My family will be at Disney in October during my son's birthday. He is turning 5. He really likes Star Wars and I was thinking it would be fun to take him to DHS to see the Jedi Academy and Star Tours.

Is there any special perks he can get for his birthday while at Disney?

Does DHS have a place to meet Star Wars characters?

Any other suggestions or ideas to help celebrate his bday would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Be sure to get him a birthday button to wear during your trip. If you are staying on-site, you can get it when you check in; if you are staying off-site, you can get it at any park's Guest Relations office. When he wears it, a lot of Cast Members will tell him happy birthday and occasionally, he might get a little pixie dust (birthday cupcake at lunch, "magical moment" type experience). Unfortunately, there aren't any official meet-&-greets with SW characters. The only time I've seen them is at SWW in May/June, or if your child is scheduled for a Jedi Training slot and the show gets rained out (that happened to us). In that event, the kids who were scheduled get to have their picture made with Darth Vader and the Stormtroopers.

If you have a special meal planned for his birthday, you can get either a pre-made "standard" cake at most table-service restaurants, or if you are willing to go all out, you can order a specialty cake. There's a thread on the Restaurants Board called "Cake Chatter" and it has all the details. No SW characters are available, though, because of copyright issues.

Hope this helps! Hope he has a wonderful, magical birthday! Five is such a great age!

DS will turn 4 on our upcoming trip and he is newly obsessed with Star Wars. We'll let him make a custom light saber at the Studios or Downtown Disney for one of his presents, and Tattooine Traders (the Star Tours gift shop) has so much to choose from. As for our family, we are going to MK for the day and letting him choose his top few rides to ride first thing. I'm also decorating the living/dining room of our timeshare after he goes to bed and will probably do a doughnut "cake" or make pancakes for breakfast so we can get to rope drop (he loves the opening show). We are going to Kona for dinner that night after our afternoon break, mostly because I'm pretty sure he'll like the Kona Kone (waffle cone sundae surrounded by cotton candy) more than he'll like cake.

Make sure you get him a birthday button to wear. Some people do just their kid's birthday, and some have them wear it the whole trip. You see lots of buttons in the parks now, and CM's may or may not do anything special, depending on their mood. Make your own birthday fun, and anything you get from Disney will be extra-special. I've heard T-Rex and Rainforest Cafe are great restaurants for little boys, those might be worth a look for a birthday dinner. Other people highly recommend the Pirates & Pals fireworks cruise. It is pricey, so we are doing a Halloween party instead. He has been begging to go trick-or-treating at MK since he saw the planning DVD, and it seemed like a better use of our time and money. Hope your little one has a great birthday. :)
