The theme for vacation bible school is fear factor and I am trying to come up with ideas for 5th graders. Anybody got any gross thought? :stir:

Downing a whole jar of baby food spinach would be Fear Factor for my kids. :lmao:

We did this at a Cub Scout overnight a few months ago. The kids ranged in age from 6 to 11.

Our menu consisted of the following:

1st course - gummy worms (just to get them started, so that every kid would willingly participate)

2nd course - canned spinach

3rd course - pickled okra

4th course - mustard flavored anchovies

5th course - pigs feet

If your group has adventurous children in it who seem to not mind these foods, then add a 6th course where you blend all of the leftover spinach, okra, anchovies, and pigs feet into a drink and make the drink it down.

I just asked my 5th grade DS. He answered a boy having to stay by himself with a bunch of girls :rotfl:
I have a feeling in a couple of years he won't feel the same way. ;)

here are some other ideas that we didn't use at our gathering but might work well:

olive loaf or pimento loaf

head cheese (as one of the really bad ones)

sliced tongue

canned asparagus could be substituted for the canned spinach.

One thing that we didn't do at our meeting, but I'd recommend, is to be sure that the kids don't know what's coming next. Obviously, they'll know it's going to get worse and worse, but we made the mistake of dishing up the next course while the kids were eating the one before it. I think it would be better if they didn't see what was coming next.

We have a Chanpion juicer and if you put apples through it the core-peel-fiber output looks just like a pile of dog poo.

We made several of these "piles" for a Fall Party once and just told the kids it was poo and then we ate it. Oh my did some of them start gagging. It was pretty funny.

Pickled Brussel Sprouts - after my DD ate them to many ughs in the audience she asked if she could take the jar home! where did I find her.

Fried meal worms - aren't too bad.

yes, you guys are just as creative at being gross as you are at saving money!!!! :rotfl2:

Keep'em coming! :thumbsup2 :crazy2:

Ewww...just thought of one. Have you ever seen Souse (I think that is how it is spelled) it is a packaged lunch meat near the bologna, etc. My uncle used to eat it is how I've noticed it. It looks SO gross. (I'm going to be very gross here-- it looks just like vomit, but formed into a loaf and sliced-gag, now I've made myself sick.) I don't know if there is a more disguisting-looking food available. I have no idea how it tastes and I'm never going to find out.

Maybe search some halloween threads if you want gross, but not disgusting!
I'm thinking of things like "worm" sandwiches - really just hot dogs sliced into strips, boiled, and served on buns. And there's always the peeled grape eyeballs.

I personally like the FEAR part of Fear Factor where they do scary stunts, not the disgusting stuff. Any way to do some of that safely?

We did this a while ago at youth group (2-5th graders)

One course was hummus.. not that scary
Another was collard greens or okra... we are not from the South, so that was definetely different

One was sushi
One was chitlins or liver --I cant remember

There was one more and I can't remember what it was.

Lima beans(who can eat the most) and take a can of spaghettios and put it in the blender and serve cold. Blech! I would have a lined garbage can nearby when you do this activity, because we did something similar with a youth group and we had a few that did actually vomit!

Our youth at church did a FF night awhile back. Two things I rmember them mentioning were:

1) They had a wheel that you spun that had different food items on it, like lima beans, pudding, corn, etc (nothing like bugs, etc, just "real" food). The kids who wnated to participate in the stunt had to draw slips of paper w/ numbers. The number they got was the number of spins they had to take on the wheel. Whatever foods they hit on their spins was put in a blender and made into a smoothie that they had to drink. Whoever finished theirs the fastest was the winner.

2) They took clean unused disposable diapers and poured Mountain Dew in it (enough so that not all of it soaked up) and added fun size Baby Ruths to it (gross!!!). The kids had to stick their face in it and finish everything; quickest was the winner.

Cold spaghetti as worms, with tomato sauce for bloody worms... Works best if blind folded. Brains and other organ meats. Blended food to make it look like something it isn't. Meal worms (Our Girl Scout troop had a Zoo overnight and she passed them around for anyone to try-she was the only one that did) she said they weren't harmful to eat.

We had a fear factor party for my DD7 last year. So fun!
"Decipher the Doo Doo" One game we took diapers and melted candy bars inside... but instead of making them eat it we told them they had to guess what kind of candy bar the baby ate before he pooped.

"egg drop roulette" We took 12 eggs and blew the yolk out ahead of time and then told the kids that "we have 12 eggs... 11 are empty and one is filled and rotten" They each had to come up and dress in an apron (garbage bag) and googles, pick and egg, and then we cracked it over their heads. Of course all of the eggs were empty, but it was funny watching the kids worry over who was going to get the "rotten" egg!

" Earth worm transfer" We did the gummi worms in honey and then rolled them in crushed oreos to make them look like real worms in dirt. They really wiggle if you pour them onto a plate in the middle of the table. We did not make the kids eat them they just had to transfer as many as they could from 1 plate to another in 1 minute.

"dog puke diving" We made a gross concoction out of oatmeal and said it was throw up. Then we hid coins in it and the person who got the most coins out in 1 minute won that round.

"Dung jigglers" raisins in jello... whoever ate the most in 1 minute!

To make things look authentic we went out and bought a little cage of crickets and a container of "meal" worms in dirt and put those out on the table. The live insects freaked everyone out. Of course we let them loose in the backyard after the party! If I can figure out how to put a pic in I will later!! Have Fun!! :goodvibes

I didn't get the ideas to the person in charge quickly enough, but here is what they ended up doing:

... it was SO cool and the kids were SOOOOO brave!

First: We had four kids stand barefoot in a bucket and we poured ice over their feet. That only got one girl out and then we added a 1 lt. cold bottle of water for the kids to hold up straight out in front of them with one arm to get the other boy out. The last two just ended up tying because we were running out of time and we didn't want to have them get frostbite!

Second: We had four bowls with 5 gummy worms in each with dirt (crushed up oreos) sprinkled on them. They thought it was going to be no problem, but then we put REAL WORMS-about 20 per bowl on top and mixed up the gummy worms and oreos. Who ever ate all the gummy worms first and swallowed them won. It was amazing! This one kid picked up the whole fist full of gummy worms, real worms, and oreos and shoved them in his mouth! UGH!!!! Either he isn't bright, or he didn't hear that he just had to fish out the gummy worms!

Third and final: We had 2 boys and 2 girls stand barefoot in a bucket, they had to hold a cold 1 Lt. bottle of water in each hand -arms straight out to their side and THEN we poured in about 2 doz. crickets in each of the buckets! It was amazing to watch these kids stick it out even though it was really hard and they had to endure some major discomfort. The room stunk so bad by the time we were done with it all. OH and I forgot to mention that before any of this happen the teachers had told me that they would eat anything that I brought for them to be an example to the kids. Well I thought about canned spam, oysters, sardines, but ended up doing HOT and SPICY VIENNA SAUGSAGES!!!!! Have you ever heard of such??? They each had to each a whole can and then top it off with one POLISH dill pickle (We were also studying about Poland with our Trading Places theme). This one woman ate it all, and polished off the pickle! It was hilarious and the kids got a kick out of it!

Thanks for all your great ideas. I'm printing off this thread for future use. I'm thinking.....next year.....12 year old birthday party. ;)
