Ideas for costumes for character dinners...

I know I have seen this discussed on the board somewhere before we made reservations but can't seem to find it now.

Do you let your little girls dress up for the character dinners? Would you say the larger majority does OR does not dress up? (I don't want her to feel left out if she is not dressed up)

Also, we will be there in August so it is going to be really hot and what do you do with the costume if they change clothes? Those things are so bulky I don't think it is going to fit in the bag we will be taking.

She loves tinker bell is TB at any of the character dining?

I've noticed many girls @ Akershus, CRT, and 1900 Park Fare dressed in costume..... I let my DD's do it once but that's because we were on our way to MNSSHP after dinner

The dresses get mighty itchy and uncomfortable esp. in August!

You could always stuff the dress in a backpack to carry around or stow it in a locker?

I no longer let my girls wear the costumes and they're ok with it... but if your DD wants to, by all means let her

Oh, and Tink is not at any character dining nor can you "meet" her anywhere.... you can see her fly through the sky before Wishes, but that's about it...

A lot do wear costumes, but a lot don't either. If she loves dressing up, she will want one once she sees other girls wearing it. August will be too hot for most of the long dress costumes, check out the disboutiquers thread. A lot of us make outfits for others. Someone posted on there some summer princess outfits and there are a lot of other custom outfits for the princesses that aren't the traditional gown, but awesome anyway. We always had a stroller to stuff the dress into, but you could always get a locker or just plan to bring it back to the room if you take an afternoon rest. We always planned out meals as late breakfasts/early lunch or as a supper, so we never had a long time to haul it around. Unfortunately Tink is not at any of the meals. Do you have any booked already?

Yes we have.... chef mickey, Akershus,crystal palace,1900 fare lane. We will be at crystal palace on her birthday so thinking about letting her do at least that one.

I know she will want to wear tinker bell. Is there one of these places that TB would be best to be worn at even though she will not actually be there?

We did CRT and Lilo and Stitch breakfast at Polynesian. EVERY girl was dressed up at CRT, not really anyone but dd at polynesian. My dd did wear costumes the entire time we were in Disney this past April/May. She LOVED the attention she got from dressing up!!! We bought her dresses at the Disney Store ahead of time. They were cheaper and less scratchy. She was very comfy in them, had no problems going on any rides, and wanted to wear them, so we let her. I say if they want to wear costumes, then let them. What's the harm? Oh, and it makes for some REALLY cute pictures!!!!!

See my siggy, but my dd wore her Tink dress several times while there. It probably would be the best dress for Aug. Light, not itchy, and super cute. My dd's tink outfit is from the disney store. I believe it is still on disneyshopping.com.

Oh, and a little FYI... we were also there during my dd's b-day. She had a lot of extra "magical" things happen to her when she was all dressed up and wearing her b-day button. Just something to consider.

WHEW, I am glad to hear that not all the girls will be dressed up. I did buy the girls Cinderella T-shirts to wear when we eat lunch with her but did not want to buy costumes.

DD wants to wear her costumes more as she gets older....but when she was smaller I would just get her a regular dress that either had a princess on it or was princessy. Those costumes get so hot!

We are going to 1900 Park Fare this Aug. My DD has a very pretty purple ballet dress from her recital that she is going to wear. (YEA! No big glittery dress to pack!)

If you don't have a dress similar, try a resale shop. Kid to Kid (resale shop) here has quite a few of them very cheap.

We are planning on getting a couple costumes for my DD2 when for our November trip. I'm just going to put it on her in the morning and bring a change of clothes. I'll just squish up the dress and throw it in the backpack, stroller, or a locker.
