Hi,
We are from the UK and will be visiting DL for six nights in July. This is our second visit as we were there in 2014. We're staying at the Disneyland Hotel and last visit we went on an organised tour to LA which visited Hollywood Boulevard, Beverley Hills, the celebs homes and Santa Monica.

This time we'd like to have a wander along Hollywood Boulevard - we won't have a car. Is it better to book an organised tour or is there another way of doing this?

Thanks

Sounds like you already know what you want to do. Thought, though, I'd throw in what we've doing with a day and 1/2 in Hollywood before heading to Anaheim for some Disneyland fun just in case you are interested in other ideas of things to do. We arrive at LAX around 1 p.m. and on our own are going to hit a tour of the Chinese Theatre, go to the Madam Tussaud wax museum right near there, and go see the stars (Walk of Fame) -- heard that really only takes about 20 minutes. Then the next day we are doing the Warner Brother's studio tour, hitting the Griffith Observatory which I hear has fabulous views of the Hollywood sign and LA, and then hitting the Santa Monica Pier before doing an evening drive -- hopefully after rush hour to Anaheim.

Thanks,

That sounds perfect for us. What would be the best way to get from the Disneyland Hotel to the Red Line Tour office?
Maybe not "the best":
ART from Disney to Amtrak http://rideart.org/
Amtrak to Union Station https://www.amtrak.com/home
Subway (Red Line) from Union Station to Hollywood/Highland https://www.metro.net/riding/maps/
This http://www.disunplugged.com/2012/04/16/no-car-exploring-travel-between-disneyland-and-hollywooduniversal-studios/ is a little old but still valid.
BTW: I'm a Hollywood local and do the ART/Amtrak/Red Line trip often.

There is Prime Time Shuttle. They will take you from your hotel to Union Station. I haven't looked but they may even take you from your hotel to the Roosevelt Hotel on Hollywood Blvd. Worth a look...

There is another way which has less interchanges. You can get the bus route 460 direct to Downtown LA / Union Station and then the Red Line Metro to Hollywood and Highland.

You should consider a 1 day car rental from the DLR area. Driving will be 60-90 minutes from DLH to Hollywood. Any combination of public transportation will be 2.5-3 hours. That's 5 hours just for the round trip portion to and from the DLR plus time traveling between stops if you want to do more than just Hollywood Blvd. Anaheim Tour Company offers private tours. You could try contact them with your plans and see what they offer.
