Hi -

We are frequent visitors but are going to the parks for a long time this visit. Somehow, we have been able to schedule a trip from 12/29 - 1/18. From 1/2 - 1/14, we are staying in a 2BR, savannah view, Kidani Village room. We have a Disney cruise from 1/14 - 1/18 (a perk for adding on DVC points). I'm not quite sure yet where we will stay from 12/29 - 1/2 but I'm leaning towards Poly Concierge if I can find a room over NYE!!!! We are traveling from Alaska so the trip length in the winter is FANTASTIC. My thought is that even though we ADORE all things Disney, my DS, at 4 1/2, may be bored after the first week or so. I'm looking for thoughts on adventures/ideas/possibilites that may be slightly out of the ordinary. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

I've done several 10 day WDW rips, and never had boys that age get bored..
I know Jambo lobby has fairly regular mid-day "cultural ambasators(sp?)" with activities that should be appropriate for that age. (the one we participated in was a CM handing out paper and unwrapped crayons so kids could make relief drawings of the floor medailon animals.) and if he likes animals, then the Savannah view will make room time it's own attraction.
I think having a mid-trip EPCOT "kidcot" day (craft projects at the various countries) would be a great break from "just lines and rides"
I'd also add-in at least one monorail restaurant (to ride the monorail) and find a boat ride, since AKV is all bus transportation

Typhoon Lagoon & Blizzard beach...
Seaworld for a day...
Explore other resorts... there is a petting farm and pony rides at Ft. wilderness.
Use the community hall for games and crafts

the Chip & Dale campfire @ Ft. Wilderness is free every night

Either TL or BB will be closed, OP is traveling in Dec/Jan. It also may be a bit chilly.

I would suggest research the Orlando area. There are a lot of things to do outside of WDW. There is SeaWorld, Universal, things like GatorLand, etc. in the immediate Orlando area. You may want to try Busch Gardens in Tampa (I liked it sooo much better than Animal Kingdom).

I think the day that a 4 1/2 yo gets bored at Disney we will need to look out the window and see if there are any pigs flying around.

We stayed in at WDW from 12/29-1/12 (we stayed 12/28 at the Nick hotel) this year with a 4yo and 6yo and we thought we would try SeaWorld or even Universal...but we never left! We had more than enough to do at WDW.

THANK YOU all for the ideas! I didn't know about the Chip & Dale campfire or the petting zoo. We will definitely check those out. My little guy loves "Shamu's House" almost as much as "Mickey's House" so SeaWorld is a must for us. We haven't visited too many other off site parks but may this visit. Kidcot day also seems like a great plan.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

What is the daily thing that just got added for kids at night for an additional fee? I know its only for AKL or AKV guests? I think it lasts from 6-8?

I believe you're talking about Camp Kidani. While we were there, they offered this 3 times a day for free until the end of June and my 8 year old loved it. They started charging $30, each session I believe staring July 1 but it is so worth it. They earn a pin at the end of the session.
