Ideas for departure day

My departure flight leaves around 2pm which means with magic express I will need to check out by 11:00am. Should I try to plan to do something that morning or just have breakfast and hang out at the hotel? I am staying at AS Music. Would I have time to get to DTD for some shopping and back? Any suggestions? Thanks! :confused3 :cheer2: princess:

I would plan on hanging out at the hotel. Remember with all the extra security you will need to be at the airport earlier than in the past. I would be worried about getting back to the resort on time and missing my flight

Agreed. Stay at the ASMusic. You really won't have the time to go to DTD.

To give you an idea here's how our check out day went.

We left Pop on 11/1 and had a 5 pm flight back to NY. Our DME pick up time was 2:45 (had to be at the lobby area by 2:30). We did most of our packing that morning (last few nights we got back after midnight) and then had the luggage area hold it until around 2:15. We had lunch, then we (me, DH & DS4) spent the rest of the time in the arcade. There was no time for us to be off property and be back in time for our DME pick up. As it was, we just made it to our SW gate with about 15 minutes to spare before boarding the plane for home.

I'd do breakfast and just relax til it was time to leave. I never do anything the morning I leave. I hate feeling rushed. I normally get up, pack, eat and just look around and take it all in. Then if you're like me, you'll be sad because it's time to go already.

We are doing a late breakfast at Ohana on our way out (but we are driving so we are on our own time). One last little bit of magic before we leave.

Another reason why the deluxe hotels have so much more to offer as opposed to value.

Our last trip, DME pick up from WL was 1:30. So we had breakfast early, then hit the pool from 10:00am to about 12:30, my wife went back to the room at 11:00am to pack and hold off the mouse keepers if they would have come to clean the room.

In 2 weeks our pick up time is at 4:30 from the GF. I think we will drop our bags at the bell service and head over to the park.

Well, we always plan something on the day we leave. I hate to waste a whole day when we usually fly out in the evening. Last year we did a half day at AK. In January we're going to do the Family Magic Tour. We did the check out thing around 8:30 am and got our boarding passes at ASMo. All we had to do when we returned to the hotel was pick up our luggage and hop on the bus. It worked out great for us and the kids even slept on the plane. You could probably do an early check out and go do some quick shopping...you could always catch a cab back if you're worried about timing. Just a thought.

Thank you all! This is a surprise trip for DD (8) so I didn't want her to be disappointed in the last day. The arcade and/or pool sound like a good way to spend the last few hours. The first 6 days are so action filled we will not even have time to spend at AS Music besides sleeping, so this is a great option. :cool1: Thanks again!

Use your last day to take pictures of the resort.....or maybe make a ressie at Chef Mickey's for breakfast.

You're very welcome :)

We surprised our DS4 too, and had 5 day base park tickets instead of 6 (one day was set aside for SeaWorld). The last three days were very hectic for us (really late nights and very early mornings) and didn't leave us anytime for packing until check out morning. It felt like we were in overdrive to try and squeeze everything in prior to coming home. Next time, however, we're putting in a rest day so I can do some laundry and so that we can just kick back and relax at the resort.

We always book late flights so we can get some extra time in the parks or DTD.

It has nothing to do with what resort you stay there is something to do in all of them or close if youhave a later flight.

2 hours difference is a big one ( 11:00 or 1:00) as most things are not in full swing until after 9:00 . Check what park has an EMH and see if you can get in at 8:00 that would give you 2 hours then an hour to get back to your resort.

We generally go to FW for breakfast on our last day if we aren't leaving 'til afternoon. Nice time to relax and wander around the Pioneer Hall area. After that back to hotel (generally POR) and wait for departure time...

We had a 2:30 flight last week, packed mostly the night before, threw the leftover items in an extra bag, and headed to a 8:30 am. character breakfast at our resort. Character turn-over was good and quick, so we headed off to DTD, left at 12:30 and had plenty of wait time for our 2:30 flight.

The kicker is that we used a towncar, DH stayed with the luggage, and then they picked us up on the way to the airport.

If I had to return to my resort, we probably wouldn't have done DTD on such a tight schedule. We would have hit the pools instead.

Have fun on your trip!

I don't think the resort you are staying at affects DME very much! :rotfl:

You are leaving later because your flight time is later. Check out time at all WDW resorts is officially 11am.

To the OP, you might have time for a quick swim if you're early morning people, but otherwise, I'd take my time and enjoy a nice breakfast. Use your last night/last full day to the fullest!

Indeed, the one time I stayed at ASMu using DME, the bus driver dropped us off BEFORE the guests staying at AKL. Both times I used it (at different categories of resort) the request was still three hours before your flight time. When I asked about it at AKL, I was also told the same thing, which is why we decided against using it there, since our flight was early in the morning.
