Idea for Podcast or is there a past Podcast I've missed on "Orlando Food"

I can't think of an Orlando specific food but there are a few food that are more FL than other places:

Rock Shrimp
Stone Crab Claws
Gator

and of course Key Lime Pie and OJ

No doubt. I've been all over Florida and I've never figured out what the signature dish in Orlando happened to be. Where I live it's Bourbon.

Yeah....we sure'nuff dont get out much.

We think wrinkled cranberries is high falutin.

Hey Kevin, just listened to the Ghirardelli review and John mentioned an Ice Cream shop you guys liked that was local. The name was never mentioned. Any chance on illumination of the place. Being as I run our "Buy Local" community in my area I prefer to use local Mom and Pop shops.

hey just wanted to let you know that we have been to 4rivers and it was GREAT! We have good BBQ places here in NYC and i would say its comparable to them. And i don't think it was pricey at all....there were 5 people in our group and the total bill with sodas/ice teas was $82....and there was a LOT of food on our table!

Awesome. I have left it on the must do.

I can't remember if I posted it in here or not, but I'm torn on 4Rivers. It's absolutely the best BBQ in Orlando and it is very good BBQ in general, but having lived in Oklahoma recently for 2 years and visited Texas many times, it is way overpriced in my opinion. I'm more than happy to go back anytime, but I wouldn't wait in line outside in the summer ever again like the first time I went just because I wanted to try it.

BBQ is like Pizza, very subjective. I think for me, I want to try it because I've heard as you say "It's absolutely the best BBQ in Orlando." Probably the reason it's more costly than what you think it deserves. If you are waiting in a line, no reason for them to lower the price.

Ya, don't get me wrong. I definitely recommend you try it. Just want to make sure you're in the right state of mind. I'll be goin again soon, just it won't be on a busy Saturday. Same as I don't plan on riding Tower of Terror in July, I wait until September.

I know it's not local as it's on Universal's property, (But as it's not WDW it maybe counts a bit...) but I can't remember anyone ever mentioning Emeril's Tchoup Chop. I ate here about five years ago and it was amazing. We had a group of six adults ranged in ages from 35-65 and everyone loved it. I have always wanted to go back.

We had starters to desert and I can't think of a single dish people weren't really pleased with. The desert especially was amazing. Which for me is a big deal as a lot of restaurants really fall down here...

I am really excited to try some of these. Great thread! :goodvibes

We are moving to the area in almost exactly a year and I am really excited to try some of these. Great thread! :goodvibes

I understand with most of Emeril's locations being great. It's odd but, the guy who trained Emeril is a man named Chef Sebastian "Buster" Ambrosia has/had (daughter now runs it) in my town. All their stuff is great as are the Emeril Lagasse restaurants. If you are ever at a Lagasse restuarant and he's serving Oysters Ambrosia..... BUY THEM!

Having spent many years in Winter Park BM (before the mouse----how old is that!) I love hearing of local favorites. Unfortunately, I think the restaurant business is especially difficult to make work. I love the little local finds.....keep them coming!

Restaurants are hard to run, yes. If you have good execution and idea..... not as hard. It's my favorite thing about travel. Finding a place that nowhere else has to offer. I was in your home city (according to under your avatar) and The Bristol over by Wicker Park is Fantastic.

Yes, Bristol is good. I like that they buy their supplies locally -----as local as you can get when there isn't a farm within maybe 100 miles!
I'm glad you liked it. Chicago does have a lot of great local restaurants.

A friend of mine owns The Belmont Barber Shop up there and keeps us well versed on the places to eat up in Chicago.

Just had Tijuana Flats in Doctor Phillips. Whoa! It surpassed my expectations. For the style of service it was great. Not to mention the Mahi Mahi fish tacos were excellent. Love the hot sauce bar.

Thanks Kevin!
