ideas for 40th birthday, now unable to go to Orlando without kids so what to do!!!

DH and I were planning our first holiday without the children (1st time on our own for 13 years) to Orlando but now since DH is redundant and new job that was offered at Heathrow, has been withdrawn due to financial constrainst, we feel that as we are going to Orlando as a family next August we could not really afford to go on our own as well until a new job is well and truly secured!!!

But we would still like to do something to celebrate my 40th (spent his at WDW) but what to do, a weekend or a few days away in this country would be fine but where - I would be grateful if anyone has any suggestions. Many thanks.

OK a few thoughts based on where you live (ie I guess it should be relatively easy to get the to the below places):

A trip to Paris on Eurostar?
Brussels?
Disneyland Paris?

What else are you into? Do you like sightseeing, lovely meals, walking etc etc?? Could you do a lovely hotel away combined with a pampering / Red Letter Day?

I agree your 40th birthday combined with a weekend without the kids is a very special (and rare!) occasion and you should be able to find something memorable and lovely to do instead of WDW. I'm sorry about his job but hopefully something will turn up very soon

Have a look at the Art Deco hotel Burgh Island in Devon. www.burghisland.com it's very special. Otherwise what about the St David's Hotel in Cardiff which has THE most amazing spa. www.thestdavidshotel.com
This one is ultra modern, with a superb restaurant. Burgh Island is simply divine, so elegent etc I thoroughly recommend both.
