OK, so here goes...I am so NOT good at scrapbooking but I really really like trying. Anyway ds got a wish from Make-A-Wish and we're going to Disney World. The last time I took the kids (he was 1 & sis was 9) wasn't anywhere near what I planned (we lost time due to medical issues..see his pre-trip report for more details).
Anyway I really want to make a nice memory book with all kinds of pics and cool pages. I have no idea where to start! I'm a huge Mickey & Tink fan, DD is all about Jasmine & Tink, but Boo (DS) doesn't really have a favorite atleast not that I can tell.
I want to do this so it will last but I have very minimal supplies and an even smaller budget so I need creative ideas.
Can anybody help out a beggin' momma? Pretty pretty please!

Hi - we're a "quirky" family too! And new to scrapping!

Here's a few tips I can think of:

Save EVERYTHING you can from your trip to add to your books when you get home - tickets, receipts, printed napkins, Key to the World cards, etc. - IMHO, when you include things like this scattered among your photos in your book, it is MUCH more interesting - and the price (free!) is right. This saves money, as you won't need to spend money on special scrapbooking stickers from the craft store. Even on sale, these can be pricey!

Download coloring pages for your kids online - google Disney coloring pages - and print them out. Have the kids color 'em, save these (date them!) and use these in the scrapbooks too. It would look charming...

While in Orlando, try to get a PhotoPass - maybe it is included for the MAW families? It gives you many photos that include everyone in your party. Wait to buy special (read: expensive) scrapping stuff until you know how many photos you've got for the book - and which ones you really want to include and highlight.

Got a Home Depot nearby? Their paint department has colorful free Mickey head paint chips that (if repurposed :rolleyes1) would make cute/free accents among your pages. You ARE planning to repaint a room, right??? And are simply totally undecided about which of the Disney paint colors to use!!! RIGHT???!!!!

Check other DIS threads out for great autograph book/page/tag ideas. These look smashing when used in a scrapbook near the photos of you with that character. And they are free or only pennies to make up!

Good luck - and happy trip planning!

I would not buy the scrapbooking kits at the world, no matter HOW tempting. They're expensive to start with, and you wind up covering up the paper anyway, with the photos. You'd be surprised how *Disney* pages look on Black paper with Mickey red and yellow, goofy orange and green, Donald red white and blue accents.

If you'll pm me your snail mail addy - I'll send you some Mickey punchies and such.

When is your trip?

Have you gone over to the "Make a wish thread"?

Thanks for all the great ideas! We don't live close to a home depot but I go by one when we go to therapy so I can stop then 'cause you know I "need to repaint" someone's bedroom ;)

Oh, and I have the pre-trip report done and just did a Wish Thread intro today. This is getting so exciting! I'm "patiently" waiting for dates and details but it's only been a week since the volunteers were here.
I can't wait to see him doing all the awesome things there!!! I'm taking the camera and the camcorder plus I would like to get the photopass and take tons of family pics (since I'm never in them 'cause I work the camera ;) ).

I don't know how you feel about digital scrapping or even hybrid, but there is the cutest hybrid autograph book over at ScrapMatters. http://www.scrapmatters.com/shop/product.php?productid=2157&cat=103&page=1 It's basically all done - all you need to do is print, trip, get autographs, and once home add the photos.

We just got back from Disneyland and the characters really loved signing it. Everyone thought I'd spent so much time, effort (and money) putting it together. Little did they know I let someone else do all that work for me. :rolleyes1 And once I attached the photos it's going to be a priceless memory for my family to flip through.

sent you a pm!

That is seriously awesome! Perfect for someone like me who is "creatively challenged" with things like this. :thumbsup2

OK, I've decided to do 2 8x8 autograph books so each child has one. A more boy/neutral one (not sure which character yet) for ds and a Jasmine or Tink one for dd.
I also decided on a 12x12 album with a theme along the lines of "Mickey & Friends made my wish come true!". I've also decided to get the photopass cd and take tons of pictures.
Now I need ideas for the autograph books..do I do simple pages for the different characters or just tags or something else?
I'll worry about the album after we get back since most of that will depend on the pictures we get but I really want a cute set of autograph books so I need ideas everybody! :goodvibes

How does everyone take the wait?!? It's making me crazy, I'm soooo excited! :woohoo:

We're going from Nov 2-Nov 8. Now that I know how long to we have I can start getting settled and ready. I can't wait to get started on the autograh books and thank you's for the cm's and others. I need to make a list of all the things like that I want to take..hahaha!:goodvibes

Start that list!!!
I'll have your package out in the mail next Friday... I have 6 paper piecings done already!!! I've been doing 3 a day...

My package to you goes out tomorrow - I got a little 'punchy", lol.

PS for autographs, couldn't you use that digital one that RRBB posted the link to? - once you buy the pages, you can print them as many times as you like, and put them between covers of your own making, or in a little binder.

It's lookin' like I'm going to use the digital one that RRBB linked to but I'm still debating. (I can be quite fussy about stuff sometimes. ;) ) I do like them a lot and being able to just print it out and creatively bind it is sounding really nice plus it's not expensive so I'll have more to spend on other things.

I got an awesome box of goodies today....THANK YOU!! This is a wonderful start to documenting our special trip. :woohoo:

You should have another package in the mail by end of week..so after the holiday be on the look out!!!!

Glad your first package has arrived!!!

So far I've got a wonderful handmade book & cute little punchies (thank you LindaBabe!) and I bought a digital scrap kit from ScrapMatters (that place could become VERY addictive if I get a chance to really look around :lmao: ). Since I'm planning on getting the PhotoPass CD I know I'm gonna end up with a couple of books and the autograph books. Yep I take a lot of pictures! Last time we bought a new photo printer because it was cheaper than printing off the good shots at WalMart or CVS.
When we get back I'm getting the Creative Memories StoryBook software 'cause I'm still no good at GIMP or PaintNet and I can't afford PhotoShop. Another plus to the CM software is that DD's language teacher's wife is the consultant so I've got lots of access to help and I feel better helping out another local mom.
Am I missing anything?
I found the CM thread so I'm going there to read, read, read...
