go in a month. She is a HUGE Princess nut (even as an adult, she's more excited than the kids) and the food is pretty decent for a character meal. Last time we went, we got Minnie instead of Belle. Kinda rare to get Minnie so that was neat, but her favorite (and mine) Princess is Belle. I'm hoping she'll be there this time.

Character meals are great for adult birthdays because you don't feel OLDER, you feel like a little giggly kid again.
