Hi everyone, I want to take a short trip to WDW with DH from 7/28-8/2 but he is not wanting to go to the parks...soooo I have heard that some people just visit the various resorts, spending several hours at different locations, which helps to give a feel for the future and a different feel to the vacation entirely...It's a short trip with just the two of us - Kids staying home...yippee.

So does anyone have any suggestions for unique or different ideas for this sort of thing...

I've been told in several threads, go to the Boardwalk. I personally haven't been there yet, but plan on going while I'm there next week.

Saratoga Springs is beautiful. Stayed there for part of my trip last year. They have one of the Spas there. Speaking of which, you could always check those out as well.

Enjoy!

One of my favorite thing to break up the days between parks is to go resort hopping. The monorail resorts are all beautiful and they have lots of places to relax, shop, or dine. The Wilderness Lodge is also beautiful, and I think they even offer tours of the resort.

The Yacht/ Beach clubs and the Boardwalk both offer a great afternoon rest from HS or EPCOT. The Boardwalk is also a great spot for a night out with Jelly Rolls, Atlantic Dance Hall, and ESPN Club.

A great evening visit would be the Port Orleans resorts. You can eat at Boatwrights, take a carriage ride, get some entertainment from the jazz band at Scat Cat's or Yeehaw Bob at River Roost, and then take the boat over to DTD for some more late-night fun.

Hope you can convince your hubs to go!

Last summer I booked at Animal Kingdom lodge for 7 nights with my friend, my son and his friend. . .(my son was 16 at the time). While my son and his friend enjoyed park hopping, my friend and I spent time having resort days, transportation days, etc. We spent very little time at the parks and fully utilized the facilities at AKL. It was the most relaxing vacation ever.BNo

Here are some suggestions for a "non-park" Disney themed vacation.

1. Book at AKL, WL, BW or CL for an entirely adult vacation. . .

2. Do a Monorail bar crawl starting at Contemporary. Next would be the Poly and then the Grand Floridian.
3. Have a Transportation day. . .bus, monorail and boat to different resort locations. . .its fun. Plan lunch or dinner around your final stop.
4. At AKL, tour the animal trails and view some animals, go to Boma for lunch or dinner at any of the three available restaurants and then hit up Victoria Falls lounge for some cocktails. Just enjoy doing adult things.

5. At the Boardwalk. . .go to ESPN and watch a sports game, eat dinner at Big River Grill and Brewery and enjoy a night of entertainment at Jellyrolls or Atlantic Dance Hall.

6. Watch Fireworks from the dining room at California Grill at the Contemporary. . .great window seating and a great variety of food to choose from.

7. Watch fireworks from the beach at the Poly. Always a treat.

8. Spend a day exploring (dare I mention a park) the countries of Epcot at World Showcase. . .Tequila bar in Mexico, great desserts in France. . .awesome steak in Canada. . .you can find something for everyone here. . .

Have a great adult trip. . .enjoy yourselves.

I really like Disney and I really like to travel to real places .Disney is not real and sometimes in this too real world that is what we seek. I go to WDW for the fantasy. Here are some resorts where I have visited-The Mike Ditka Resorts,Lake Buena Vista Resort Village,Radisson Resort Orlando. But one I enjoyed was Mike Ditka Resorts.I booked the smallest and cheapest room and it was more like an extended stay suite. The pool and Hot tub were great and were accented nicely by the newly completed tiki bar. Great frozen drinks, beverages offered.
