Our trip is coming up and I was wondering what kinds things people have come up with to put on their signs.

My kids had these:

dd(10) "Why, oh why, oh why. . . can't I be a Jedi?"

dd(5) "Padewan Princess" with arrow pointing down at her head

ds(8) We made him yoda ears out of heavy duty construction paper and attached them to a headband with a thought bubble that said "Young Jedi am I".

With the signs, all THREE got picked for the same show. It was awesome.

When we were there last December we didn't know about making the signs. We were there early though and got seats right up in front. My boys were picked right off the bat. Then again they were jumping up and down frantically :) We were sitting next to a little boy and his mom and found out that this was his 3rd time trying to be picked. What was sad was my boys were picked (Not that I was sad they were picked, just sad they were picked b4 this little boy who had tried so many times b4), then a boy who pushed his way up in front of this little boy was picked. He had such a sad look on his face. This was his last shot because the were leaving to go home that afternoon. Well....they did one last look thru the audience and we (his mom, my husband and myself) were all pointing at him and he was giving his it his all jumping and waving his hands....He was finally picked......You could see the sigh of relief on his mom's face. It was so worth it to see his dream come true that day :) He was so excited :)
I think the signs are a great idea.......Also to be there early to get a front row seat :)

Padewan Alec's first sign read:

"Hey Darth.....your momma dresses you funny!" :rolleyes1

A lot of kids get picked who do not have signs, because they do have to choose a certain amount of kids and usually only a few have signs (at least when we were there that was the case). But, I haven't heard of anybody with a sign who didn't get picked, so it greatly increases your chances. The signs are a visible thing that the Jedi Master can see from far away and gives him something to refer to so that you know who he is speaking about, i.e. the person in the red shirt with the sign. Although it is fun to come up with different sayings on the signs, I don't think the Jedi Master can actually see what is on them because he picks the kids from a distance. But it is fun for the kids and of course people around them can see the signs too. They definitely work to make the child stand out. :)

Do you really need a sign to be picked?

Technically....no. But:

- If there's 50 kids on the rope & only 25 are being picked your chance is 50%.

- In the year that I've seen "making a sign" being discussed, no one.....as in -0- people have reported that their kid wasn't picked with a sign.

- The sign doesn't have to be much. (I took an 8 X 11 manilla folder & folded it out to "do" the sign the night before. Folded it three times & slipped it in my Cargo pants pocket.)

Here's a link with some discussion on this topic:

My kids were picked both times at both the shows we attended. I agree that signs seemed to be the best way to get picked - at both sessions, kids with signs were picked first. Wearing Star Wars apparel also seemed to help. Signs do not need to be fancy. I just had plain 8.5 X 11 white pieces of paper I wrote on with a black Sharpie and kept folded up in the stroller until showtime. I used the "Padawan Princess" sign as mentioned earlier for dd and "The Force is Strong with This One" for ds. Lots of enthusiasm is also key.

Who picks the padawans? The Jedi Master, Darth, or both? I have two ds' so I thought one could have a 'good side of the force' sign and the other could have a 'dark side of the force' sign.

When we first heard about Jedi Training Academy about a year and a half ago...I decided to make a sign to increase the chances that DS would get picked. I had not seen anyone report doing it before so I figured if I got kicked out of the show for having a sign for DS, at least we would go down trying to get him picked!!

I took a piece of butcher paper and wrote "The force is strong in this one" with an arrow pointing down. I held it up over DS while he was waving, screaming and jumping up and down. The Jedi Master loved it and pointed it out right away and called DS up immediately. We happily passed the sign to other parents in the audience to use to get their children picked. There was noone else with signs there so I do believe it increased his chances. We have since been a few times and have started to see signs so I definitely think it is worth the time to make one.

The Jedi pick the kids, Darth and Dark come out later in the show :)

I have 2 boys and I was wondering do I need 2 separate signs or can I get away with one sign saying "Pick Us"?

I'd do one sign and on one side write "PICK ME!" and on the other side write
"PICK ME TOO!" Since the Jedi Master chooses individuals, once one kid is picked, turn the sign over and hand it to the other.

Would the training academy be too intense for my 6 year old DS? He has seen Starwars... but I can't imagine him holding it together if he had to face darth maul. Any thoughts??? I have a star wars T for him to wear and can easily make a sign, I just want to make sure he isn't freaked. Darth Vader wouldn't freak him out, just Darth Maul because you can actually see his face and he looks more real.

DS got picked last Sept. ~ we did not have a sign (I don't remember seeing any) he was wearing a Lego Starwars shirt.

They typically line up the younger padewans to fight Vader and the older and braver padewans to fight Maul. If your son is too scared to fight Maul, then he can ask a CM to put him against Vader and they'll be happy to help him. :darth:
