My sister is leaving on Saturday to go to Disney with her 5 year old son. This is his first trip. She has stage 4 breast cancer. I know there were some foundations out there who do things for people who are terminally ill, but she just would not apply, she just could not say she was that ill, or giving up. Therefore, she planned the whole trip on her own, without outside help.
Is there anyone out there with ideas on how to make this trip more special...who could I call? I would like to do something special for her but just do not know where to start. Thanks. - Wendy

Wendy,

There have been several situations with terminal family members discussed on the Community Board. Perhaps you should post over there. I feel someone will give you the links to the many helpful contacts you seek.

Good luck and God Bless to your sister and family.

I just noticed below is a post by Wheelsie about terminally ill patients.

Your sister is a very brave woman! If I were you I would really try and talk her into renting a scooter. This is going to make her and her sons trip a heck of a lot nicer and easier. You can rent them from an offsite vendor such as Randy's Mobility or Walker Mobility. They will deliver the scooter to your sisters resort and then pick it up. She can get on the busses and monarail with the scooter. The parks sure are big. I know my scooter is sure a blessing, and it makes the trip so much nicer. I am sorry I don't know the phone numbers of the mobility places, but I am sure SueMN has a link for the numbers.

If she left this Saturday (yesterday), I'm afraid this is too late. I was gone over Thanksgiving and didn't have internet access.
In case she is leaving next Saturday, here is contact information from the places that DIS posters have reported renting wheelchairs/ecvs from:
Care Medical:

Walker Mobility:

www.walkermobility.com

RANDY'S Mobility is in Kissimmee 407-892-4777

Colonial Medical

Hope she has a good time. (Lots of Pixie Dust sent her way).

Wendy, I too am afraid I'm too late about helping with Disney, but would like to offer my situation and a shoulder to lean on if your sister would like to talk or you even. I am 33 years old, stage IV breast cancer patient, with a 5 year old daughter. We returned from Disney late last night and this was my 5th trip since my diagnosis in March 2000. When I finally gave in and rented a scooter my trips became much better. It was almost impossible for me to walk around. I am still having weekly chemo and this was so helpful with my fatigue level. Please offer my email to your sister if I can be of any support. Nothing is more motivating than your children. We are already planning our next trip to Disney in which I fully intend to make!!
