We'll be hooking up the dvd player so they could watch 2 movies but really that can get boring as well. Other than electronic stuff like games, etc can anyone think of some creative things to keep the kiddies busy for several hours?

there is a fun little car games you can play for example, A-Z every has to find something that starts with each letter and the first person to get to Z wins. You can use anything signs, type of cars, etc...

my son loves to draw. theres this cute thing he got for his bday I saw them at walmart for like 5 or 10dollers. it un zips and has a white board in side it. he has the markers for it and an erase thingy. he uses it all the time at home next time on the bus were taking it much better then all the papaer he used

I'm a big fan of the aquadoodle. http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q=aquadoodle+travel&um=1&ie=UTF-8
Not exactly sure what the material is but it comes with a fillable small "marker" that you fill with water and it colors on the surface and in a few minutes disapears so you can draw again and again. My son has the travel one, the large mat and the one with the red edges that's perfect for the car.
That's one idea :)

Last June I made a "Disney Car Games" packet......it had word searches [with Disney themes], coloring pages, word scrambles, etc. It was DF and I on the trip and while I did it for fun it did come in handy when we got caught in traffic.

The other thing we love to play on our Disney road trips is "Disney 20 questions" Pick a Disney character and have the people around you guess which one......you ask questions such as male/female?, Hero, villain, sidekick?, Animal or human? etc........it's really fun!

I am not sure the ages of your children but my 4 year old LOVES her Leappad she got for Christmas. We just took a 400 mile trip (one way) to my sister's for Christmas and she played that just about the entire trip both ways. Leapfrog is having an awesome sale on the books, lots of Disney ones! We never even once turned on the DVD player she likes it that well.

Right now she loves to play name all the characters. That takes a while and is something fun to get them excited too!

My dd 7 likes:
-20 questions, disney themed
-I spy
-color wonder markers, (she has a lap desk for the car) she can color but it only goes on the special paper, not her or the car
-stickers
-DVD player
-radio disney

I saw at the dollar store last week car bingo, so I bought that, haven't tried it yet.
I try to get some new little stuff, stickers or something to keep her entertained.

I stocked up on some inexpensive toys, games, and treats from the dollar store, gift-wrapped them and let the kids open one every couple hours or so as long as they were behaving nicely (aka NOT fighting with each other!;) )
This really made our trip pleasant! They had things like notebooks and pens with Disney Stickers to create their own travel journal. I also found some travel game packs that the kids enjoyed, coloring books, polly pockets etc. I also bring travel trays to sit on their laps, so no small items get lost, and they have a nice writing surface.

We also brought the DVD player, but it broke during the trip, so I was doubly glad we had the other diversions!

We did several *very* long road trips this year....some better than others, so I got very practiced at works for my kids!!:)

Have a wonderful DL trip!!

When I was younger my mom did the same thing for us, and it made our car trips go by SO much easier. Especially since I was really that kid that got bored after 5 minutes.

We always bring a bunch of books for DS(4) and a magnadoodle-type thing. As we get closer to the LA area we pop in a CD with theme park music and DS gets very excited to know we're almost there. We are bringing the DVD player this year, but he doesn't know. We're going to try to get by without.

My younger dd tends to get car sick so we try to think of things that involve keeping her head up.

When our girls were younger, dh make bingo cards with clip art. He would put in pictures of common things you would see while driving and a couple of more difficult ones. As they got older, he replaced some of the pictures with words.

We play the alphabet game where you have to find words on signs that starting with A and going to Z. The letter you are looking for has to start the word (with the exception of X) and 2 people can't use the same word on the same sign. If your trip includes roads with out many signs than we allow 18 wheelers to be included. We usually team up with older dd and dh on one team and younger dd and I on the other team.

Other games my girls lover are I spy, mad libs and continue the story.

We play Blue Tarp in the rural areas. You get 1 point for each blue tarp you see, 10 points if it's on a roof!:lmao:

A car on blocks with no tires & wheels is worth 20 points and a wood cutout of old lady bending over is 50 points. Makes the time go by much faster when traveling through those sparsley populated areas where there's not usually much to look at.:rotfl:

I don't know how old your dks are, but my 5 year old ds played his leapster a good portion of the drive. Also both he and his sisters had those travel sized magnetic drawing toys. The dvd player was a lifesaver too.

Our kids are 5, 3, and 1. We knew it was going to be a miserable drive for them (we live 14 hours away) so we left at 10pm the night before. Dh and I took turns driving while they slept. They were only awake for the last 4-5 hours of the drive. It made it much easier on us all!

We play a game that we call "I'm going to Disneyland..." and you just name off what you want to see or do. My kids really liked that. Also I brought the Vacation planning DVD and my kids loved that. Maybe you could get a guide book to let them look at.

Make sure you check the Dollar Spot at Target too. I was able to get Cars and Princess things, I also got some cool pens and paper too.

On our last drive from Missouri to WDW (about 19 hours), I got a big bag of wooden clothes pins. :laundy: I wrote the names of towns, rivers, states, and attractions that we would pass. I numbered them in order from our starting point to the final...our hotel. I had a piece of neon green yarn tied to the clothes hooks in the car, with this stretched across the car we clipped the pins in order from one side to the other. The kids had a great time keeping of where we were on their very own. They would remove the pins as we passed each location, and if they missed some and later got to take a BUNCH down they were thrilled to see how much closer we were! I wouldn't recommend this for the really young, my kids were 5, 8, and 11 at the time. On the way home reverse the pins and let them do it again.:laundy:

Do you get any points for those signs on wheels with all the colored light bulbs around the edge?
